From their website it would appear this B&B is right on the ocean. They neglect the large apt. building that sits in front of it. From the upper floors you can see the ocean - from some rooms. Bathrooms are tiny and old.
Cashelmara provides threadbare beach towels and old wooden beach chairs gratis. For a $10 daily fee they'll rent you an umbrella and for $15 will take your chair and umbrella down to the beach. No bikes, no library - things we've come to expect from other B&B's. The most cordial member of the staff is Lucy, the golden retriever. The rest of the staff just goes through the motions. Clearly a case of absentee management. No one's invested in the property or takes a personal interest in the guests. After breakfast everyone disappears. Mid-afternoon cookies or tea ?? Not here.
After two days of "sumptuous" breakfasts (a one egg omelet with a slice of deli ham just wasn't filling ) included in the room rate, we chose to hike down to Ocean Grove and pay for a real breakfast.
Cashelmara is no bargain, but for the same prices we'll go back to Spring Lake just down the road and be treated like guests by people who actually care.
