Having just returned from the resort a quick review of the place.
Beware its 2.5 hours bumpy ride from the airport in a taxi which isnt good, especially if they book you into a local taxi!
The resort itself is pretty good with a great vantage point above the sea and comfortable and clean bures.
The beach was mud with trucks and diggers working on it..
The diving which we did with Kaiviti Divers was excellent.
The staff on reception were excellent.
The food we found pretty poor and glad we didnt go on a meal plan.no choice and cold and pretty bad all round.
Breakfast was the worst we have had and we are not new to holidays in many countries.
It was expensive and the whole place including the kitchen needs a good shake up with the staff as its a big let down!
Staff are ott in a way with their politeness which doesnt always appear sincere but then they have the christmas fund for tips to think about.
They always seemed to get everyone off to bed early and were way to quick at giving you the bills for drinks and food.
And yes, its a very very quiet place at night with nothing really going on except the local band who are there 7 hours a day and it does get on your nerves after a few days.
Hope I havent put anyone off, but its my review and we just had a very quiet and boring time there.
You have no facilities round the rather dated pool area and everytime you want a drink you have to go and order at the bar as no one can be bothered to give service away from the food area.
Fiji night turns out to be a local night with lots of locals appearing and sort of taking over the night with food being held back for them after all guests have been driven to bed.
So, if you want a real quiet and nothing happening resort with below average food go to Wananava.Enjoy!

Bula! (Hello)
I can't believe it's almost been a year since my husband and I spent an amazing 11 days for our honeymoon at Wananavu Beach Resort. I can not say enough wonderful things about our stay at Wananavu. Wananavu means "wonderful" in Fijian and that is exactly what an experience here is. We had a beachfront bure (#3) and we also had the meal plan. The bure was immaculately clean, simply furnished in an elegant way, and had lots of Fijian charm. My favorite thing about the beachfront bures are the showers. The shower is indoors, but with a rock floor and walls and a full length glass window looking out to a small patio with flowers and vegetation that is enclosed by a fence for privacy, it feels like you are showering outdoors! The beachfront bures have small porches overlooking the ocean with little tables on each. One morning, we chose to have breakfast delivered to our porch and spent a romantic morning waking up and watching the sun sparkle on the turqoise blue waters.
The meal plan was well worth the price. The portions are big and the menu is varied. Although I will admit, after 11 days of eating off the same menu, we were ready for something different. (We asked to see the kid's menu one night and had an interesting Fijian version of a peanut butter and jelly sandwhich and a slice of pizza- great fun and a wonderful memory.) Breakfast is the only meal without a menu. Each morning there is a breakfast buffet with a great variety of breakfast foods (including some of the best frech toast- or maybe it was the syrup- ever. Around 12:30 a drum beats letting you know you have the next 2 hours to go to lunch. Around 6:30 the drums beat again, the ceremonial lighting of the torches occurs and you have until around 9:30 to go up and eat dinner. It's wonderfully relaxed.
Wananavu has plenty of planned activities to keep you busy, but this is a place to come to more to relax than be entertained. We went on a snorkeling trip and had an amazing time. The snorkeling is fine near the resort, but even better a short boat ride away. We also took advantage of the sea kayaks several times. This is a wonderful way to get out onto the water and the reefs make the waves nearly non-existent, so paddling is very easy. One of our favorite adventures was the beach drops. You can request a beach drop any day, just ask the front desk for a picnic lunch and then drop by the activities bure sometime in the morning to tell Evoloni what time you'd like to leave and what time you'd like to come back. Evoloni is an amazingly kind and wonderful man, a wealth of information (don't miss the coconut demonstration) and treats you like an honored family member. He (and everyone at Wananavu) will go out of his way to make sure you have a wonderful time doing practically anything you'd like. Just as a note- Wananavu does not really have a great "beach." The beach that the bures overlooks is a kind of gravel, sand, mud mix. It's beautiful to look at, but not so great to walk on and when the tide is out there are thousands of tiny sand crabs scurrying around on it. This was never a problem for us as when we wanted to dig our toes into the sand we'd just take the short boat ride away (maybe 5-7 minutes) to the island across from the resort and have not only a beach, but practically a whole island to ourselves. (Ask about One beach. Prounounced o-nay. From what we learned it has been bought by Hilton and thus the resort can no longer use it, but at the time we were there this wasn't yet enforced and if you asked very nicely they would take you there. It's gorgeous and has the best sand. Sadly, it may no longer be an option.)

I could go on and on about the resort itself, but what truly makes this resort amazing is it's people. The Fijian people are truly some of the friendliest and genuinely kind and generous people I have ever met in my life. The staff at Wananavu treat you not only like honored guests, but also like family. They go out of thier way to make your experience at Wananavu amazing and everything you wanted it to be. From the driver who picks you up at the airport (Sam) to the bar and restaurant staff (Lumba, Ovini, and Ma to name a few) to the wonderful Wananavu boys who serenade you each day and night at meals, the people at Wananavu are the best part of the experience. I cried the day we left because I knew I would truly miss these wonderful people.

