“Happy space in Goa”
Reviewed March 27, 2012

Want to find a happy space to be in, walk down to Fortune Regina.
The staff are friendly, and Chef Hassan can turn out some cool kababs.
If in Goa longer, check out the sea food special evening. There is a small bazaar with locals lined up selling their wares.

It is a well run 4 star Hotel. Food was pretty good. Service at the pool bar was lethargic. The purpose of the trip i.e. celebrating my brother's 40th birthday was well and truly met.

Room Tip: choose the new wing

Stayed at the Fortune Select Regina for 3 nights. Hotel is little off the main road but easy to find. Short walk to Candolim beach across the street or you can take the hotel shuttle. Hotel is very well kept and pool and area was great. Rooms were modern. Power went off a few times but was quick to come back on. Included breakfast buffet in the morning was excellent, very large selection. Only negative about this hotel is the service was really bad. For the price of this hotel, this was a huge let down. Staff consists of a bunch of kids, and had to call several times for things to get taken care of. Also, the hotel was pre-paid on Orbitz, and upon check out they wanted to charge me for the full price of the room. Luckily I had print out from Orbitz showing I pre-paid and they agreed, but that should have been in their system.

Stayed here for 2 weeks on a package tour with husband -our third visit to Goa - our first visit to north Goa-previously staying at Holiday Inn and Alila Diwa.

This isn't as good as HI and AD.

It's clean and ok - majority of guests seem to be domestic travelling in business groups in week and large families/groups with LOTS of children at weekends.

Good points -

Cleanliness - seemed good - used laundry service a couple of times - good value and service.

Overall impressions - good.

Breakfast menu -varied buffet - gets samey after a few days - but that's not their fault.

Pool -looks nice from a far.

Poor points -

Hotel location meant we had to drag/carry cases to main road for transfers.
Be aware that our coach transfer from airport said the road is too narrow to drive down - so when travelling with cosmos -they stop on the main street - unload luggage and point you down the road (hotel is about 100 yards off main road - my husband dragged our cases to hotel). Comical really.
Note to Hotel .....buy a tuk tuk//van and be waiting for guests to arrive so you can move cases.......when guests check out .....offer to arrange for cases to go to main road.

Check in time
This is at 2pm apparently - after arriving at 10.30 and being asked to take a seat whilst our "room was being got ready" after waiting 2 hours ......so asking the reception what was happening - we were told then.
Note to hotel....... Inform your guests on arrival what time check in is ...this gives the guest the choice to sit and wait or perhaps go off and explore/change clothes a little.

Room description
Now this was partly my fault at the time of booking I paid extra for an upgrade to a "suite" - and I did receive a letter from cosmos prior to departure informing me the rooms had been renamed - but assured that the "suite" I had booked was now called a "luxury room"-but was assured I would get the room I had booked .......foolishly when booking I looked at the photos of the suites ......cos that's what I booked..... Hope that makes sense? I was absolutely shattered when I was taken to a ground floor pool facing "above average" travel lodge type room.....not a four poster bedded large type suite .....I could have cried!!!!

Rooms on ground floor
Balconys are surrounded with plants -pool view is for jappenese snippers-and ours smelt a little bit damp.

Rooms on first floor.
Our cosmos rep helped us to be moved from ground floor.....went to first floor room 3105 ......overlooking pool showers/some sort of electic sub station.
(at this point I just gave in and decided to "just get on with it" -because they were never going to meet my expectations).
No wifi in this room.

Wifi
You pay for this each week - but we couldn't get it in the room - so you often see guests using wifi at breakfast ....you need to be near reception area.

Breakfast service
Now this became a source of amusement to us ........ There is ONE waiter wondering around serving tea/coffee from a pot on his tray. You may be asked by two or three waiters .......if you would like a tea/coffee but gettin the "prize"of the tea/coffee waiter isn't always as easy.
Be prepared to ask for tea/coffee but beware .....you may go to egg station -have an ommelate cooked for you-make your own toast-come back to table .....eat your breakfast .....perhaps have one of the twenty unorganised waiters offer you tea/coffee....before the prize waiter (hopefully with a full pot) actually comes to serve the tea/coffee.
Note to hotels....go spend a morning breakfast at the holiday inn ....where they have around 5 waiters serving tea/coffee constantly (if you only have one boy with a small pot of coffee - when he goes to refill it your guests are left waiting for a long period of time).

All in all the hotel is ok - I was warned by my travel agent that the standard of accommodation in the north isn't as high ....true .....it's ok.

But the good thing is that it's encouraged me to search for an apartment if I go to goa again.......

If you are used to European standard hotels or it's your first time to north goa and you are nervous about the standards in goa ......this will be ok .....you won't arrive and want to run back to the airport.

Elderly or infirm guests.
Perhaps get a cab for airport transfers - so you not stuck on main road with luggage.
Also remember that the pavements etc are really uneven etc

Enjoy fortune select .....it is a bit Faulty Towers and average accommodation but safe/clean and unorganised.

This is my second stay in fortune chain, and i am loving it. Nice comfortable, new properties, good food and location. This one is half a km from the beach, the beach is not crowded very clean, no people running after you.

The service is very good, staff go beyond normal routine to help you, child friendly.

Room Tip: No sea view rooms.
