We stumbled across this gem when using trip advisor to decide which hotel to stay at whilst in the Gambia. As it was we couldn't have asked for anything better. Sulayman and Patricia our hosts gave us a great welcome and were very helpful. This was our first visit to the Gambia and we were picked up from the airport by Sulayman and we were offered the services of Ibu, family member, as a guide. Ibu was a wonderful guide taking us to places no tour guide would have taken us! Our rooms were cleaned every day but Sunday, with no shortage of clean towels. We will definitely stay at Devon Lodge next time we visit the Gambia Thank you for making our holiday special Sulayman, Patricia and Ibu. Lee & Paul x

We love Gambia and have stayed in 6 different hotels / apartments in our 6 previous holidays in Gambia, including Kombo Beach, Ocean Bay, and Senegambia Hotel. I can honestly say that Devon Lodge is one of the better ones.

We had our own idea where Devon Lodge was, but were a bit suprised how 'far' back it was from the main road - I would say around 5 mins walk on a sandy track. However, even after dark it was not a problem at all - in some ways it enhanced the experience and we even had a sing song with some of the guys on the way home. I would recommend a torch though but the bonus for us was that it is VERY quiet at night and we slept well.

Devon Lodge itself is a lovely place - nice gardens out front and the apartments are spacious and as previously mentioned, exceptionally clean. Satelitte TV, fridge, gas cooking area etc - everything you need really and if you want anything else Patricia and Sulaman go out of their way to provide if possible.

On a previous post it has been mentioned about the noise from the generator. We were a bit confused when we arrived and were asked if we wanted the generator on or off at night and we said we wanted it on, thinking if it wasn't we would have no electricity. However, this was our mistake - of course the generator kicks in when the mains electric goes off and this happened only once that I can remember when we were there and the generator noise wasn't a problem at all. As I said - very quiet at night and in the morning the bird sound ( I think it was birds??) was fantastic.

We were made to feel very welcome by the hosts - Patricia and Sulaman - and they live 'on site' but we didn't really see them much which in my opinion is a very good sign.

All in all I would say a very good choice of lodging if you are looking for a nice quality, reasonably priced apartment but maybe have been to Africa before and feel confident about wandering around then this could be ideal.

Many thanks

Spot on location, walking distance to Senegambia strip and 10 mins walk from Kololi beach. Patricia is exceptionally friendly and helpful. Apartments are kept spotlessly clean and have proper beds (not African foam!). Bedding and towels of good quality provided and changed regularly. Apartment is definitely comfy and perfectly adequate but I wouldn't consider it 'luxury'. Being at the front it was sometimes frustrating when occasionally the generator was fired up late at night when power went off (on one occasion until 2am) as that disrupted our sleep somewhat. Other than that, no complaints - we would definitely consider staying here again. Our stay was 4 weeks long, so we had long enough to see any issues if they arose, but they didn't!!

We take on board the comments regarding the generator. It is actually very rare for the electricity to be cut between midnight and 7am, since this is the time of low usage generally, but it does happen sometimes and did happen several times during January this year. Possibly maintenance work?

The happiness and comfort of our guests is very important to us and we frequently check that all is well with them. If we had known this was a problem for this particular guest at the time we would have taken steps to put it right if at all possible. It is sometimes difficult to please everyone because some of our guests stay up late and need the electricity. So now we always ask guests for their preference, generator off or on during the night hours, and act accordingly. Anyone wishing to retire early can request a room far from the generator at the time of booking.

I found these apartments on the internet, and emailed Patricia and Sulayman, the owners, who quickly responded answering all my questions and follow up emails, they like me share a passion for the Gambia, and have built a beautiful secure apartment building in a quiet area on a sandy road off the main highway, not far from the busy Senegambia Strip.Small local shops very close for daily bread and needs. On arrival,me and my Gambian friends(who i had checked with Patricia were OK to visit me freely) were greeted by the friendly Group4 security man Lamin(one of three 24hour security men),and Patricia herself, who was always at hand, living alongside,if i needed anything. The spotless apartments are set in beautiful mature gardens with flowers and fruit trees, all with a lovely cool furnished terrace, inside they are of a good standard, with ensuite bathroom /toilet with hot shower and cold water in the sink, kitchen with gas hob and fridge, with all the basic pots/pans and adequate crockery/cutlery,lounge with multi-channel TV,and roomy bedroom with comfy bed with ceiling fans in both rooms, and mosquito screens up the windows. We had daily power cuts but the generator kicked in when needed, and all praise to the staff who were friendly and good at their jobs,a great relaxing stay, with friendly owners,i would happily return here.