I would recommend this wonderful resort to anyone, but please keep in mind that this is not the Westin. The sand is not shipped in, their is natural island vegetation (that is extremely well manicure) instead of unnatural grass, there are not huge fountains or 5 heated pools, no in room televisions, radios, or phones and no exciting nightlife. I have stayed at many different types of hotels and resorts from 5 star Westin resorts to the Motel 6 and I would still classify this resort as luxury accomodations and by far the best customer service I have ever had anywhere. However, if you are looking for internet hook-ups, an ipod player in your room and a night on the town every night- definately look somewhere else!
I have included some photos from our trip. We have TONS, so if you want to see more, just send me a message and I can email them to you. I know when we were planning our trip, the candid traveler photos were very helpful in making our decisions on where to go. I took lots of Wananavu because at the time we went there were hardly any on tripadvisor for this resort.

Thank you Wananavu for the best honeymoon we could ever have dreamed for. We will hopefully be back in the future! Vinaka!

  • Liked — The amazing people and staff at Wananuva. Best customer service anywhere.
  • Disliked — I liked everything about our trip. However, if you're looking for perfect sand outside your door, this is not the best resort for that.

We got married at Wananavu a week ago and it was absolutely perfect! We wanted a private and romantic wedding and this was definitely the right place.
First of all, there are no words to describe the kindness and hospitality shown by the staff...they are incredible and I miss them already!
The place is stunning and there are lots of activities you can enjoy while staying at Wananavu (they change the activities every day so you'll have plenty of options)
If you want to see nice beaches, you can kakay (free) to the nearby islands and do some wonderful snorkelling! (my favourite activity)
You can also visit one of the villages and enjoy a fantastic natural slide (see pics)
The bures are very beautiful and clean. They have good air conditioners along with netted windows which stopped any mosquitos and bugs coming inside ...
They let us stay in one of the "beach front" bures on our wedding day and they are amazing!!! If you can afford to stay in one of those, just go for it!!! (they are a lot more expensive than garden or ocean front bures but so worth it!)
I could go on and on, but the best advice I can give is don't hesitate to book this hotel !!! You won't regret it.
A+++++++

We went to Wananavu for our honeymoon with our 18 month old son. We got the package which included meals. The food was lovely and great value. Babysitting was $4 au per hour so we had a couple of afternoons to ourselves, which was great. Even when we hadn't got a babysitter, the dining staff would entertain him and take him up to the barman for a cherry or two so that we could eat in peace, fantastic!!! They couldn't do enough for us and they love kids. It was a lovely relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings and we met lots of nice people. The spa is heavenly, on a hilltop with beautiful fresh air coming through the big windows while you have your treatments. We only wish we had booked on wotif and saved over $1000, rather than going through a travel agent.

Lovely friendly staff - very easy to deal with.

Food was enjoyable. They had lunch, snack, dinner, kids and dessert menus to choose from as well dedicated nights with Lovo meals. Room rate included breakfast charge.

Happy hour 5.30 - 6.30 with half price cocktails.

Themed nights: Wednesday Lovo and Fijian dancers - Sunday BBQ

Lovely rooms with fans and air conditioning. No phones, radios, clock or TV's in the rooms.

Very relaxing place to stay. They love kids. Staff a very accommodating "ask and in most cases you will receive"

After staying at a luxury resort that wasn't up to snuff, we had low expectations for our cheaper booking at Wananavu. Instead, we were delighted with our room and resort.

The beachfront bure has a perfect view of the water and islands. Hammocks and loungers are steps from our little patio. I was a bit surprised to discover our bure was actually a duplex, but that wasn't
a problem. The joining wall is the bathroom and we never heard or saw
them during our 7 day stay. They have very well placed foliage so you
do not see the neighbors on their patio. The bathroom is actually prettier than the pictures; we liked it better than the outdoor shower at a different resort.

They need a clothesline in the bathroom to hang up your wet things. When we asked for one, they said "oh we don't have that." We ended up spreading out all our stuff across our patio, which looked junky. Also, the bures should have larger beds. I think it was somewhere between an American full (double) and a queen size.

The food was pretty good, although one meal we and our dining companions had very undercooked hamburgers and a salad that came out as a stir fry.

The cultural activities were very good: waterfall/village tour, talks, meke, lovo pit. The snorkeling was pretty good, as was the castaway beach trip.

On the other hand, the beach is not inviting: muddy and cloudy. And we didn't swim in it at all. Essentially, you have to pay to go to another beach to get to swim. The pool is OK, but not as beautiful as
the pics.

The lobby and restaurant at the top of the hill are lovely. We really
enjoyed the happy hour prices and sunset views from the open deck.

  • Liked — Beautiful sunsets and facilities
  • Disliked — Lame beach in comparison to nearby whitesand beaches

We stayed in a 2 bedroom villa with its own kitchen. It was clean and tidy. It had its own verandah with view to the ocean. The beach is not the white sand type but water is very nice. We went kayaking which is availabe free of charge and you can see different corals and fish in the water. Overall it is a very relaxing place with hammocks everywhere to relax in and plenty of privacy.
