“Unique place to stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 21, 2013

The resort is situated in Corbyn’s area. Its on the way to Corbyn’s Cave beach. I booked an AC Swiss dome for 2 nights. The resort is well located on slightly hilly side and has sea shore on the opposite side. The dome is quite big and unique and has a private platform outside the dome to lie down and enjoy the sea. I stayed last 2 days of my Andaman trip and I loved my stay @ the resort. The room and bathroom was very clean. Only issue I can complain about is the room telephone was not working properly, so for any requirement I need to go to the reception or the restaurant.
For all the stays in Andaman I was very surprised to see the cleanliness of all the accommodations.
The food was very nice and beers were also available on the menu. They have a open restaurant and can prepare a barbeque on your early request. Fixed breakfast menu was included in the room tariff. The resort guys were very helpful, punctual and nice.

The last big tsunami tore into the place, taking with it some of the fiberglass pods. Folks there are trying their best to spruce the place up with new flowering plants, but they are clearly underfunded, and not treated at par with the main Megapode resort. The new plants looked starved for water; they are on the hill, and they need to instal a drip irrigation system.

First. the gripes. We rented two pods, and in one of them, the roof had a big crack, you could see the sky through it. Luckily it did not rain during our stay. The pods were otherwise reasonably clean. I thoughts the beds are too low. They did not have remotes for the AC units, so you could not adjust the temperature to your liking.

There were some bigger safety issues. You have to climb a lot of steps to reach your pods. The steps are really badly designed, some were shallow, and others were really high, There were no handrails either. They would be a nightmare for any elderly person. The entry door jambs are also way too high, and you have to climb over sharp aluminum frame to enter. Really scary for elderly people. The Megapode camp resort can be so much more nice with just a bit more attention to detail. Nevertheless, I recommend the place.

Room Tip: Andaman is hot and very muggy. You'll need AC to sleep through the night.

Undoubtedly best place to stay in Port Blair. We booked it through Cleartrip. One best factor, which as a Gujju is most important for me, was value for money. The resort nearby would've costed me around three times more than this. Just the challenging factor is to get accommodation as you will need to fight a lot to get that in this hotel, considering the resort being a GOVT resort.

I stayed at 3 hotels at port blair and must admit that this was the best hotel of all. The 2 days stay at the bamboo cottage became memorable and in all my trip i wished i should have not have tried any other hotel. the rooms was good with beautiful sea view from balcony, the rooms had TV, Fridge with complimentary 500ml pepsi, AC, a intercom, A tea maker etc. The restaurant was good with buffet at day and evening at Rs.325 and Rs.375 respectively. Food was good as well. Room service was also good and quick. Never try any restraunt restaurant outside hotel, it will be disaster. Only the bathroom appeared small but it was ok. overall a very good hotel.

I was bit apprehensive about Megapode Camping Resort as it's a government resort and was not sure about the service or rooms. But my anxieties vanished as soon as I saw the location .It's on top of a cliff overlooking the sea and when you step outside your dome you get a nice breeze blowing across .We sat during the evenings watching the sunset and enjoy the breeze and the sea view .We stayed there for two days .The service was very good .The manager and people attending us very nice and polite . The rooms are dome shaped and are placed away from one another .The Garden is well maintained and food served his very good ,not too spicy or oily .They serve only beer here and I feel is good value for money . The only negative part as told by other reviewers also is that it is 5 km away from the city centre hence you will not get autos easily but you can ask the manager to order one and he will do it promptly .But view ,food and decent rooms outscore the negative part . You would need to book do a net booking as rooms are full during most of the time during the nov-jan session

This kind of property caters to a very specific category of travellers. If you are looking for a luxury property and ready to pay appropriate premium then you won't like this place. Similarly, if you enjoy staying within a plush room rather than step out of it, then this place with dissatisfy you.

BUT, if you are nature lover with average budgets in mind and prefer to stay away from the humdrum of a busy town then I can bet my every penny that you won't find a better place to stay in Port Blair.

We (family of 2 adults and 2 under-10 kids) stayed there last week of December. Our arrival coincided with a hurricane which was passing by....and first 2 days we were just holed up in the room with lashing winds and rains that I have never ever seen. The roof starting leaking at one end. However, the staff called us and requested to stay inside and all meals were served in the room. The staff came multiple times to wipe the wet floor and tried real hard to make us comfortable. Once the storm subsided, the beauty of the island was simply fantastic. This place is 5-7 kilometers away from the main town but faces the sea which is just 50 meters away. Note that the sea is not approachable as the resort is on a cliff.

Good points: 1. The staff was over helpful and caring 2. The food was good - close to home food. Being north Indians, it was a delight to get all the appropriate dishes. It is no oily or spicy. Breakfast had very limited choice though (bread+omletter or puri+sabji or bread+jam+butter). 3. The location is very calm and peacefuly. Built on a huge hilly tract, there is enough greenery on the site itself

Bad points: Being a bit away from town, accessibility is a problem. The resort has a tie up with a local transport agent who provides Scorpio jeep whenever required but costs much. IF you want to the Science Center wihch is some 700-800 meters away then you can find autorickshaws from there which are pretty cheap as compared to mainland India.

Room Tip: All rooms give an equally good view - choose anyone!

I was very apprehensive starting from choosing this hotel till i reached there. However its very nicely located and had a different feeling due to its dome shape rooms. The staff is very good and helping.

Even the email enquiries and booking was quite good and supportive. Thanks to the team of megapode who had extended their support to make my stay better. The only thing which one need to think before booking is Plan your itinerary properly. Since the resort is located at Corvy's beach; its far from city and thus u need to plan your transport properly. There is no rickshaws available and thus u need to either book their travel services or take one or 2 auto fellows no. who will come for your pickup.

Overall if you wish to explore the sea and stay in different type of resort from normal hotel then this is the best place. I loved it and would recommended the same if you wish to go ahead.
