Very friendly staff, a basic place to stay but located on the beach beautiful views bit of hassle from the local bumsters but they are harmless and friendly. the Gambian food is gorgeous how people can go there and eat buger and chips is beyond me, best resturants are jo jo's, Ali Baba's, Choosan and African queen not one bad meal also Wild Monkey, Am booking for next year but prob for the senagambia hotel which is next door

Myself & my sister stayed at the holiday beach club between 26/12/08 - 02/01/09

Weather was great all holiday, rooms were basic but clean, be careful of the hot water in the bathroom, its scorching!

breakfast consists of bread, jam, cheese, cereal, melon, tea/coffee, juice... this was fine for us - we had read up on the hotel before we went so knew what we were expecting. you can always order extras off the menu like boiled eggs/ommelettes etc or go out onto the strip

we mostly stayed around the pool for our weeks stay, you need to be quite early for sunbeds as although there are plenty of sunbeds there didnt seem to be many matress things to go on the top

lots of nice places to eat out on the strip - we ate at ali babas, paradiso, jewel of india, wild monkey, kora etc etc - all food was fantastic

for football you can go upstairs in ali babas where they have a few big screens, they charged 50 dalasi to get in (£1.25) but you got a drink with that so not too bad

the beach at the hotel is nice, quite shingley in some parts tho. there is also a private section of beach just inside the hotel if you dont want to get hassled by sellers.... we only went for a short walk down the beach cos we couldnt be bothered with daytime hassle but others we spoke to walked for miles

its fine to go out in the evening up the strip, the locals will chat to you but if you firmly say no thanks then they are fine & still carry on chatting.... as 2 girls on our own i expected to get a lot more hassle than what we actually did

we went a trip in swiss army trucks to visit a compound, school & distillery & paradise beach.... also just down the road from the hotel is the monkey park - you can get there along the road or the beach

all in all was a very relaxing holiday, nothing to complain about & i would definetly go back to Gambia & the Holiday Beach Club

having just returned from the Holiday Beach Club all I can say is that is surpassed expectation.

I was expecting cheap and cheerful ....somthing reminiscent of the really basic self catering we used to get on the Greek Isles but it was far better than this.

Wehad a twin room with beds nearly a double size a piece Yes the bathroom is basic but had a shower curtain ( again thinking Greece!) and was cleaned daily. In fact clean towels daily which I cannot remember the last time I had when abroad.

The gardens were well tended and Solomon looks after you well on the beach.....and no we didn't tip him to do this. The food in th hotel was ok but as others have said you get a much better price elsewhere for you food and drinks.

The hotel was well situated but the drive meant you had some privacy away from the main strip. Several people had also been moved from the Mansea hotel as they complained about the standard there and were very pleased with the Holiday Beach Club.

We had a basic room in B block but you can get bigger rooms with a lounge and kitchen if wanted but we saw little point as only sleep and shower in the room. Hot water was plentiful..no TV or phone but who needs it?

All in all a lovely place to stay.......a sentiment agreed by all those we met there.

ok, if your looking for the real Gambia then stay here!, i have been coming to this htel for 13 years and its one of the first here.

The rooms are basic and comfortable and the maids work really hard and you get clean sheets every day, if you want 5 star luxury stay at the Kairiba or kololi beach club, but if your not spending all your holiday in your room you will be happy here, even with little ones its fab and there is a kiddies pool.

The staff here are the best and have been here years so will do anything to make your stay great, see my husband armstrong the entertainments manager if you need anything as his english is great and tell him his wife says hi!
Also if you have any probs with rooms see teejan on reception.

the pool area is lovely and the hotel is genera;;y quite and relaxing, i reccomend GTS restauant and bar opposite the hotel entrance, and for clubbing you NEED to go to Jokor at westfield on a wednesday night (about £3 in a taxi from Kololi) its the best night in gambia and not full of hookers and hasslers like wow bar! enjoy

Recently returned from a one week stay at the Holiday Beach. The hotel has good and bad points. The rooms are cleaned well on a daily basis, but the cleaner just walks into your room while your in bed insisting on cleaning. Its intrusive. Beds are very comfy though. The gardeners do an excellent job, but chase the monkeys away. They may not like them, but their more entertaining than the locals! The staff advertise 'entertainment' on boards around the grounds, but when you turn up, it rarely takes place. Breakfast was ok, as long as you like bread! Bar and Restaurant prices were very expensive and best to avoid. Unfortunately we stayed in the hotel a few times to eat as we just couldn't face the gauntlet of harassment when venturing out onto the strip. I actually had to get rude on a few occasions and ask people to stop following me. If your eating out, go to Ali Babas. The Pizzas are to die for and the fish fingers exceptional. The staff are very friendly too, but it does get very busy in the evening. Most of the other local restaurants we tried were iffy. The pool was nice, but theres a constant flow of cold water into it so it was freezing all day and not really useable. I'd certainly visit the Gambia again because the weather was perfect and there are not many places that close that can boast temperatures in the 30's in December, but I'd probably try another hotel.
