The hotel is centrally located in the Somajiguda area near Banjara Hills. The property is built well & looks good. We were really excited first we entered the main gates, then while approaching the porch & again while we entered the main lobby or that you can see with the round pillars in the hotel pics.
1st alarm bell went off when we saw the sofas in the lobby. Very old & run down upholstery & the additional linings that were laid on it..
The check in process was smooth as the front office executive approached us to collect all IDs & booking vouchers. The rooms were cozy & well appointed. No complaints with the bathroom cleanliness too.
Trouble started when I tried shower.. It NEVER delivered the hot water it was required to. Not in my room.. Not on the entire floor..(We had Rooms 710, 711 & 712 booked for 3 nights as I remember) The water was either cold or lukewarm at best (at rare occasions..)
Buffet Breakfast is NORMALLY arranged in a large hall in the basement. Eggs to order, some bread variety & a few tidbits here & there. There was no butter for the bread though. And fruits or juice was always over.
I said breakfast is normally arranged in the basement because the 2nd day brought us a surprise.. The breakfast was arranged by the poolside this day. Sounds fun ? ...It did to us but even at 8 - 8:30 am in the winter days, the hyderabad sun gets pretty annoying & I am sure hardly any of the hotel guests was able to even complete their breakfast let alone enjoying it.. The reason ? They had rented the basement hall to some IT Geeks for a seminar that day & the next..
The 3rd morning we saw the breakfast being served in a small restaurant in the lobby. The poolside option was avoided as I & definitely most of other guests complained. This experience went sort of like ordering idlis, dosas or eggs whatever one wanted out of the routine breakfast menu. No buffets here as there's scarcity of place. No butter for the bread here too..
Rest of the meals : We were out of the hotel the whole 3 days during the Diwali holidays that we visited hyderabad. It's a nice city with lots to offer.. Never had a meal at Katriya as our sight seeing didn't allow us to return for the lunches & dinners were at places we heard to be nicer..
Overall, I would say, things you see at the Katriya are a little better than the actual experience. I guess some one built it & finished it with good dreams & then left it for some jokers to manage without any intervention.
I even saw a a US Marine Chopper photograph in the lobby that was presented to the hotel & it said they had successfully hosted a US Marine team a few years earlier.
I wonder if they spent all the butter on them US Marines.. ;)
