My boyfirend and I stayed here in April this year. We had read the reviews on trip advisor - especially regarding the food and decided that some people can be fussy and that we would give it a go. BIG MISTAKE!!!

The food was repetitive every single day. I know you should expect this on an all inclusive deal. But come on, does anyone really expect to be eating what was served at lunch, for dinner? No you dont - especially not at a 4* hotel.

When we did get a meal that we thought was ok, it was spoiled by the fact that it was only ever luke warm at best. You will never got a hot meal in the restuarant.

Also, the staff do not let you have more then one drink at a time at the dinner table. do not expect to be able to have a soft drink and a glass of wine at the same time. It just aint happening!!!

The only good thing about the food was the desserts - they were always nice.

If you have already booked here the only advice i can give is go to the hotel reception and ask for the number of McDonalds. You can ring from your hotel room for the cost of 20p and order a massive dinner for 2 thirds of the price you pay at home. It arrives hot and on time and McDonalds is much better abroad.

The steak al a carte reastuarant was nice, but di not expect a good hearty meal. If you have worked up an appetite during the day then you had better order 2 main courses as they are really small portions.

Did not try the italian but other people we spoke to said it was crap.

The AI deal over all was not very good. You will be given a sheet of paper on your arrival telling you where you can eat and drink. Drinks are served at the pool bar between 10am and 6pm. Very very small measures. Do not expect to get drunk during the day. The pool bar is the only place you can get free drinks during the day. There is another nice bar with a better seating area by the smaller pool but you have to pay.

In the evening you can only drink in the entertianment bar and only until 11pm. But you do get rather large measure, especially if you are nice to the bar man.

On your last day you have to check out by 12pm. This is where your AI deal ends - which is ludicrous - especially if you are not leaving until 6pm like we were.

Pool bar staff were very moody - not friendly at all and you will get hassled by the man who wants to give you a massage.

Pool area was really nice - but you will have to get there early to get a bed. Most people seemed to be tipping the pool attendants to save there beds - then not turning up til late in the afternoon. Which was not very fair on the rest of the guests who could not get a bed. My boyf and i took it in turns to get up and get our beds by 8am. You dont really have any other choice unless you want to sit in a grotty plastic chair all day.

The cleaners were great, very friendly and always cleaned the rooms to a very high standard.

We were upgraded to a suite upon arrival - which was massive!! A hugh bed in a huge bedroom. A massive front room with sofa and chairs, dining table, fridge freezer and cooking facilities and knives forks, plates e,t,c. Very impressive.

The grounds were amazing, absolutley beautiful and the gardners worked so hard to keep them that way.

Unfortunately - tha last 2 items did not make up for the rest of the trip.

I love egypt and would not hesitate in going back. In fact we are returning in 4 weeks, but will be staying at another hotel.

If you have already booked this hotel - try and change it. overall you will be diasppointed.

My Girlfriend and I booked to stay at the Mexicana for 7 Night All Inclusive.....

Hotel Room (Rm 245)

Very Bright, Clean and Tidy, Huge Shower with Fridge and Television. Air Con works a treat, Irons are not available!!! take one!!

Food.

Food was Very Poor, You can only eat at one of the 4 eating areas under the All Inclusive rules, the Main Eating Hall provides very little options and provides guests chicken Rice beef and Salad day in day out. a suppliment is required to eat elsewhere.

PoolS

Both Pools well maintained. The large Pool finds itself with a massage area and pool bar (and a rubbish DJ with 2 huge speakers). The smaller pool is for a more relaxing stay (tip - give the pool man your room card and he will put your towells out at 7:30 every morning, when you arrive at 10am after a little lay in, your beds will be waiting you....no fighting the germans!!)

Hotel

Hotel itself is very colourfull and a very pleasant relaxing place to stay, its about 20min by cab in car and 10 min from any nightlife in naama bay!! the only real let down is the food!! you WILL be dissapointed if you have paid all inclusive

Harrassment

Do not allow the locals to rip you off!! tip - Just keep walking and pretend your not english, We pretended we were spanish and they ignored us!! Noh INGLISH!! EXCELLENT SAYING!

apart from all the bad points, the mexicana is a very pleasant stay! i would advice anyone on reasons to go, just dont go all inclusive and dont get ripped off!!!

