This hotel was selected because we have to hold a conference. We expected lot of delegates from outside India and we were anxious. However, all foreign delegates appreciated the hotel in all aspects very well. There was a little delay in starting the morning proceedings but it was acceptable. Overall I would rate the hotel for holding confernces as well stay 4+ on a scale of 5.

No where near a 5 star, more like a 3. Arrived late and taken to room, average decor and styling but bathroom was a disgrace. Black mould in silicon around the bath. Also had doorway to adjoining room from which I could here the occupant. Shown 3 more rooms on same wing none acceptable. Taken to wing at front of hotel which was slightly better - so took it.

Service was very attentive and food was reasonable (only ate breakfast). Used spa facilities which were slightly amateurish but very keen. Had a manicure and pedicure with 2 attendants working at the same time took 1 and half hours and cost the equivalent of £10.

Prices for everything was cheap - drinks, laundry, spa

We arrived to Chandighar late ar night and decided to stay at a hotel for one night rather than wake up family. The check in was easy. The service was good. The rooms had all the basic ammenities you would expect from a hotel. They even had brand new plasma TVs which were nice.

The room service was not very good, but was available until midnight.

The AM buffet was tasty and fresh.

Overall it was a pleasant hotel.

This is actually the type of accomdation I expected to stay in throughout my stay in India. However, the first hotel I stayed at in India exceeded my expectations in terms of service, decor and furnishing (more westernized), and cleanliness. Thus, the Mountview was a disappointment. However, that being said, had I not stayed any where in India prior to the Mountview, my stay there would have been fine.

Chandigarh is more suburban than cities like Mumbai or Kolkata so the hotel is set in a quiet location. There are several shops across the way, a convenience store, a alcohol store, and a very western coffee shop. Thus, it's close to anything you might need.

The main shopping area in Chandigarh is Sector 17. The hotel is about a 10 min took took ride away so it's easy to get to from the hotel.

The rooms are very outdated, but have all the basic amenities that you need. The furnishings are old so although they might be clean, they don't necessarily look it. Especially under the scrutiny of a spoiled westerner. This is a very no frills hotel.

Was there for work and the wireless connection was spotty to say the least. However, after complaining, they did give extra internet access as well as a discount on the internet fee.

Except for the breakfast that is included with your hotel fee, stay away from the Around the Clock Cafe. Rustles and the bar next to it had better food. On my last night there my mates and I were pleasantly surprised to find a very swank bar hidden on the second floor. There is a little stair case on you right, just before you get to the Around the Clock cafe that leads you right up to the bar. Great ambience, decor, drinks and "bar" food. Had I known about it sooner, I would have eaten all my meals there instead of the cafe.

If you know what to expect, the Hotel Mountview won't disappoint.

While on a business trip in India I spent 2 weeks in Hotel Mountview. As mentioned in the hotel description it is located in a very nice green and quiet area. But that's all about quietness. The rooms are clairaudient and it is no great effort to listen to discussions in the adjacent rooms. Much worse is the coffee shop where you have breakfast. There were two TV sets in operation, each one running a different program at a quite high volume. Additionally to enjoy the valued guest they lavished you with background music.

The rooms are in fair condition if you are willing to ignore a damaged toilet cover and dark spotted splices in the bathroom. At least there weren't any bugs.

Room service is fair. Service in the coffee shop depends very much on the staff which is present. I met 3 or 4 waiters who delivered a real professional service. The remaing staff is either attracted by the TV program or is overeager and clears away the items you just collected from breakfast buffet while you return to the buffet to get a coffee.

From my point of view the items on the breakfast buffet are not presented in an attractive manner . Taste of indian and continental dishes is below average. Much better is the Rustles restaurant where you get a very good service and tasty food as well.

I had also good experiences with all staff related to bell desk. Laundry service is also good because it was quick and efficient at reasonable prices.

Another bad experience is internet access in Hotel Mountview. You have to buy an internet voucher. The longest period it is valid is 24 hours, starting from your first login. They charge 450Rs for that, which can turn out to be very costly if you need constant internet access for a longer time.

Conclusion: From my point of view only the room rate and the service at Rustles restaurant are at 5 star level. The rest is just avarage. Altough there was no real big issue I will not stay in Mountview again if I should come back to Chandigarh.
