I found Moody's Nemana Resort here on Trip Advisor while looking for a tropical, secluded location for our honeymoon and definately was not disappointed.

Some of the highlights were 10 incredible scuba dives all within about 15 minutes by boat from their dock, beautiful views from our burre looking out over the ocean, warm (80's) weather in the middle of their winter, great accomodation of our vegetarian diet at the communal meals...just to name a few. The Moody's staff are all local Fijians which helps the local economy. The staff were very friendly and professional, especially the dive staff.

The dive staff were careful to check out our newly acquired scuba diving skills and let us familiarize ourselves with the rental dive gear(via a shore dive) prior to doing boat dives on their reef. I had heard it was some of the best diving in the world, I don't have much to compare it to being a new diver but it was like what you see on National Geographic programs on TV....incredible hard and soft coral, amazing numbers of fish, reef sharks, turtles, barracuda, blue ribbon eels (saw 1), leaf fish, lion fish and on and on. Safety stops on top of the bommies were the best :)

The island is about a mile long and maybe 1/5th of it has been "developed" with dirt roads leading to the burres which are quite nicely spaced so as to always feel like you have your own area. Meals are a fun time to get together with everyone which are likely to be from all over the world. When we were there we had couples from Australia, Germany and the US there. Several of the couples were repeat customers, we'll be joining that group soon hopefully.

Loved it, highly recommended for those looking for a non-resort experience.

  • Liked — The seclusion of each burre.
  • Disliked — Short showers due to limited supply of fresh water.
  • Tips/Secrets — Get certified to scuba dive before going, it was an incredible experience.

This place is awesome. I couldn't believe we were able to get one of the six bures at all, even more amazed that there were only two other couples when we got there, just us when we left. I guess people are afraid to take a chance on so isolated a place; I just wish we hadn't wasted so much time and money on the Yasawas first and had just gone straight to Moody's. (Not that the Yasawas don't have their charms, but Moody's is exactly the experience you were thinking about when you thought "Wouldn't it be nice to go to Fiji...")
The diving there is mind blowing, the food great, the company outstanding and the smiles genuine. Even if you don't dive but are looking for a relaxing natural experience away from the crowds this is the place. One of the other couples that was there with us was on their third or fourth visit; it's that kind of a place, unique in the world.
I read some of the other reviews talking about mosquitos and spiders; there are a few mosquitos at dusk, but really not many given the lack of still water on the island, it's relative isolation and the trade winds. Really not a problem at all, more so elsewhere in Fiji. And I never saw a single spider the whole week we were there.

Stayed here for a week with my wife in June 2006. Moody's was exactly what we expected it to be but it may not be for other travellers....

There's no pool, television, radio, or electricity. You are on a wild little island in the middle of the sea so there are mosquitos, spiders, birds and bats - everywhere! You need to walkaround to get everywhere. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are at communical tables with the owners and or other guests.

If you don't like what you've read so far then Moody's is not for you.

There are six spacious "bures" (houses) situated well away from each other. The one we stayed at was on the cliffside and had spectacular views of the see and the mainsland (on a clear day). There's a wraparound deck 5 large doors that open to catch the breezes. Our Bure had a large bed (with Mosquito netting) and TWO (2) bathrooms with a shared shower.

The design and construction of the Bure's is absolutely ingenious. They are self-sufficient and use rainwater for drinking water and salt water for the toilets. The heater for the water is powered by gas as are the gas lights. There are small electric reading lights and a fan which appear to be solar powered.

The meals were good and varied and were served in a large Bure (the Club House). We spent our days at the beaches, kayaking, hiking, and diving. The island is small so you can get walk from one end to the other in an hour or two and there are several small sandy beaches (mostly tidal so big parts of the beach dissappear at high tide).

The diving is absolutely spectacular. It's close to the island and very relaxed. The dive crew is excellent. They know the dive sites and each dive was effortless in terms of getting to the site and back on the boat.

Highly recommended.

This is may be the last place on earth where you can still find truly unspoiled natural beauty. The remote location and charmingly dated accommodation ( gas lamps ) make you feel like you are vacationing in a lost world where time has stood still and for the better.
The snorkeling or scuba is unsurpassed, the food delicious and the hosts most interesting and gracious.
This resort is not for people who want to be entertained, its for lovers of nature and lovers.

we went there sept. 2004. loved it, loved it. it's not for people who want luxury - more like upscale camping - but it was a wonderful honeymoon. joan and tom are great. the staff is great and i wanted to take the cook home with me. only six bures on the island and only two other couples were there when we were so we were almost always alone on the beach. amazing views. amazing snorkling. only down sides were the mosquitos and the boat ride there.
