“good little place”
Review of Nani Daman

Reviewed February 20, 2014

It is a decent little place to roam around. Also market is good place, where you can kill your time in window shopping. Must bargain hard to get things in right price.

Been visiting Daman regularly, at least once or twice a year for about 15 years now. Advantage is the proximity to Bombay. Abot 180km, and the road being excellent one can drive down in under 3 hours.
Attractions:
Nothing much about the place. A small union territory. That gives the advantage of no excise and taxes on liqour. Result: really cheap liqour. The prices are about 1/3rd that of maharashtra.
There a plenty of decent hotels on the beach or close to the beach (Devka) Prices range from about Rs 1500 to 6000 for the top resorts.
Food: plenty of restaurants around serving decent and reasonably priced food. now there is also a Subway, Dominoes and McDonald in Daman.
Beaches: None too clean. Devka beach has black sand and is rocky and definitely not for swimming. but can visit to watch the sunset.
Weather: usually warm and humid throughout the year. Pretty heavy rains.
Gardens: there are a couple of gardens and lakes to visit.
St Jerome Fort: an old portuguese fort. Not a must see.
Mosquitoes are a menace so do carry plenty of repellants.
Would definitely recommend a 2 night visit to relax here.

Very congested traffic. If you drive yourself it will be a nightmare
The Market is good and worth a visit to have a look of the recent fashoin clothes, cosmetics, electronics and some exotics.
