“Rainbow Reef”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2014

We spent a week with Paradise Taveuni to dive the Rainbow Reef, and we were not dissapointed. We had three tank dives each day to the reef (40 minutes away in good weather), with an hour or so picnic lunch on a secluded beach before the third dive. The reef is amazing. When we tried to see the Great White Wall "open" in the correct current, the staff woke up a few hours earlier to get us there in time, before the tide and current changed. All of the dive staff is exceptional and very helpful. While the diving is not as good at the Vuna Reef (on the Taveuni side), the house reef is fun and has a number of surprises of its own (e.g., blue ribbon eel, leaf fish, etc.). The Rainbow Reef is everything all of the magazines and blogs depict, and more. Truly the soft coral capital of the world.

The staff is amazing throughout the resort. Ownership has clearly instilled in each of them a need to make each and every guest feel important and a part of their family. You will be greeted by name from day one, and if available, all of your needs will be met. We thought the food was way above average; especially in light of the remoteness of the island and lack of provisions.

Stay at Paradise Taveuni, you will not be disappointed.

I had the pleasure of staying here for one week; due to unforeseen circumstances I had to cut my trip early. If I had had the choice, I could have stayed here forever! Where to begin?

Taveuni itself is a gorgeous island, but Paradise builds on this 100x over. Everything is green, you walk through the property under banana trees, flowers, landscaped paths. The main area of the resort opens up to breathtaking views of the ocean and their house reef. It honestly feels as if you are walking around in awe the entire trip. I heard so much about walking five seconds away from your bure to go snorkeling and seeing an octopus!

The accommodation is first class. The staff does a wonderful job at keeping the area clean; every day I walked into my bure it had been tidied up and included turn down service where they drew the mosquito nets and lit a coil. The bathroom was just amazing; very modern and westernized. I was able to take a hot bath for the first time in months!!! There are also outdoor showers as well as an outdoor jacuzzi. The bed is huge and comfortable, and the living area is perfect for socializing or just reading a book alone.

The food. Oh my goodness. The food!!!! Allan is a chef by trade and that shows through the extensive menu at Paradise. There is everything you could ever dream of having! Such an array of fruits, delectable deserts, perfect portions. I could go on. Fiji night had some chicken, spinach, and stuffed eggplant that could make your mouth water for days. I had a cajun chicken salad for lunch one day and for starters, it was huge, and the chicken was cooked to absolute perfection! I am from the South and can vouch that a properly done cajun recipe is hard to come by. There is always a cocktail special here, which is ALWAYS delicious.

The staff are a dream. Sepo always has the best stories! They serenade you, they include you, they befriend you. It was an absolute pleasure getting to know them and be around them.

I could not recommend this place more!

Room Tip: They are all beautiful, you can't go wrong!

I recently got married and decided to take my wife for a honeymoon to Paradise Taveuni. We stayed for 4 nights. And what a good decision I had made!!

Paradise Taveuni was beautiful from the outset and everyone is made to feel welcome and relaxed. The Bures are very comfortable and the beds are divine! There are many opportunities to do activities such as Bouma waterfalls trips, natural water slides, hiking or snorkeling trips (Rainbow reef was the highlight). The water is crystal clear with magnificently colored reef fish and soft corals.

The food is "Five Star" with a menu to suit any taste. Everything is freshly prepared from the daily baked breads to the local vegetables and fresh meats. You can also decide your own private dining location and there are many you can choose from.

But, as with any vacation spot, it is the staff who can really make or break a resort. From the managers to the night security walker to the driver, everyone never miss an opportunity to say hello or inquire as to how your trip is going and they never stop smiling! They love the fact that you are visiting and do utmost to help serve you.

This place is true value for money and exceeds the cost in so many ways. Thank you all for making our stay in Paradise a memorable one.

Absolute bliss from beginning to end. The staff are beautiful souls who made us feel so welcome from the minute we arrived. Accommodation was perfect - if you want something better than your average 'resort' - this is it. We were in Paradise to attend a wedding, lucky for us. The staff made it much more of a special occasion by their attention to detail and anticipation of every need.
We cant wait until our next visit, as much to see new friends as to experience the peace, tranquility and beauty of what must be the best kept secret on Taveuni. Thanks Terri, Alan and your beautiful staff xxx Yvonne A.

