If you find yourself in Labasa Fiji, the Grand Eastern is a great place to stay. Simple, nice, clean hotel. Comfortable beds and great staff, mostly business travelers, bar and restaurant on site. You will want to have a little tolerance for the sugar cane train, as the tracks are right in front of the hotel (and through most of town) the train operates at all times and the whistle on the train sounds whenever they go by. Not loud enough to be a problem an after a few days it was a simple reminder of the islands main industry.

Room Tip: Rooms on the pool side opposite the main building might be less impacted by the light train whistle

I liked this place. Walk-in price was $85 for a Standard room, $110 for Deluxe, which I selected. It was on the pool, pool is stone-colored, kidney shaped, nicely unheated. I was only there for one night and didn't want to hunt for a decent place to eat, and found they had good food. Had the spagetti carbonara. They blended up a fruit drink for me. Bar has nice bamboo atmosphere.
Close access to the river and market activities. This is a third-world town, saw a bad car accident involving pedestrians, I assume you are just passing through.

Best hotel to stay when in Labasa, staff friendly and helpful.
Would recommend to any type of traveller a cool oasis to put up ones feet in the heat of
the Labasa town.
