“Christmas 2013”
Reviewed January 23, 2014 via mobile

Great holiday, great weather , great staff!.

Tony the manager made the family feel very welcome from day one and was very friendly and hospitable, always checking on us to see if we needed anything whenever he saw us. Further mention must also be made for Sam the Bar man, Mohammed the Restaurant Manager and Ahmed & Frances from the Animation Team who together were all superb.

Yousef the Director Of Kitchen should also be mentioned for his excellent display laid on for the Christmas Eve meal.

Thoroughly enjoyable holiday with day time temperatures of 29 degrees.

If we ever get the chance to return to Egypt we will ensure we return to Shores Amphoras!.

Second visit to Sharm, and after staying in a somewhat shabby hotel there last year, I took more time and trouble to research hotels before booking this time round. Shores did not disappoint and I was impressed by the cleanliness of the accomodation and well manicured gardens and grounds. The room and bathroom was very clean with a nice balcony view over the gardens.
It has a great beach with a good reef easily accessed off the jetty and lots of activities for adults and kids - fitness, stretching, volleyball, boules, beach tennis, etc, all organised by a friendly and enthusiastic animation team. I made use of the hotels gym (quite small but has most of the kit you need - machines and free weights) and also had some sauna/steam and massage sessions in the hotel Spa. All staff were very friendly and attentive and could'nt do enought for you - this included the lovely guy who cleaned our room every day, the poolside bar staff, and the waiters in the restaurant - special mention here to Aish who looked after me and my daughter with humour and charm every time we sat down to eat - top bloke!
Yes there are more luxurious hotels in Sharm - the Hilton, etc, but you will pay a lot more for them and for a £500 all inclusive week's holiday in the sun, you can't do much better than this place. I am already looking forward to retruning back to Shores in January 15!

Hotel is perfectly placed away from the main drag. It has a great beach front, lovely facilities and wonderful staff; especially Frances and Ahmed of the animation team. Food is not typically English so will not appeal to most, although perfectly edible, but by all accounts this is typical of the region and not out of place. Do not be fooled by some of the more expensive hotels, they may be nearer the action and 'English' bars, but they may well be within earshot of the local enormous mosque with prayers being expelled on loudspeaker all day. Lots of Italians and Russians, very much the minority here, but all mix well. Hotel could be 5* if it tidied up a bit. Very clean, lovely apartments, but could do with a bit of maintenance.

Room Tip: 7 pools, only palm pool heated. Ask for near there but away from amphitheatre bit. Late night very l...

First time in Egypt and will return 100% everyone very friendly animation team France's who is English was great as you don't get many English family's there so it was good to have someone to advise you where to go and what to do also keep kids busy with darts table tennis and water activities.
Hotel rooms basic but just what you need cleaned every day, pool & beach towels provided every day
Food just gets rather boring as same option not much change pasta is the main choice although rather nice,
New Years Eve best ever celebration we've had so well done all the staff who worked hard to make it so good.

We have just returned from a wonderful week at the Shores Amphoras (21-28 December 013). I booked this hotel after studying the trip advisor reviews and comparing with others I was looking at. I liked the fact that the hotel manager responds to the reviews and obviously ‘cares’ and figured that any hotel which placed this importance on good customer care/relations would be ok. Obviously there were some negative reviews i read too but i appreciate you cant please everyone. I wasn't disapointed!

I emailed the manager prior to arrival to check we could get rooms close together for our party and he promptly responded with rooms he had reserved. The rooms were amazing. Spacious, clean, nice fittings, lovely bathroom, wonderful sea and pool views etc.

The hotel is beautiful and has an amazing reef. You don't even need to go off the jetty you can just walk 2 foot into the sea and poke your head under. There is a good selection of shops and services available like spa, beauty salon, hairdresser, mini-market etc. The shop staff who sell things around the pool were a bit much on the first day, a constant stream of them coming round, but they are all friendly and polite and leave you alone if you say you aren't interested.
The hotels staff is its biggest asset. They are all, without exception, lovely. Nothing is too much trouble and they love the friendly english people. My parents had a couple of problems with their room on the first day (water and electric stopped working and no bath plug) but each time they called reception and someone was straight there to fix it. You cant ask for more than that!
I had a full body egyptian massage with Iman in the spa and it was amazing. So relaxing just what i needed. A few other staff to mention: Ashraf and Mohammed in the buffet restaurant were lovely and really looked after us, Francis the English animation team girl was great with my children and took them off for activities giving me a nice rest, the pool barman was lovely too. But really all the staff were brilliant and i just dont know their names to mention them!

