“Excellent, Impressive and Grand”
Reviewed January 1, 2012

We visited Nalanda heritage site in December 2011 while visiting Patna and Gaya. The place is easily assessable from Patna. One can rent a cab for a two day trip covering other sites such as Bodh Gaya, Rajgir and Pawapuri for as low as INR 4000 inclusive of all taxes.
Nalanda stood up for the grand university it was with beautiful restored temple complexes, auditoriums and residential area. The place is well maintained (surprising for me) and guides are available in all languages.
Refreshments are available outside the complex and public conveniences are located inside the walled complex. I was amazed at the grandeur and legacy that ancient Magadha empire was. A must see for photo enthusiasts and travel bloggers.
One down side is that there are no places to stay near by so either you go back to Patna or continue the journey to Bodh Gaya/Rajgir for the night.

“Good Vacation Trip”
Reviewed November 7, 2011

Its near Patna around 80 km through Fatua daniyawan chandi to Rajgir and Nalanda ruins
You have to plan for a day with Family, its good Picnic experiences for them..Rope ways old Ruins,Hot water Kunds, new constructed xuensang (huensang) temple and many many more things to visit
1st plan for Nalanda ruins its about 15 km away prior from Rajgir and here you have to buy Tickets ( for camera video camera also)...you can see old Ruins(kindly go by Guide (charges to final before and its fixed by Govt also, otherwise you will not enjoy and able to get important information)..buy some gift from shop in restaurant near meseum.
slight away, approx 1-2 km is new constructed xuensang (huensang) temple which is beautiful..
near 1-2 km its Kundalpur Temples..vivrant and beautiful
Rajgir is full of places to visit..Rope way, tamples,Hot spring Kunds, sonbhandar, akhada, caves and few very old bimbisaar jail and chariot marks (strange but truth)..need some maintanance by Govt..
Hotel you can get in Rajgir..luxury one is Indo Hokke (charges around 6000/day) but its beautiful and rajgir, Tathagat in medium range(2000)..there are also many lodges but quality!!!!!!
Highly recommended place to Visit sp. in Winter...
