“Its a must visit...for anyone who enjoys good art”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 31, 2014

Let me confess, I am not an art buff and don't understand deeper meanings of paintings etc & I don't even bother of vising art galleries etc. I believe in simple visual art in any form which will give pleasure to anyone and that's why I was curious to see Rock Garden.

This place is located on the same road of Sukhana lake but a kilometer away from the lake. There is paid parking and you can enter this place after paying a small fee.

Hats off to Mr Nek Chand who was secretly working on his creations till such time during Chandigarh city creation the Govt. discovered that he had created some amazing artifacts in his hideout. It took some time for the beaurocrats & politicians to take call whether to punish or reward him but at end of it sense prevailed.

This amazing guy has created this place from garbage. Many walls are decorated with used plugs, electric fuses. Broken ceramics (plates, cups, tiles, commodes, basins), bangles etc have been painstakingly, collected, sorted and used very creatively. Mr Chand used various techniques to create this monument. He also designed various ways for creating waterfalls & similar effects. We were amazed to see some of the techniques like creating a thin wall made of concrete & stones which gives it effect of a curtain.

The small arches which act as gates, requires adults to bend to enter, not sure if Mr. Nek Chand was a short man or he wanted people to bow down to his creation. Anyways, he definitely deserves a big thumbs up.

When you come to present - I didn't like few things:
- Government hasn't taken sufficient care of this place. Waterbodies are dirty and stinks
- Tried to commercialise in some places where camel ride & 'magic mirrors' are put to make more money from visitors
- There is a large amphi theater, which could be used to create awareness
- Appears that the creations of Mr Nek Chand have not been repaired/renovated to their former glory

My rating is purely driven by the magic of this one man ....

“Nek Chand's Rock Garden”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2014

This is an epitome of creativity & innovation garden situated near Sukhna lake. The Rock Garden of Chandigarh is also known as Nek Chand's rock garden as he is it's founder. It is a sculptured garden completely made by using a variety of different discarded waste materials like broken bangles, tube lights, tiles, mudguards etc. etc. It consists of 1st, 2nd & 3rd phase of different out looks & creativity. After visiting this garden really it's creativity gives us a good lesson that nothing is to be discarded. When we make our programme for Chandigarh then we must visit rock garden. This garden never bores. When we visit it, our mind becomes fresh always. The rock garden is still made out of recycled materials & with the government's help, Nek Chand was able to set up collection centers around the city for waste materials.

“A MUST visit if you're in Chandigarh.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2014

It's a nice place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and admire the artistic mind of Nek Chand. Truly a unique experience with loads of interesting sculptures to admire. Its amazing how using all recycle items such as bangles, ceramics pots, electrical waste, bottles and etc, he created this entire park.

Just make sure you allocate enough time to slowly stroll all the sections and snap away. The park provides great opportunity for photographers. Just becareful going through all the extremely small doors and pathways or you're sure to bump your head on one of them :)