Our stay at Paradise was just that PARADISE! From our arrival at the Taveuni airport, we were made to feel welcome and appreciated. Our driver was a happy fellow who provided lots of information about the island. We stopped at a local market and bought some bananas while he shopped for produce for the resort. We were treated to a “back massage” by way of the bumpy road to the resort, but the beauty of the island and the banter with driver made it fun. Upon arrival at the resort we were welcomed with a tour of the resort and a coconut milk foot massage.

Our lovely ocean front bure (boo-ray) was wonderful with a mosquito netted bed, ceiling and portable fans, an indoor shower and an outdoor shower and Jacuzzi (which wasn’t working despite their good efforts to fix it.) The staff is the real gem of the resort. From arrival to departure and every minute in between, we were greeted by name, well taken care of, entertained and genuinely made to feel that they were glad we were there.

Specifically, we were to spend one week at Paradise on Taveuni and one week at Matava on Kadavu. However, Fiji Airways (the local government run airline) decided to change our flight from Taveuni to Nadi to one day later and our flight from Nadi to Kadavu to one day earlier…impossible. They also cancelled our flight from Kadavu back to Nadi on the last day and changed it to a day earlier. If this is confusing to you, imagine how it would feel to learn all this on the first day of the vacation you’ve been planning your whole life. Fortunately, Alan, the owner of Paradise, was absolutely amazing at sorting all this out for us. While we were enjoying some amazing diving with the Paradise Dive team, he was working out all the details of communicating with our travel agent and making adjustment to our reservations not only at the other resort but also getting us set up for an unexpected night in Nadi on our last night. Each night or morning, Alan would give us the choices of what could be done and then he would personally see to it that the arrangements were made. We were never concerned or worried as we know Alan was taking care of everything.

We enjoyed a traditional lovo feast on Fiji night, and participated in a number of Cava ceremonies…if you didn’t try the cava, you haven’t been to Fiji…as the locals say. Daily breakfasts included fresh fruit in coconut milk. Lunch was ordered at breakfast each day unless we were having a picnic lunch on a secluded white sand beach in between dives. Dinner varied between individual tables and long tables for a group dinner with all the resort guests. We were also able to arrange for a romantic private ocean front dinner at a variety of locations.

We took a 2-hour cultural walk with Sepo, who walked us down to the nearby primary school and told us wonderful stories of the island and Fijian history. As a school teacher myself, this was wonderful for me. Longer tours to local villages and a waterfall are also available as are horseback riding, wild boar hunting and deep sea fishing. We spent two and half hours deep sea fishing and netted 7 14-16 kg yellow fin tuna…delicious sashimi for everyone and tuna steaks for dinner that night.

The open air ocean front spa was delightful and the luxury spa package was very reasonable. We pampered ourselves with sugar scrubs, banana leaf wraps, facials and 80 minute massages.
I can’t believe I haven’t told you about the diving, yet! Rainbow Reef was beautiful and the white wall is a must see if the tide is right. People we met later at the other resort said they had to contend with strong currents at white wall but we did not have that experience at all. We did need to go down to about 80-100 feet to get the true effect of the white wall and those that stayed shallower did not report as good an experience. We saw anemone fish (Nemo), sharks, octopus, blue ribbon eels, barracuda and lots of beautiful soft coral. A night dive allowed us to see slipper lobster, octopus and a juvenile eel. The boat/dive team was wonderful and helpful and provided banana cake and fresh pineapple and coconut during surface intervals. Water temperature in June was a comfortable 79 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than the mid-70 degree temps at Kadavu the following week.

All in all, we cannot wait to return to Paradise. A real gem in the South Pacific.

Paradise Taveuni is exactly that. The resort is beautiful. I went with the dive group from Southwest Aqua Sports and, according to the local media, we were the largest dive group to ever go to Taveuni. By the second day, the ENTIRE staff knew all of our names. Alan and Teri were amazing hosts and made sure that our every want or need within reason was realized. I even made a comment one day about wanting a shirt made out of some of the sarong fabric that they had and Teri found a local woman who made me the shirt! The food was amazing. The Diving was superb. The rooms well kept and all with amazing views. I only hope that one day I am able to get back there.
