“Daku is da COOLEST!!!”
Reviewed June 19, 2014

Just came back from two weeks in fascinating Fiji, having spent ten nights at Daku Resort. Fiji itself is phenomenal--the Fijian people are SO gracious, warm, and friendly; the weather in June was PERFECT--not too hot, not too much rain; the sea is SPECTACULAR--clear turquoise with the most abundant coral, fish, and other colorful sea creatures of various shapes, sizes, and designs! And nothing dangerous!

At Daku Resort, we had ALL of the above, plus a lovely bungalow of our own (a bure') with a view of the sea from our back deck, both a fan and AC; it was cleaned fastidiously every day, which included refreshing the beautiful flower arrangement!. Wonderful shower--powerful, hot, and big enough for two! Daku provided exceptional meals--three a day--that were both healthy and gourmet, as well as an open bar. At dinner we sat with Delia and JJ, the charming proprietors, as well as the other Daku guests who were interesting and intelligent. Daku Resort's location is within walking distance to snorkeling (at the foot of the driveway) and village shops.

Delia and JJ arranged memorable activities for us including snorkeling, hiking, yoga, and visits to other parts of Vanua Levu. My favorite was a visit to a Fijian village, where we were welcomed with coconut water, fresh fruit, flower leis (Fijian style), and a sacred kava ceremony. Then the villagers sang and danced for us! It was spectacular!

Our whole Daku experience was unforgettable! I felt I was in a dream!! I was sorry to leave and I'd go back in a heartbeat!

Not sure how to login and this review is by Henry from Hong Kong

1st surprise: JJ - owner of the resort, actually came to the savusavu airport and pick me up and give me a warm welcome even without me asking and telling him which flight I was on from Nadi!

2nd surprise: Every night, JJ and Delia would host a long table with all the guests having dinner together! Its such an amazing experience, you really get know the other guests deeply through all the the toasts and chit chats

3rd surprise:Shoulder dislocation: The first night I arrived I was so inspired by the Fiji scenery and weather, I did some really extreme yoga stretching and dislocated my shoulder, I was admitted to the hospital and the doctor somehow could not fixed it for 9 hours!!!

4th surprise: The quality of the guests! - the next morning when all guests knew that I have a shoulder dislocation, one of the guests was actually a shoulder doctor!! He came and fix me in just 5 minutes with no extra pain added!!!

I would definitely recommend Daku for anyone who does not just want to stay in a hotel/resort in Fiji, but really want to have an amazing experience!

One star deducted because of my shoulder dislocation on the first night ;-)

Everything one could want from a Fiji vacation, and much more! As a couple, and part of a 5-day "Oxbridge Forum," we found wonderful hospitality and made great friends at the same time. The staff and proprietors went out of their way to look after their guests, and did so because they were genuinely interested in helping their guests in have the best of times, and in getting to know them.

Fantastic scenery, accommodations, snorkeling, and friendly Fijians. Treasured memories.

Room Tip: The ocean-facing Bures are ideal for couples.

One hears a lot about how friendly the people of Fiji are, but "friendly" doesn't quite convey it. There is a warmth and an openness of spirit greater than any I have ever encountered anywhere else in the world. The owners of Daku, Delia and JJ, have created a place which captures and exemplifies this wonderful Fijian spirit. You feel welcome the moment you arrive, and by the time you depart, you feel you are leaving old and dear friends. Meals - which are delicious and fresh - are served at a communal table, where everyone eats together with much laughter and conversation. (You could, of course, eat alone if you preferred.) It seems that nothing is too much trouble for Delia and JJ, and their courteous staff, to ensure your comfort and well-being. And all of this in gardens like an earthly paradise. My visit to Daku will remain one of those memories that glows in the mind and can be revisited with pleasure forever.

Room Tip: We were in bure 9, which has a veranda with a spectacular view of the bay - perfect for watching the...

Thrilled to have experienced the warm hospitality at Daku Resort - we stayed recently for a week long yoga retreat and had a wonderful time. The staff were chatty, helpful, and had ever-present smiles to offer, the owners of Daku (JJ and Delia) take a personal interest in each guest and provide entertaining dinner conversations, the grounds were well-maintained and all the facilities - snorkels, pool, games, yoga area etc, excellent.

We enjoyed the fresh, tasty food, especially the 'rotating' dinner table - in a new location each night!

The showers are huge with great pressure, and we had daily swims out to the pontoon with beautiful coral and brightly coloured fish all around.

As always, it's the people who make a place and the awesome team at Daku are the reason we're already looking forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: The bures from 3 onwards are all further away from the main dining area and a bit quieter.

We came to Daku in May 2014 for a one-week Yoga retreat and had a fabulous time. The resort is conveniently situated within walking distance of SavuSavu and a few minutes drive from the airport.

The resort is tidy and tranquil with lush gardens and 100 year+ coconut trees characteristic of Fiji. It features it's own pool, beach volleyball net, restaurant, yoga platform, massage platform, Kayaks, Snorkeling and much more. The Bures are facing into lush wide-open gardens with Ocean view and have everything they need.

The rooms were thoughtfully serviced daily. E.g. the fan was switched on, enough tablets for the insect regulating device are available, the window blinds are half down, the flower arrangements are refreshed.

Most of the staff come from nearby villages and treated our group as part of their family. The warmth and kind-heartedness with which we were included is what really makes Daku special. The moment we arrived we felt part of the place. Its wide smiles, delicious food and genuine family atmosphere made us feel relaxed and comfortable. In the evenings, everyone eats together so you get to know people and owners of the resort.

Our days were pretty relaxed. Yoga in the mornings and evenings combined with a snorkelling, swimming or reading in the afternoons. If that's too relaxed, the owners are more than happy to arrange various activities. We went on a boat outing to a private beach and did some snorkelling at a reef across the bay which had terrific sea life and colourful corrals.

In short, this place is fantastic value for money!

Room Tip: If in doubt, ask the owners JJ and Delia - they care

Had a very interesting and fun stay at Daku resort. The owners are great company and very welcoming and the staff friendly and warm. I loved the communal dinners and relaxing poolside. Towns is a 30min waterfront walk away, and there is great diving and snorkelling. If you want a genuine Fijian experience without the commercialism of other resorts I highly recommend Daku resort.

Room Tip: The solo bure would be quieter then the rooms behind the pool as they have thin walls.
