There for a convention. Very nice quite location with exceptional service. It is a self contained facility removed from the surrounding communities.

With a relative quick trip from Santa Fe or Taos you can walk into history: recent past - Georgia O'Keefe, historic - Wild-West, or pre-historic - dinosaur dig sites. As you walk or drive around the ranch - you can picture yourself in a Georgia O'Keefe painting - the colors are intoxicating. We booked a Thursday only tour of the Dinosaur dig site and were able to spend some very quality time with the resident paleontologist, Alex Downs. An unforgettable experience!

The approach to Ghost Ranch was beautiful. We thought we might have missed it from the south, so called and then drove on a few more miles. We walked part of the Box Canyon trail, but if there was any shade, we never reached it.
We then went on a few miles north to Echo Amphitheater, poorly marked on the left side of the road. That was fun.
From there, took a long drive north to Tierra Amarilla, across east and back south before Taos. A lonely and pretty high-altitude drive; make sure you have enough gas! Used the clean outdoor facilities at a ranger station along the way.

Ghost Ranch is unique. It is situated in a part of New Mexico that has stunning views in every direction. Some of the rooms are very comfortable with private bathrooms. I stayed in one. Others are rustic with shared bathrooms. Camp sites are also available. All are very clean. Do not expect room service, tv, radio or phone. Cell phones do not work on the ranch (except at one spot near a cabin built for the "City Slickers" movie). This is a retreat center, not a luxury hotel. Many activities from scheduled courses to swimming, horse back riding, tours of Georgia O'Keefe landscapes, hiking up mesas and into canyons, rope climbing, ethnography and archaeology museums are available on site. The dining hall is open limited hours (about one hour) for breakfast, lunch and dinner. i would rate the food offerings as average. There are vegetarian options with fresh fruit, salad, and oatmeal (in the morning). Much of the cuisine is tex-mex. The employees are wonderful, friendly and helpful and so are the guests. Newcomers will quickly feel at home. This is the fourth time that I have vacationed at Ghost Ranch and I do not expect it to be my last.

If you arrive by plane in Albuquerque, you will have to take two shuttles to get to Ghost Ranch. They recommend Sandia shuttle from Albuquerque to Santa Fe where the Ghost Ranch shuttle will pick you up. The double shuttle system is a pain. Although I had paid for the Sandia shuttle in advance and they had my name and flight number, I missed the shuttle because they did not give me accurate information as to where to wait for it. I was 40 minutes early and I waited outside of the Southwest baggage claim 3 as instructed. But it turned out that I was to wait inside. I was not told this. There was no announcement of the shuttle when it arrived (a complaint that I heard other Ghost Ranchers express) and you have to carry your luggage quite a distance to reach the van (another common complaint). Once on the van, the drivers in both directions were friendly, courteous and efficient. If only the office had better trained employees, I would have no complaint. In the past, Ghost Ranch sent a shuttle van to the Albuquerque airport to pick people up. That was a much better system.
