“LOVELY HOTEL & ONE AMAZING HOLIDAY”
Reviewed December 6, 2010

Just returned from another wonderful stay at the Oriental Rivoli Hotel, would highly recommend staying here this is the best hotel I have ever had the privilege to stay, I don't normally write reviews but wanted to make sure this Hotel gets the praise it deserves. The hotel is approx. 15 minutes taxi drive from Sharm El Sheikh Airport and is located in a serene area of Naama Bay. This is a boutique hotel which is very grand and ornate depicting an Oriental theme throughout as the name dictates.

Myself and my friend, we were treated like absolute royalty, I cannot give enough credit to the General Manager, Badr Hussein and not forgetting his F&B Director Aymen who by the end of the holiday had changed his name to "Ivan"!!! along with their excellent staff who were outstanding and made us feel so welcome! nothing and i mean NOTHING was to much effort for them. We were always greeted with a smile at all times and treated as though we were part of their family, I have never been to a hotel where the staff are so courteous, warm and friendly.

We were half board and enjoyed an excellent buffet for both breakfast and evening dinner, with chefs who also prepare and freshly cook the main course, there was a very good selection of dishes for guests to choose. The hotel also like to put on speciality nights for evening dinner whereby they have a Fish & Barbecue night (a small charge for this) you will enjoy the food is wonderful and the chefs have taken a lot of care and attention. On Friday nights it’s an Egyptian evening when they arrange a spectacular show with belly dancing, Egyptian dancers and afterwards you will be entertained by Totty with a Disco. For those who prefer B&B if you want to eat out you will find a good selection of restaurants & shops only a stone throw away.

After dinner, the Hotel is very comfortable and relaxing of which they have several bars for Guests to hang out at where the bar staff are happy to entertain and serve, so special thanks has to go to Totty, Magdy & Monty.

The hotel has two beaches you can choose from, you can either walk across the road to the beach shared with Gaffey Hotel, please don’t forget to take a ticket from Reception as this will need to be given on entrance to the beach. We found this to be a lovely beach with ample sun loungers for everybody with bar & restaurant facility. The Oriental’s second beach, Viva Beach, is reached by free courtesy coach which leaves the hotel at 8.00 & 10 am every day with the last coach returning back to the hotel from the beach at 16.30 hrs every day, this beach was also very nice with a very tasteful bar and restaurant in comfortable and relaxing surroundings.

Accommodation, the rooms are so amazing, large and so comfortable, no expense has been spared in the decor whether you choose “Comfort” or “Superior” both are equally nice. My friend was so envious of the curtains she wanted to take them home for her lounge. The towel art from our gentleman maid, one word ‘brilliant’, every day we would return from the beach to our room to see a different design amazing!!!

Swimming pools, you will have three to choose from and you will never fight for a sun lounger or space by the bar.

The hotel also has Hairdressing/Beauty Salon, Gift shop & the most wonderful Spa aptly called "Oriental Spa" forget the guy's on the beach who sell them as this was by far the best I have sampled in a long time & which I found to be very reasonable in price, ambiance was very relaxing and the Spa itself was in keeping with the design of the hotel, being very well managed by Mustafa who is a professional, it was the most marvelous experience.

Thank you so much for the most enjoyable time and I hope to return very soon.

Have to disagree a bit with a recent review!

Breakfasts (we stayed B&B) were excellent, with lots of choice of breads, toast, pastries, some cheese, metts, olives etc., grapefruit, cereals, and pancakes or omelettes made to order.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and smiled every time we saw them. The staff are made up of men who leave their families from Cairo etc for a couple of months at a time and work 16 hour shifts until they can go home for a fortnight. They are not allowed to live in Sharm, needing not only a visa, or to be a bedouin, as it is too expensive for them and their families to live here! Water is shipped in by the government, but we were only told about this by a guide - no notices about retaining towels (we had no chance to not launder daily) or using less water in the shower, which is surprising.

The Comfort room had the usual very hard bed. Room 124 is situated at the back of the hotel, and could be near the staff quarters. A couple of nights we heard lots of laughing and loud talking at 2 am, and the windows didn't keep out the noise. Some of the visitors were also noisy at night. The plumbing was quiet though. We also had a lorry reversing past us a couple of nights, doing some light repairs and building work. On the last day we lost electricity and water for about 1/2 hour three times. The rooms are softly lit anyway, and it's a challenge packing all your stuff in the dark! Thankfully the problem was sorted out.