We were a party of 7 and no one got ill. We did take Bimune Travel Aid before and during our holls and i would reccommend these to other travels (purchase from Boots) as the egyptian cuisine is different to ours. However i ate salad, ice etc and we werent ill.

Interestingly you can spend english money all over sharm. Notes only though not coins we found out. This is because the pound is strong so they egyptians happily take it as well as dollars and euros. This was handy for when we ran out of money. Also the exchange rate from cash machines was probably better than i got changing money in the uk.

We took the handy shuttle bus to nama bay a couple of times for shopping and the overal experience. Whilst there we ate once at Dananeer (upstairs 100yrds just past macdonalds) where you can get a fillet steak for £6.60. A lovely meal. Macdonalds too is just like ours except much much bigger portions! It just smells different inside the restaurant.

We ate in the Bella Vista restaurant at the hotel and this was well worth the small extra cost of the drinks. We had lovely meals there in a beautiful relaxed atmosphere and again the waiter was lovely. We don't eat seafood so didn't eat in the Mermaid restaurant. The buffet restaurant was ok. My only criticism here would be the food could be a little warmer sometimes and its good to always have something chicken and potatoes as us english like that. Sometimes the food wasnt to our liking but if you want english food you should stay in england and I'm sure the food is similar in all resorts as you are in egypt after all. However, there was always something we could eat and pasta for the children. The beach bar we found was best for lunches things like chips and chicken, burgers, salad etc. We also had some room service pizzas late at night which i can recommend.

The alcohol was ok. The egyptian wine wasn't to my taste but then i am a wine lover so i did pay extra for cava. My suggestion would be maybe they could have one of the juice type machines available at the bars with a different cocktail in each day (like i’ve experienced at other resorts) so that you could have a cocktail now and then without paying as otherwise you are limited to beer and spirits (i don't like spirits in the day so a cocktail by the pool would of been nice). I did buy a few mohitos from the international drinks bar.

And my only other criticism would be that they really need a toilet near the main heated pool. Its a bit of a walk to the lobby or beach toilets or your room and with two small children (5 year old twins) i did feel like every time i sat down or got in the water someone then needed me to walk them to the toilet or for food etc.

The staff in the resort and elsewhere in sharm eg: shops, taxi drivers etc all work very hard with long days and for monthly salaries of around £70 so considerably less than we earn per day in the uk so remember this when tipping or haggling.

We found the hotel taxis nicest to use as clean and with seat belts. And i would also reccommend the glass bottom submarine ride (bookable through the hotel lobby) for any non-swimmers to experience the reefs. Also the layalina shisha bar is great and the bellydancing is worth watching i was truly mesmerised by the spinning man! We would of liked more entertainment like this. Oh and make sure you take a mosquito spray with deet in and spray well and cover up in the evenings (leggings or similar) to avoid being bitten as we did see some people with nasty bites. We normally wore leggings, jeans or longer clothes with a light cardigan in the evenings which are much cooler than the day as the sun sets about 5pm.
There is a lot of Italians and Russians at the resort but i’ve read similar in other reviews too so i suspect you would find this in a lot of sharm. We didn't go on holiday to make friends or spend all day chatting with other English so weren't bothered by this.

All in all we had an amazing, relaxing, sunny (27-30 degrees) holiday here and i wouldn't hesitate to reccommend the hotel. In fact i shall be looking online tomorrow (new years day) when i hope the prices for next year will be available to see if we can go back!!!

Thankyou to Tony Alvarez and the team for a wonderful holiday. xx

Room Tip: Our rooms were in the emerald area and were lovely but a pool view room by the main heated pool woul...

Very Nice resort, fantastic service from the senior management through to the general staff, (and i mean all of them , reception, restaurants, pool, spa, room attendants, cleaners , gardeners, animation team, bars ), a lot of effort was put into the Xmas celebrations by the hotel and everything seemed to be well organised, food was generally pretty good all of the time , we did eat in the Mermaid Restaurant one night from the A La Carte menu and this was very good, the accommodation we had was more than adequate ( we were there through a Time share exchange), the accommodation was a little tired and worn and would benefit from a make over with some modern equipment, that said it was kept clean and the beds were very comfortable, its not like we were spending much time inside anyway, the pools and grounds were well kept and you could always find a sunbed in a quieter area if you wanted ( the beach and main pools were fairly busy with music and activity's going on most of the day, which people seemed to enjoy), we would definitely be happy to stay here again.

Room Tip: Depends which month you are there but for winter sun i always like to see if the balcony's are o...
