Owner description: Next to city centre, in Sector 16 is situated Zakir Hussain Rose Garden Asia's largest Rose Garden and is spreaded over 30 acres of land having over 1600 different species or roses. These have been planted beautifully carved out lawns and flowers beds. Like the cultural zone which is just across the road in sector 10,this was also planned by Dr. M.S. Randhawa as his interest in horticulture and fondness for flowers was profuse.

We visited this place in June 2013. Unfortunately when we visited, i guess it was not the season time and there were hardly any rose. In fact our cab driver also told us that you will not get to see anything much which turned out be true but since it was there in our agenda and nothing was in place to replace to go somewhere else we decided at least lets see how big the garden is and it indeed is BIG. Check out the season if you plan to visit this place in Chandigarh

This was a calm and beautiful garden full of roses. There were almost all the variety of roses, some I never heard of. I was amazed to see old ladies jogging on the tracks and hats off to their fitness regime. The fountains in the garden add to the picturesque view and you can capture beautiful pictures amidst the Rose garden. A walk in this garden will refresh you totally.

A short stroll from the Taj in Chandigarh is the Zakir Rose Garden. With an enormous variety of roses, the gardens are kept clean. Though entrance is free, it is not overcrowded - even in the middle of the day.
There are a number of fountains to sit beside to keep cool on a hot day, or find yourself a quite corner and relax! There are a number of pergolas or covered areas to get out of the sun if needed.

Visited this garden in mid-March. This garden is in middle of the city & our hotel was just opposite. As it was not the season for roses, there weren't too many roses around.

This is a big garden in middle of Chandigarh but once you enter it you are away from all noise, pollution and there is just peace & chirping of birds. Its really unbelievable that India can have places like this.

We had reached this place around 4 pm & it was not overtly crowded. There is no entry fee (again a pleasant surprise). There were few pensioners & mostly young guys/girls around. The gardeners were busy mowing the lawn & besides their lawnmowers there wasn't any other mechanical sound. As we moved further to the centre of the garden even that noise subsided and time moved very slowly.

We sat down on soft grass & couldn't resist to lie down in the March cool breeze.....WOW! That was awesome. We spent good 15 minutes watching the sky, birds & squirrels. If we were not talking, we would have easily drifted to a nice snooze.

Those staying in concrete jungles, I will highly recommend you go to this garden, not just to see roses but to fill your lungs with clean air & your mind with peace. If you have time on your hand you can easily spend 1 - 1.5 hrs here.