On the subject of the dual carriageway, we NEVER saw any taxis reversing to get a fare! Also all but one vehicle slowed almost to a standstill at the many sleeping policemen along here, and because there are no right turns, they stop to do U-Turns at designated places, also slowing traffic. We found it very safe to cross the road.

The beach is gritty, and the fish were good. There is some patchy coral, alot of it close to the beach is continuously being destroyed by STUPID people who touch down on it continuously! One Welshman was even wearing sandals, and said he was a poor swimmer. I suggested he find a sandier section or the pool to preserve the sealife. WHY aren't people told about standing on the coral - we saw so many people do it, the Egyptians must bring in restrictions if it carries on or tourists will have nothing to visit for diving and snorkelling any more!

P.S. We used the brilliant Sharm Club for trips and saved over £60 on the short local trips. I suspect if you go to Cairo and other far places, you would save that amount per trip.
P.P.S. Don't bother with the glass bottomed boats - they're not only disappointing, they (BOBOS) were very rude and badly behaved.

Reviewed November 26, 2010

We were vacationing with my wife in November at this hotel. We were settled quickly, explained what the fee is (drinks from the fridge, drinks at dinner) and what is not. On the day of arrival feded dinner - the main is to catch it until 21.

Sprinkler hotel is amazing. The rooms are very ornate. We lived in a comfortable room - the window is valid, but it has eastern grid - so that there is no light from the window there. But this is not a problem. The only caveat is - a refrigerator maintain temperature at 20 degrees and it seems did not work as I do not handling. But this is important if you use it - we have not used it at all. The room has a safe. Shampoo should be taken with you. The room is always clean.
Hotel service is completely satisfied us. Sometimes towels are issued later 7. The sun was up, and so go swimming without them you do not want. Although we have not touched this issue - we ate a long time, but by this time towels have arrived. Note - towels need to pass back , not later than 5. But it so happens that is already 5 o'clock and they had not been taking, and our disciplined tourists are patiently waiting to pass them - do not wait. Take it with humor. When in the course of the hotel I has never been searched - I can take food and water.

Meals are tolerable. The wife was poisoned. It is difficult to say whether the fault is in this hotel. Vegetarians power will be pleased. They make salads to order. Lots of fresh vegetables, even give Fruit - guava, oranges, lemons, melons. Sweet a lot - but not all are tasty. Cakes are tasteless - dry, impregnated crusts, but however, you can always find something tolerable. The very big problem at the dinner - meat and fish. If the chicken - then good -else - questionable content. I ate everything with no problems - not hungry will remain. Tea from a bag for dinner - $ 2 - a little expensive.

Beach - across the street GAFY Resort - 5 minutes walk. Only need is to take a pass on the Reception of the beach and pull a towel from the hotel. Do not try to smuggle in the beach water and food - you will be searched completely. The only option - enter through the beach to the left and walk along the coastline. But please note - on the beach everybody are watching and everithing should be eaten quickly. The beach space and lounges are alwaise free. Fish - such you will not see even in the reserve RAS Muhamed. Corral - basically dead, but if you sail in the direction of Sofitel - is alive. Beach has a sandy beach entry. There are no Waves . Cape Sofitel protects against them. I would say that this is the best beach in Naama Bay on the location. The only drawback - Rude Italians. Just tell them in English, that they are not at home - and they will be left behind.

Around the hotel are many cafes, McDonald's, non-stop supermarket, internet cafe, where you can call home. Prices for fruit in the supermarket - the same as in the bazaar. Note to the bazaar you can greatly deceive plus fare £ 5 on the blue shuttle bus - you can easily buy in the supermarket and ask , so you packed the right amount.
To go shopping on Naama Bay - 40 minutes on foot. You can take the blue shuttle bus - 1 pound. From left to currency exchange - Thomas Cook. In general, the location is excellent. The only note - cross the road to the hotel in the evening is quite difficult, many machines.

Be sure to take a trip to Soho in the evening (after 20) on the fountain - 30 pounds in a taxi one way. We were very pleased.

We went to Cairo, a reserve RAS Muhabed by Pegasus. Very pleased. Pegasus works fine.

Rest in hotel was very good - we will certainly go there again though.

