“Too far from town”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 11, 2014

I stayed here a while ago in 2006 and while the accomodation was good and the pool lovely, it was far too far from the main town ( Nandi) and it cost a fortune in taxis. There was not a lot to do and the beach was horrible!!! Yes you have to hike up a huge hill to get to the reception and breakfast area(, a bit hard first thing in the morning). I would not stay here again. The staff were nice, but I would not stay here again , simply because they had no transport!

Room Tip: All rooms ok, but you have to walk up a huge hill.

Bula Jennie,
Thanks for your review. In the 8 years since you stayed with us there have been numerous developments at the property. If you stayed with us in 2006, the 'downstairs' part of the resort would have been barely completed. We have been offering guests complimentary transfers to/from Lautoka and Nadi for many years and whilst you may perceive that the property is too far from town, the majority of guests like the fact that we are conveniently located halfway between Nadi and Lautoka.

This is an inexpensive, quiet hotel if you need to stay a night before or after a cruise. It is about halfway between Nadi (airport) and Lautoka (port). It has a nice pool, but contrary to the name, no beach for swimming, only a pier for boats. The staff was very friendly. The rooms on top of the hill have a beautiful view of the tropical garden from the veranda, and of the ocean from the front door. The seaside restaurant was good, with live music. The room could be maintained better: the sliding doors (between the bedroom and the veranda as well as between the bathroom and the bedroom) could not be closed completely because they were misaligned. Glass surfaces (mirrors and sliding doors) were dirty.

Stayed at Anchorage, taking friends who had never ventured into the islands before. They wanted a quiet resort, close to the sea, that was affordable and child friendly - they couldn't have made a better choice.
We all had a ball - the rooms are large, the staff were great, and it's the only resort I've been to where we could leave our fishing rods against the wall of the dining room as we had breakfast!! Very Nice!!

Room Tip: 2nd room from the bottom of the hill is under a Flame Tree - gave excellent natural shade

A lovely space for us to run our class at the top of the hill in the Bula Bar which was the main restuarant until they built the restuarant cafe downstairs near the shore and pool.
Staff were friendly & immediately responded to all our requests and needs.
Food was good. We felt very welcomed and looked after.
Music in the evenings was well liked especially the trio on staff singing a mixtures of covers and Fijian Songs Fijian Style.
Anything we could think of was easily taken care of.
We had a sing on the last night and a number of staff joined us. Then at the end the whole staff came out and sang. Such giving and generous souls at this place.
We would highly recommend this place as a relaxing destination. Not far from Nadi airport. Not far from Loutoka which we liked much more than Nadi.
It's recently been taken over by new owners and they are doing a very good job and are very open to feedback and immediately respond. Enjoyed looking across the bay with panoramic viewsnear the shore and from up top is mountains and bay are stunning.
A great place for a group retreat.

Room Tip: It was good having rooms at the bottom near the restaurant. Loutoka is well worth an explore.

I was so excited to be going to Fiji finally and the photos of our hotel were very attractive! We knew it wasnt a five star hotel/resort but still looked forward to 'lazing' away with good food and surroundings at the resort.
First let me say the Fijian staff were AMAZING!!!! Wonderful friendly people with no 'agenda', they just are who they are!
Second, the photos were very clever and not truly representative of your 'beach'. Swim in the pool not the sea here. The oil refinery is less than five mins away and their presence has changed the water and the beach to a muddy brown colour. Ugggh.
Third: The quality of the food in the restaurant was very changeable, you could have a good meal one night and two truly horrible meals the next couple of nights. I got the impression the cook is related to the owner/manager and therefore cannot be coerced into getting cooking lessons. Such a shame because GREAT meals would make the tattiness less important !!!
Fourth: And whoever wrote that the rooms are clean needs some glasses methinks.....they get a wipeover but glasses and cups and shower doors etc are definitely not clean.
Note of interest:
I was very surprised to hear that the amenities (including the pool) at the bottom of the hill were only built in 2004 because they are quite tatty. Significant numbers of tiles missing from the pool and doorways in the Oceanview rooms are rotting out already. There appears to be no interest from the Australian owner (who lives above the resort) in maintaining the property his father started. Perhaps they have plans to rip it all down and start again in the future....i look forward to seeing what transpires.
Fifth: As far as eating is concerned, thank goodness there are two restaurants close by (five mins drive or twenty minute walk) that have the most fantastic food at very similar prices.
Sixth: the entertainment put on was fantastic
Seventh: the boat trip to Beachcomber Island was awesome
Eighth: Make sure you go to the Garden of the Sleeping Giant AND the Mudbaths (up Wailolo Road)
RECOMMENDATION: If you are happy with mediocre backpacker type accommodation, then this is the place for you. If you prefer a little more care and attention paid to your surroundings then go to a fourstar hotel. If you really love LUXURY then go to Denarau Island and stay somewhere beautiful.

Room Tip: Mountain view and ocean view rooms have lovely comfy beds. The villas have futons which are not so...

The staff here were incredible. So humble and lovely and would do anything to make myself and my friends feel welcome. The place is a little tired however always clean and a nice place to wake up in every morning. The food at the restaurant was yummy and having the little spa pool on the balcony of my room outside was so nice. Great little place to stay. Also try the day trip to Beachcomber Island that leaves from the hotel regularly, its lovely.

Thanks for posting another great review. We are very pleased to hear that you found the food to be yummy and that the Beachcomber Day Trip was lovely.
One of the most repeated comments is that the staff here are wonderful, indeed they are our greatest asset and we pass on feedback from guests when we receive it.
