My husband selected Celeste, to take the family out for my Birthday dinner. It was worth it! We started with the tour of the palace. The palace is simply breathtaking, though I wish we had a better guide. The guide seemed to be doing it because she was supposed to. Celeste is a Italian/Continental Restaurant. The service is quick and great. The breads served as hors d'œuvre's were amazing. The food was delecious and the chef was able to take in requests which were not a part of the menu! I had a great birthday! They got a cake for me as well, since my husband had mentioned that it was my birthday!

While touted as an Italian restaurant, Celeste offers a variety of continental dishes. Reservations are required, as well as business casual attire. In addition, each guest must spend a minimum of 2000 rupees. This last requirement is quite easily met as drinks are 750 rupees.

The setting is elegant and the service is good. This is definitely the place for a relaxing flavorful meal.

The Falaknuma palace is a really amazing place to just go. You can create this occasion by having a meal either at the Adaa or at the Celeste. Before having your wonderful dinner you can visit the palace, which has been so nicely renovated that you feel like being a guest and a royal guest! we went at 12 people for a family reunion and we opted for a set menu (you have to call before and book the place and the menu: around Rs 2500 per person) which avoid harsle of choosing etc.... the service is excellent, the food is original and great, serve by plate (the portions are quite big) and the ambiance make the evening unforgetable. Do not hesitate to celebrate any family (or couple) event at the Celeste....it will be memorable;

The Celeste is one of the two restaurants at the Taj Falaknuma Palace. It serves Mediterranean food, mostly. We went there to celebrate a birthday in the family and were totally smitten with the place.

A major part of the charm lies in the property itself. We entered the Falaknuma Palace from the Old City side, and it was absolutely magical the way in which with a single left turn we suddenly cut through the noise and the crowds and slipped into a different world altogether. A world where horse-drawn carriages clip-clopped along a long cobbled driveway and rose petals fell out of the sky. We were lucky to see this because this is done only for guests who are booked for a stay in the hotel.

We went around the rooms in the first block, marvelling at the painstaking restoration especially of the library. People from the hotel were happy to be tour guides.

And then we walked down through a long sort of courtyard to the restaurant in the rear wing. The restaurant is beside a semi-covered terrace where you can see the city lying beneath you, all the dust and smell and noise and squalor converted to a beautiful glitter by the space the Falaknuma puts between you and the urban sprawl.

You suddenly realise, as you sip your cocktail, that this is what makes the Falaknuma experience unique. Unlike most places that slip a glass shield around you, through which you can watch the world without discomfort, the Falaknuma allows you to be part of the same atmosphere. It just lifts you 2000 feet higher. As soon as you understand this, the drink in your hand becomes ambrosia, and you feel like royalty, above the world yet part of it. So strong is this feeling that when you notice a damp patch on the sofa you don't leap up in outrage that this could happen in a luxury hotel. You merely think to yourself that this must be attended to.

The experience continues when you enter the Celeste. We ordered things that we had only heard of earlier but were completely new to us otherwise. I remember something with foie gras, and my husband had something with truffles, which I was expecting to be large black chunks, but were such tiny bits of black that I could hardly taste them when I sampled his dish. Our son was having none of this celestial royalty business. He was firm about having roast duck, as the closest to fried chicken he could get. After that he nibbled through an entire tray of fabulous chocolate that they served us just like that, on the house.

That ended our Celeste experience. I'm now determined to go to the Falaknuma for breakfast, which they say can be served in interesting nooks and hidden places on the property. I don't know whether one has to be a hotel guest for this, but I'm going to find out. I want to see the place by daylight. Also, I want to know whether my judgement was affected by the night time and the cocktails I had.