The hotel is located seven minutes away from the Airport via taxi. On arrival to the hotel you will see the hotel is located on a main dual carriageway. There are a number of local shops, takeways and supermarket surrounding the hotel complex - including starbucks, mcdonalds and even claires accessories. This area appears clean and modern, yet on stepping outside this 'zone' it is immediately obvious that Egypt is still a developing country. Taxi's will harrass you, reverse down the dual carriageway the wrongway and slam on in fast flowing traffic for the chance to earn some egyptian pounds. Money is worth more than injury! On a plus side you can travel cheaply by taxi and you are 100% guanteed to get one as soon as you leave the hotel gate. Just make sure you tell them how much you are willing to pay.

The Hotel. On arrival you will enter the hotel through a security door way, just like the ones in airport controls. Depending on your outlook this is either perturbing, reassuring or both. The reception desk is manned by men ( I'll get to this later), who speak very good english and are very polite. A porter will then guide you to your room and take your bags.

We stayed in a junior suite with a pool view. The room had a bathroom, bedroom, living room and balcony. The airconditioning was brilliant - it worked very well - but was also very noisy. I never saw a bug, mosquito or fly in the room. This is very important, as it was respite from the flys by day and the mosquitos by night that plagued our holiday - and everyone else in Sharm. I spent a lot of time in the room, namely from painful cramps developed 36 hours after arrival. The chemist was next door - and strangly the only shop in the area not to require a street hawker. Other shop owners must envy the position of Dr W - as tourists arrive in a steady stream waving their egyption pounds at him with a sence of urgency. He tells us we're suffering travellers diarrhoea, not food poisoning. He is an efficient, friendly and happy chappy. He should be, my tablets cost a total of £26.

The Food. I enjoyed the food on the first day. After that I was a little off it, due to the 'travellers diarrhoea'. There was ample bread, salad, pickles, soup, cooked food and desserts. I tended to only eat food that was cooked or peeled in an attempt at self preservation. The chefs do cook food in front of you, which provides some reassurance. There was a mix of classic egyptian and italian food generally. The location of the restaurant is pretty and tranquil. The waiters are friendly and witty. They made us laugh many times. I recommed wearing clothes to prevent mosquito bites at dinner. And fly spray at breakfast.

The hotel spa was excellent and by far the best experience we had all holiday.

The waiters are all male. The chefs are all male. The domestic staff are all male. The beautician is male. The only female we saw was a lady who worked in the hotel spa as a masseuse. When asked why, the explaination was that it was" too much hard work for women". Maybe time for an equality policy.

The hotel has a beach and it is located five minutes away over the dual carriageway. The rules of crossing the road - their are no rules. Word of caution: you can't get a taxi to the beach and don't let the taxi driver tell you otherwise.

The Weather. It was faultless. Sunbathing weather from 7:30am untill 3pm, with it getting dark by 4.30pm

The Pool. It was like a plung pool after a sauna. Could induce cardiac arrest in any less of a person.

Despite a less than ideal holiday. I will award the Hotel Rivoli 3* and the spa 5*.

Bon apetite!

I cannot believe that anyone would dislike this hotel. The staff are great, very friendly and helpful. The hotel is spotlessly clean and the swimming pools are extremeley well maintained.

The rooms are very well equipped and overlook one of the three swimming pools and all have a balcony and patio doors. TV has some english channels including Fox films. Free safe, hairdryer, mini bar, shower, air con. What more could you ask for?

Located a ten minute walk from the main part of Naama bay which is ideal as would not like to be in the centre. The walk from the hotel to the main part of Naama is via one of the most beautiful promanades I have ever seen. If you do not fancy walking then grab a cab outside the hotel (we paid about £3 Sterling for a mini bus for ten people). There are tons of top quality restaurants to choose from and the souvenire shopping is a blast haggling with the locals. Unlike other places in Africa, no means no and you are not hassled into buying anything if you do not want to.

The private beach is a couple of minutes walk and is very clean. The scuba diving and snorkelling are awsome. Exotic and colourful fish can be seen in just a few inches of water.

Our party consisted of two families including young children and teenagers and all had a fantastic time. Lots to see and do for everyone.

I would highly recommend this hotel to young and old alike. We definitely be back again next year.

A big thank you to all of the staff at the Oriental Rivoli for making our holiday so special and memerable.
