Julie, Robin and the entire Nakia family really do work at making this place feel like home. Individually catering to your needs is what make it so special, and the fact that they can only accommodate 4 families. THeir keen involvement in the community, low carbon footprint, and full-time presence at the resort means you are staying with people who are wholeheartedly invested.
If you go out diving at their affiliated dive resort, I dare you to come up with more air than the resort owner, Robin!

Though its not obvious- they do have a little beach across the road that can be enjoyed at low tide. However- if you want to slide over the reef to see some fish life (not as brilliant as the offshore diving)- get down there on high tide. You can stay at Nakia, and not see any other part of the island-- experience the magazine Fiji. Or you can go explore and get to see the real Fiji; the family will ensure you get to where you want to go.

Oh and their food and freshly made fruit juice is to die for.

Room Tip: The best and most private views are from the sunset bure. The garden bure is nice, though you may he...

Wow. This was as perfect as it gets. I have nothing but good things to say about the little piece of heaven that Robyn, Jim, and their daughter Julie have created here on Tavenui island in Fiji. Where shall I start? It begins with a friendly pick up from the airport, a drive down (15 minutes to the resort), and then a quick orientation. A smoothie made from fruit from there garden is quickly followed by another drink of choice--a Fiji Bitter beer. Our group of 7 friends were all easily accomodated in the "family" bure. Mosquito nets and fans kept the bugs off of us, and the views from our front porch were superlative. Every day we would be greeted by the most genuinely friendly staff as Titi, Francis, Estelita, Ron (and others!?!) would cheerfully prepare us homemade breakfast. Then we were off to snorkel/dive on some of the best reefs on the planet....only a 20 minute boat ride away. We would come home for a divine organic lunch (fish tacos! chicken salad in papaya!), and then those who wanted to would go for a second dive while others would lay by the pool. Dinner and drinks and desert (all magnificent and often made from ingredients in their large garden) and a card game and we would be off to bed, in time to get up and repeat again. I can't say enough about the staff at this resort. Their service was better than I have seen at many "5 star" resorts like the Hyatt in Hawaii. I mean that. They knew all our names, meal preferences, and which couple was with who within an hour of us being there. They memorized our coffee, egg, and bacon preferences--who asks how you want your bacon prepared!?!--THEY DO! To top if off, ALL the staff invited us to a kava ceremony. This wasn't a dorky ceremony prepared for tourists at a resort, this was just all of them playing guitar, laughing, and drinking their favorite drink....and they genuinely wanted us to join them. It was humbling. Here is who shouldn't go to Nakia: stuck up rich folks. Why? Because, A), I don't think they want you. B) I don't want to hear you complaining about something trivial. Nakia is for real people, it's run be real people, and I wish them the best of success.

Room Tip: The family bure has the best view.

The location is amazing. Jim, Robyn and Julie and their staff make you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. They are all attentive without being intrusive. Nothing was a problem for them. The snorkelling on Rainbow Reef was spectacular.

Everyone knows your name and each daily greeting from staff is so genuine. From the staff to the owners Jim, Robyn and Julie nothing is a problem. We have had nine spectacular days and nights and sadly it's past in the blink of an eye. Food, accommodation, snorkelling, diving ... everything is simply amazing.

And yes, the people of Taveuni are the happiest people on the planet.

If you are looking for a chilled, professional, spectacular, tranquil, beautiful, tasty, 'no worries', happy, content and amazing experience then this is the right place!

Wonderful resort - great location, resources (diving, biking, swimming, games), amazing food and friendly, pleasant staff.

First - the food! I am a Vegan and the resort accommodated all my food requirements. They were so great to make the meals different each day also. it wasn't just a salad at every meal. The dive instructor and owner even jumped in to make hummus! My family also loved the food - steak tacos, fish - the Fijian food and curries - delicious. They also make amazing fruit smoothies! All from their organic garden!

Diving & Swimming - the diving staff - Julie, Tawake, Ronnie - all were so wonderful - friendly and knowledgable. Julie has been an instructor for 15 years + and it shows. She takes the time to explain it all to your prior and go over all the rare, colorful sea life that Fiji and the world-renowned Rainbow Reef has to offer. It is truly a gift to dive in Taveuni, Fiji..

We rode bikes around the island, did the beautiful Bouma National Heritage Park - Waterfall hike. It was fun to rock jump at the lower waterfall - and we felt like we were in "The Jungle Book" hiking up to the middle falls.

The Fijian people and culture are held intact in Fiji and particularly at Nakia. The care is genuine and the atmosphere at Nakia is relaxing and magical.

I can't wait to get back.

We spent 4 nights at Nakia with our 3 teenagers as part of our 3 week Fiji holiday. This is our second time to Taveuni, and my husband and I wanted to bring the kids.

Nakia is a small resort and you very quickly start to feel like your staying with family. Nothing is too much trouble for the friendly staff. We unfortunately didn’t get to meet Robin but Jim and Julie were great hosts.

We stayed in the somosomo bure, which is comfortable and spacious with great views of the ocean. The meal package was good value for money and food was fresh and homemade after being picked from the garden or sourced locally, and I came away with a handful of some of their delicious recipes.

My husband is an avid scuba diver and rates Taveuni Ocean Dive as being one of the best dive operations. Diving the Rainbow reef is the highlight of his Fiji trip. I don’t dive but Julie and Viti’s enthusiasm has made me think I might go back and learn. I enjoyed the many other activities around the Island. Taveuni is untouched and a beautiful part of the world.
Lavena Coastal walk is a must and Simone is the best guide.

If you appreciate personalized service with friendly staff, great snorkelling and diving, and beautiful grounds this eco-friendly resort that is a model of sustainability is worth visiting.
