We have recently returned from a twelve day all-inclusive winter break staying at the Regency Plaza hotel in Nabq Bay. Overall, it was a very good holiday with splendid weather every day. Our room faced the sea and was just a three minutes walk to the sandy beach that shelved ever so gently into the warm Red Sea - very safe for young children. The room was cleaned every day but the housekeeper was sometimes a bit forgetful about his check-list.
The staff were generally friendly and helpful except those on the reception who were almost the opposite. The hotel itself, advertised everywhere as 5*, occasionally fell short of expectations giving rise to a number of niggles; the rating cannot possibly be based on quality.
In particular, the buffet style main restaurant became increasingly boring because the menu choice was hardly varied during our stay; the breakfast was probably the best meal of the day. The other on-site restaurants appeared to promise something more but, regrettably, these too were below par. Our best meal was at a beach restaurant in Naama Bay!
There were three internet stations in reception but only one computer functioned and the connection speed was painfully slow.
The greatest disappointment for our nine-year old son was the absence of the advertised aqua park and waterslides that were still under construction; it was the promise of these facilities that largely influenced our booking decision so we have strongly challenged the travel company about this.
The holiday representative appeared helpful at the initial briefing at which he promised a twice daily visit to the hotel; however, he consistently failed to turn up to the extent that we had to telephone him to book an excursion he had promoted.
On the subject of excursions, the day snorkelling trip to Tiran island was outstanding; even the on-board food was better than at the hotel!
Finally, I have read a number of reviews that mention aircraft noise but, please bear in mind that there is nowhere along Sharm's strip that isn't under the flight-path of something or other; it really isn't that intrusive.

Have just come back from the Regency. After the initial feeling of having arrived at Butlins, Sharm, we had a really good holiday and hotel is generally good, clean and service really good. Staff helpful and nice.

However, toilet brush in room made me feel sick - looked like it was used to clean the toilets at the Pyramids for a year!

Apart from breakfast, the food in the main restaurant was awful and still have the stomach bug I've had since last Sunday (7 days). Not good.

The Camello was good, although slightly dodgy salad and vegetables.

Beach bar good but they do keep the serving spoons in the same containers as salad (very unhygenic), yuk.

Oriental Cafe good as food traditional.

Fish Market - fish okayish but salad and veggies about a week old.

Not much fruit available, which was a bit surprising as it's Egypt. They keep melon and dates in water (why?) and as a result have no flavour.

Spa not finished. The gym was allegedly ready but it was dusty, had no airconditioning and wires hanging out of walls and ceiling.

The hotel itself and its grounds were lovely (unless you were unlikely enough to be put in the part being refurbished which was by no way of 5 star standard). We previously stayed at the Coral Sea Resort and regret not going back there this year. Sharm is a great place for a holiday. There are some great trips you can do. We have been to Cairo, Luxor (which was the highlight of this holiday) and have done a lot of snorkelling and scuba diving.

We had a great holiday but there were so many flaws with the hotel that should be highlighted:

1. the food in the main buffet restaurant was horrible and was the same for both dinner and lunch. We complained and got put in the a la carte restaurants for the rest of the holiday. The food there was better but not the best.

2. Not really all inclusive as advertised in terms of drinks! Wine was only available from the main buffet restaurant and the staff made a huge fuss if you went to sit out in the terrace (which was still part of the main restaurant) after dinner with a glass of wine.

If you wanted wine in any of the other bars or restaurants, you had to pay. This was extremely disappointing. Cocktails were also not included in the all inclusive package. The staff in the main restaurant were rude (although this was not the case elsewhere in the hotel).

2. it caters primarily for Russians. It does not cater for British people in terms of food, entertainment etc. Evening entertainment seemed to be in either Russian or Italian.

3. there was no quiet pool which was extremely annoying as they had dance music blaring out of the speakers around the pools constantly to the point where you often had to shout to speak. We wanted to go and chill out for 12 days and it was extremely hard to relax at the pool.

4. the reception staff were so slow and very unhelpful.

5. on one occasion it took 3 hours for towels to be delivered to our room despite numerous phone calls.

Me and my boyfriend have just returned from the regency plaza, the staff were great and very friendly. I w
Would say the same as other people have said in there reviews, that the food was very boring and the same every single day. Me and my boyfriend were both ill for the whole 2 weeks, as we ate out a few times we dont want 2 blame this on the food in the hotel. As we said you could get the s**ts back at home!!! We went to the old Market one night never again, it was full and I mean full of cats (which I am not all that keen on). All the shops where ever you go sell the same tat. All in all we had a great relaxing 2 weeks. As we have been to Egypt 3 times this is not the best hotel but by no means the worst. Enjoy your holiday!!!

We've just returned from a weeks holiday at the Regency Plaza, our first trip to Sharm. Our room was overlooking the beach which was lovely as the noise of the music round the pool area was very loud during the day. The staff were excellent. Couldn't have been more helpfull. The room was very clean. The holiday was let down by the food. The main restaurant was more like a cattle market with no variety in the food all week. It was very bland and very boring with the same choice every night. In fact by the end of the week a chees sandwich was attractive! According to the website there is a carvery. We never saw it! We were told originally it was 5 star but before we went it was downgraded to 4 star. To me it was more like 3 star but not reflected in the price. I definately wouldn't go back.
