We were part of a group (24) who booked this dive resort a year in advance. In that time the management changed and while we had, for the most part, a very good time, it seemed that we were being nickled and dimed to death! The package was to be "all inclusive" yet, the night dive that was scheduled, suddendly was an extra $75. We decided to cancel that and then suggested a shore dive, which became an extra $35.we skipped that too. We were quoted several different prices when trying to book the resort van and driver for a trip to the triple water falls. First it was $168, then it went to $240. and finally $360. We decided to engage a local taxi which was $200. and there was no set hours. If you decide to go, use local taxi's.
In our original package we were offered a free 1/2 massage, however, when we tried to schedule the "free" massage, the new manager told us they only did full hour massages and they were $70. We had been told our breakfast would be served between 7-7;30 every morning, to give the divers time to get ready, yet the second day, we all waited over an hour (I personally waited 1hr and 40 minutes) because of demanding, obnoxious visiting "dentists" who told the staff they must be served by 8am? There were lot's of unhappy people that day! It would have been much more helpful if this resort had listed what they offered and the price, up front, so guests could have the information before arriving.
The staff was amazing, friendly, helpful and accommodating in every way. The food was excellent and service fantastic. When we were checking out, several members of our group were outraged at the over pricing of certain items. Can you imagine paying $100. for a birthday cake, or $450. for a listed $60. Village Tour? Whether it was the owners or the manager, we were not sure, but the pluses outweighed the minuses over all.

Room Tip: We were very pleased with our first floor room, with spa just outside our door. While the bed was li...

Thank you for taking time to write such a thorough review, and we're glad to hear you enjoyed the warm Fijian hospitality. Regarding the costings, please note that some of the activities were not included in the dive package for your group and therefore additional costs would be incurred. We do have a 30minute massage available at our spa, and find that most people enjoy it so much they extend to 1 hour - it's that relaxing!

Thanks again, and we hope to have you and the group back with us soon, so please contact our reservations team and we can offer a more inclusive package to make your next stay with us even better.

Our stay at Garden Island Resort was very pleasant and enjoyable. There weren't too many guests during our stay but the staff were quite attentive and the management was always on site to ask how we were doing. Our room was just beautiful and the view was fantastic.

The food was good although a bit pricey.

The +:
- excellent management of the resort (attention to details, guests are nicely welcome, etc)
- excellent dives nearby and good dive center
- rooms are clean, comfortable and nicely decorated.
- quality of sleep is incredibly good (excellent beds)
- meals and drinks are good
- the view on the sea
- well maintained swimming pool and garden
- the staff is nice and helpful

The -:
- no sandy beach but there are long chairs to have a rest just in front of the sea
- the breakfast is a bit too basic but well prepared
- bathrooms are ok but have not been renovated as well as bedrooms

In conclusion: I definetely advise to go to this resort.

We were on our honeymoon and were staying at another resort-overly priced and not what we expected! It did not have the at home feeling, that we had the instant that we arrived to Garden Island Resort! Our journey dropped us off to Garden Island Resort by pure coincidence....and we are truly grateful! With the manager Claudia making sure we were at ease and providing us with such great service and amenities- it made our trip! We went snorkeling to the most amazing sites and took the most spectacular pictures! I had incredible spa treatments, my masseuse made me feel like she knew everything about me-without saying a word. Now lets talk about the Sangria and the food- after our stay at the other not so "Paradise" like location- it was a warm welcome! After all the activities, we got to relax on our white cloud bed and maybe take a dip in our own personal Jacuzzi off of our room in our private patio! We were not sure if we wanted to return to Fiji, but now we keep reminiscing and can't wait to go back! My husband and I highly recommend Garden Island Resort!

Room Tip: Talk to Claudia...she will help you throughout your stay! She can schedule you an amazing time! Tell...

Garden Island Resort is located only 5 minutes from the Rainbow Reef and that is traveling in a large dive boat. You suit up on shore; take the little boat to the dive boat where your equipment is waiting. By the time you get the weights in your BCD and de-fogger on your mask, you are at the dive site. Get a briefing, suit up, step off the back of the boat and let the fun begin.
Temperature was 79 F (a 3 mil wet suit works for me) and 40 feet visibility. It has been reported that the currents are some of the strongest in the south Pacific and I guess this is true if you look for a strong current. Six days of diving and only one day with a strong current and the current really was not all that strong. Good dive masters will read the tide and take you to sites where the current is mild and you can cruise along taking pictures and relaxing.
We saw 4 or 5 sharks and a huge grouper (5-6 feet). All of the dive sites had an abundance of fish. The soft coral and all of the fish make this a great dive location. And if you go, do not miss diving the White Wall, it is fantastic.
All of the dive operators people bend over backward to make sure you have a good time. They treat you like an adult certified diver and if you go a few feet below the planned depth, they do not get bent out of shape.
The rooms have an air conditioner, which came in rel handy during several warm nights. There is a TV set, but it does not get cable channels. The rooms are nice.
Food is good, some days great and other days just Ok.

As part of my visit to several resorts in Fiji in April, I had the chance to stop at Garden Island in Taveuni. Not a scheduled stop but one that I wanted to see. There had been a lot of changes there and I wanted to see them first hand. Please note, I did not stay there, dive there, or eat there, it was a quick visit to see the upgrades. They now have a very nice pier that goes out a good distance. They are adding to that pier to allow for power yachts to use. The resort is not the typical Fijian ambiance, in fact it is very European in its styling. The bottom floor rooms all have a Jacuzzi on the porch, the uppers do not. All the rooms have been upgraded and are very nice. I like this resort but if you are looking for that Fijian ambiance, you will not get a lot of that, but if you want a clean, well run resort with access to some great diving and have a smaller budget, this is a great resort for you! The owner, Philip, is very nice and made us feel very welcomed even though it was an unannounced visit.

Room Tip: spend the extra and get the jacuzzi rooms!

There may be wonderful cottages right on the ocean and beautiful expensive rooms on the island of Taveuni that make you feel tropical but if you’re looking for the most comfortable room the Garden Island cannot be beat. Beautiful King size beds with wonderful pillows all imported sheets that make you feel comfy wonderful and cozy. The room can also boast about air conditioning TV, DVD player and streams of hot and cold water for your shower. What I love about the rooms at the Garden Island is I can just stay in my room and enjoy my vacation from there, not recommended of course. Also included with your room is room service when you would like a meal sent up. Least I forget the rooms in the Hotel also have a Jacuzzi, nice while you are having a drink at sunset. All imported tiles completes the room along with Wi-Fi, coffee and tea maker and lots of towles. The hotel in addition has its own restaurant, bar, pool and dive shop right at your fingertips. Centrally located the Garden Island which is reasonablebly priced is your best choice. Perfect also for large groups and conventions with pick up service from the airport adds more value to this fine resort.

Room Tip: lower rooms for the Jacuzzi
