“Nothing special for this price”
Reviewed January 7, 2014 via mobile

The hotel was recommended as the best one and honestly we expected something special. However, we're disappointed. Although, our room was spacious and clean, the food in the restaurant was average. The staff at reception did not explain us anything about facilities, our lagguage we carried by ourselves to the third floor. When we had problems with Internet access, I called reception, but I could not get any solution from the staff, because the guy, who picked up was hardly able to speak English. For the price we paid - 175$ per night - it should not be like this:(
I would recommend to choose a room with "mountain view", it is much quieter than those "at the pool view".

Telamar provided for a very enjoyable weekend. Tela itself doesn't have the world's nicest beach, though Telamar probably has the nicest stretch of it. Far cleaner and safer than most other parts of Tela. Even if not picturesque it's still a great place to relax, swim, and have fun. Their pools are incredible. The pool area is huge with multiple areas ranging from quiter pools, pools with swim-up bars, and big pool areas with slides, kids, games.

While Telamar is not the place to go if you want something small and boutiquey, it's got everything you need and one could easily spend several days there without having to leave. There are multiple restaurants, bars, clubs, and even a small golf course. While none of it is world class, it's all quite nice and a great place to go with friends or family. It can also be used as a jumping off place to explore other spots in the area.

Villas Telamar continues to be a favorite. While the hotel has been in business for a while, they've managed to keep up with the facility quite well. They offer great accommodations at a reasonable rate. Be advised that their beach is public, thus the beach area is not as clean as one would like it to be. All and all, a choice of you
plan to visit Tela.

love the food, the ambiance, and now the new side is quite modern ... but i favor the older side, the leftover homes from the banana plantation bosses... the houses have been updated but retain the absolute quaintness of a golden past ... try the 'sopa de caracol' with a cold Salvavidas!

Room Tip: if u r into modern comfort, do stay on the new part. if u want a taste of life in the early 1940...

We just came back from a trip to Telamar and had an amazing time. But remember...this is Honduras. Yes, the reception takes forever and is amazingly inefficient. Yes, the electricity goes out periodically, and the "show" is hysterically cheesy (and we saw our housekeeping staff up there doing double duty lip syncing Chicago tunes). Yes, the food is not great and there's not much variety. But if you remember where you are, and can go with the flow, it's great. I understand that the newer hotel rooms around the pool are nice, but we stayed in a villa and are so happy we did. The villas are HUGE (big enough that we hired a Garifuna music and dance troupe of 8 to perform in our living/dining room area) and have wood floors, giant windows, and comfortable beds. They look terrible from the outside but are great on the inside. We had a 3 bedroom oceanfront villa and easily accommodated 4 children and 6 adults. We had crazy/powerful A/C in the rooms (and if you leave the doors open the whole place cools easily), a huge deck with chairs and hammocks, tons of privacy and space and were able to buy (super delicious) pan de coco right off our deck in the morning. The best was the fully equipped (not fancy, but certainly functional) kitchen. That way we weren't tied to the restaurants in the resort, which was really nice. We went on a short trip into the supermarket in town and bought up a bunch of easy dinners to make at the villa. When we weren't out on excursions (e.g. Punta Sal, ocean kayaking) we were at one of the pools. There's a great big pool with slide (no supervision! go down backwards! in trains!), poolside bar, and a small kiddie pool with little slides and various fountain things. Tables with shade filled up quickly, but there were always beach chairs available. All in all, we had a fabulous vacation and would definitely go back.

Room Tip: Note that the ocean is a bit rough for little kids and has an undertow, and is calmer in the morning...

This was my second time staying at Hotel Villas Telamar and the experience was wonderful! The rooms in the newer section are spacious and clean with all the amenities you would expect to find at a higher end resort including toiletries, a hair dryer, make-up mirror, and mini fridge. There was also bottled water in the room. The beds are very comfortable and there were a variery of pillows on each bed to use. The pool and restaurant areas are extremely clean and the staff are quick to assist. We ordered food poolside and the service was quick and the food was good. The dinner buffet as well as the breakfast buffet in the main restaurant was outstanding! The food was great and the service outstanding. The beach area was beautiful and lounge chairs and towels were readily available. One of the staff, Maurice, went above and beyond to serve us. The evening entertainment and music by the pool was very enjoyable. The only complaint I would have is the check in process- it is painfully slow.
