“Good place for a few nights”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2013

For our short stay in Tahiti, we wanted a hotel that was reasonably close to both Papeete and the airport. After doing some research on the web, we decided to go for the Manava Suite Resort in Punaauia, which is located about 15 minutes from the town centre. The location was good (but if you want to be even closer, you may want to consider the Intercontinental which is literally 5 minutes from the airport) and all together we were quite happy with the hotel.

I suggest you do not book a transfer from the airport, as going there by cab is much cheaper (it is about 2,350 xpf at night and 1,750 xpf during the day, plus 100 xpf per suitcase). No fear of getting scammed, as these are all fixed prices and there is a printout with the tariffs for various destinations at the taxi stand. Keep in mind that if you need a cab very early in the morning (or at night), the prices will be slightly higher.

The Manava has a very nice reception area, modern and smart looking, with a big round fountain in the middle. Checking in was smooth and easy.

Some rooms have views over the lagoon (and Moorea). We did not care about the view, so we booked a Garden Suite which was perfect for us. It had a small equipped kitchenette, a bathroom, a living room with a double sofa bed for the kids and a separate bedroom for us.
We also had a big terrace overlooking the lush gardens.

The room facilities were a bit run down (the walls were dirty and the shower a little mouldy in the corners) and I would not stay here for a full holiday, but it is clean and comfortable enough and I do recommend it for a couple of nights.

The hotel also has free internet via a normal LAN cable so it is good if you are carrying a laptop. Since we had our laptop we did not ask about wireless but it did not appear that they provided free wireless internet.

The hotel has a nice infinity pool with views of Moorea, and a spa which we did not have time to use.

There are also 2 bars and a restaurant (the food was amazing and the reasonably priced for Tahiti). There are also some food trucks (roulottes) just opposite the hotel. We did not try them, but one of the cab drivers we had, highly recommended them.

There is also free parking under the hotel, which was great for us, as we rented a car and did not have to worry about overnight parking.

All together a good place to stay for a few days.

Stayed 4 nights in a Lagoon Suite. Room had warped floor boards from water damage and was a trip hazard. Kitchen area was tiny and could only have one person in there at a time. Buffet for breakfast was very average and staff weren't very friendly in the dining area.
The one friendly staff member was a barman at the Pool Bar, Teiva, who gave exceptional service and was so friendly.
Not very easy to find if you hire a car and no signage for directions. Dead rats floating in the water right near the pool - NOT a good impression

Room Tip: Lagoon rooms give a fantastic view of the reef and ocean

Only a short drive from the airport, Manava suites is clean and the staff very efficient. Our room was a 2 level garden suite with more than enough space and was very quiet. The price was surprisingly reasonable for the accomodations. Decor is contemporary Polynesian. Not much within walking distance except a couple of small places where you can get food. Breakfast buffet was okay, but not great. Would definitely stay there again.

We stayed in two Garden rooms at this resort before heading to Raitea and a sailing holiday.
The resort is about a 10 min drive from the airport but there is nothing to see or do within walking distance. There was a huge queue at check in so it took a while to get our rooms. Internet was only available in the reception and not always reliable. The rooms were big and roomy and the kitchenette was adequate. We were two couples and one teenager and thought that the beds were doubles but they only had twins. When I asked the next day they said they could push them together. The best feature about the resort was the pool area although the downfall in that was there was not enough chairs to lie on in the sand. Breakfast was very expensive and not up to scratch. Better to cross the road and get some baguettes.

My travel agent recommended this place and booked it for my wife and I. Our flight from Honolulu on Hawaiian Airlines arrived very late around 10:30 PM and we were flying out early the next morning so we only spent a few hours in the hotel.

But check-in was a breeze and it was only 10/15 minutes from the airport which was nice after a long flight. The lobby area is huge and there were 2 employees working at night when we arrived. They were polite and we changed over a few hundred dollars here and the exchange rate was better than in Bora Bora so I recommend if you want to exchange you do it here vs. the smaller islands.

Our room was HUGE and it was very modern. It looked to have been recently renovated. The AC worked well (although it took a few minutes to really cool...it would have been nice if they had it turned on prior to arrival).

On the bed they had a heart shaped design made out of fresh flowers which was nice to come to. The bed was fairly comfortable. Nothing over the top but it wasn't lumpy or bad. Although the pillows were horrible. They were too big and it felt like you were using a sofa cushion or something. They need to get decent pillows. That was my only complaint here.

Also, if you are arriving late on a flight I'd recommend you bring some drinks from the airport. They didn't have the store open off the lobby and the restaurant delivery was closed by 11 PM so you don't even have bottled water to purchase. I'd recommend buying some at the airport before you arrive if it's late. A bottle of water would have been nice to have in the room, even if it was for purchase.

The bathroom was very nice with rainfall shower and good water pressure. The toilette was off the hallway and not in the bathroom which is always nice as well. The kitchen was big but we didn't use it at all.

Our room had a balcony with a view of the water. But again we were only in the room for a few hours. I wouldn't have any desire to vacation in this city but I guess if you had to stay it's a nice enough hotel.

They didn't have wi-fi Internet but they did have an Ethernet cable there so you can access the Internet but emails wouldn't send with my Outlook. But I could connect to the Internet (Gmail) and send that way.

All in all a good hotel to overnight.

Ia Orana from Tahiti,

Thank you for your comments on your « short » stay at the Manava Suite Resort Tahiti . We are” pleased to read that even though your stay with us was short it was all in all a good experience .

We’d like to take this occasion to come back on a few informations about our property . It is true that Room service is closed after 11pm but you don’t necessarily need to bring some drinks from the airport if you arrive late at night as all our studios and suites do have a minibar .( We are most sorry that you’ve missed the one in your room , but your room had a minibar fulfilled with drinks (soda and bottles of water)).

Regarding the internet on property , we do have wifi access in the public areas ( main lobby, pool bar and restaurant area ) , we also have two computers available in the lobby to access internet and all the rooms have, as you’ve mentioned , Ethernet cable .

Thank you once again for your comments and your visit .

Maururu roa,

The Management.

Great resort conveniently located close to the airport for Moorea/Bora Bora stopovers or a Tahiti vacation. Excellent facilities and restaurant and great for surfers wanting access to Taapuna nearby. Loved our short stay and hope to visit again soon.

We had a stopover at the Manava Suite Resort Tahiti enroute to Bora Bora. We were impressed by the level of service and the welcome we received. The rooms were nice and clean and stylish, actually we were sad that we didnt stay longer. I liked the welcome decor on the bed that was made out of blades of grass and petals. The infinity pool was so divine, its a pity we didnt get to use it. We had made a great choice. Well done Manava. Will recommend it not only as a stop over but a place to stay in Tahiti. We stayed there in June 2011.
