“Worst Meal of Our Entire Trip”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

On a recent trip to Ruidoso, NM our party took a day trip to White Sands National Monument. On our way back to our Ruidoso cabin we stopped for dinner at Tia Lupe's in Alamogordo. First let me say that we are Texans, but we understand the difference between Tex-Mex and New Mexico Mexican food. We have eaten many delicious types of New Mexican Mexican food, but Tia Lupe's was not it. First the tortilla chips arrived tough and over-cooked. They were thick, like pita chips. The salsa was fine, in fact it was the only decent part of the meal. My husband had the chili releno which looked okay, but he said was not particularly flavorful. My brother-in-law pronounced his chicken enchilada as the worst he had ever eaten. I ordered the stuffed sopapilla because of reviews on TripAdvisor. It was't bad, just bland. As were the plain pinto beans, no seasoning, and the dried out rice. Watch out for the green and red sauces, both were just awful, acrid-tasting and we were glad we had asked for them to be on the side. All in all this was the worst meal of our entire trip. I don't understand why their other reviews were so glowing, and our experience was so poor.

“A Pleasant Find”
Reviewed August 22, 2013

We only had a short time for dinner and Tia Lupes" was delicious. They make their own salsa which was very good. The enchiladas were great.

“Great Mexican Food”
Reviewed July 26, 2013 via mobile

I really enjoyed my meal! They have fantastic complementary chips with pico de gallo. I had their stuffed sopapilla and it was great. Their chicken dishes are also fantastic. If you are craving Mexican, this is a great place to go.

“Great food, great service, at a great price!”
Reviewed July 23, 2013 via mobile

After a long hot afternoon at White Sands, we were driving back to Ruidoso and used trip advisor to find a Mexican restaurant in Alamogordo NM. The top listing (6 of 49) was Tia Lupes'. We arrived 20 minutes before closing and they gladly took our family of six in for dinner. We got quick and friendly service with a smile. We tried a large variety of entrees but the favorites among our group were stuffed sopapillas, tamales, and the rellino burrito smothered in green chili. Sides were great too. Recommend the sopapillas for dessert too...perfect with honey to finish our meal. All in all great food, great service, and at a great price! Highly recommended!