Happy Hols

Visited the mexicana on 16th April for a week. Stayed bed and breakfast and couldn't fault anything, except maybe the breakfast being the same each day.
There was 2 pools a large one which had music from around 11am each day to around 5 with plenty of sun loungers around and a smaller quieter one, that also had lots of sun loungers. Towels were provided by the hotel and you could take them out if you were going out for the day. The gardens were lovely, and well maintained.
We booked a double room, and ended up with a one bed roomed apartment. It was spacious, clean had air con in both the bedroom and living area, and a fridge in the kitchen that was great for keeping the water cool. The cleaner made swans out of our towels and left us fresh flowers each day.
There was a poolside bar that served sandwiches and pizzas for around £1.50 to £2 and were really nice. Don't be fooled by the cheese trio sandwich, it doesn't mean three types of cheese but actually 3 pieces! Unlike the 4 cheese pizza served in the Italian restaurant. The main restaurant where the all inclusives had each meal was nice but the food wasn't up to much. Breakfast each day was breads, and pastries, salads, and small amount of fruit. There was chefs who would cook a fresh omelet, or pancakes or Belgian waffles. On this basis i wouldn't recommend a/i. The food is so cheap in Egypt you don't need to. The hotel did have a Italian and a steak restaurant we only tried the Italian on our first night but it was nice.
At night there was a hotel disco but it was very quiet, they had 3 nights of entertainment on while we were there but we went to naama bay instead and went there for our last drink around half 12 if we were having an early night. In the hotel the lager was about £1.70 for a half litre of luxor. Alcopops were £2.50 and spirits were around the same.
The hotel was between 4 and 8 minutes ride away in a taxi (depending on how crazy the driver was) from naama bay. It cost us £1.50 each way everyday but they do start higher. The taxis drive up and down the road past the hotel beeping to let you no they are free but make sure its the blue and white old Peugeot's. The hotel have their own taxis but they are more expensive. The Peugeot are a lot more fun, they have no lights, no wing mirrors, no seat belts, smell of fuel but are a laugh a minute.
The staff in the hotel are very helpful and friendly and make you feel very welcome.
There is a supermarket to the left of the hotel that was useful, the water was 12pence a bottle where the hotel charged 40p. It may not sound like a lot but when your using 8 to 10 bottles a day it saves you a lot. There is a few other shops around the hotel but the owners do hassle you. There is an English pub 200meters down the road on the main road called T2 a smaller version of the Tavern Bar in Naama bay, The food is decent and they have the English football matches on.
If your booking an excursion id recommend checking out the boat in the middle floor of the naama bay shopping centre before you book with a rep in the hotel. We went quad biking for £7 each but we spoke to other couples who had paid up to £30 each from hotel reps. The company was reliable and gave us a discount on a tiran island boat trip because they remembered us.
This for us was a brilliant holiday and we would love to go back. We couldn't complain.

Ok i booked this as a last minute holiday and got a very good cheap deal.
I loved the hotel it is very very pretty with loads of flowers and grass everywhere. Its location was also very good, only about 20 mins from the airport & 10mins from Naama bay.
I went though with my sister for a 1 week stay and both of us are both young and blonde so we got harassed our whole stay.. even by people working in the hotel (by the way there is not 1 woman working in the hotel)
Our room (227) was also above the hotel kitchen and dining room and subsequently got woken up at about 4am everyday when all the staff arrived for breakfast. There was also a little.. wat i would describe as a shed below our balcony containing huge gas canisters and 1 morning we were awoken at 3am by a man pushing over the gas canisters and rolling them away towards the kitchen!!!! the whole room shook and went on for about 10minutes before i had to shout off the balcony for them to be quiet!!!!
The food in the hotel was horrid... i stayed all inclusive and everyday was the same.... some sort of rice, chicken, beef and vegetables but the were horrid!!! byt half way through the holiday i was eating soup and a roll as could not face anything else.
You also have to pay for food from the pool bar e.g chips, burgers or pizzas and you can only get free alcohol until 11pm!
There is also no evening entertainment what so ever!!

Me and my partner stayed at the mexicana and were pleasantly surprised at how clean and how nice it was. It is a short bus ride fom the local beaches and Naama Bay which is where the night life is. The hotel lay on free bus rides to the beach and Naama Bay which is good. Just up the road is a lovely quiet beach called Reef Beach which is fantastic for snorkelling. The only thing that lets this hotel down is the food. We went A Inc and its the same food every day. Beef, Chicken, rice and spaghetti. After a few days it drives you mad. The pools are nice and the staff are very friendly and helpful. You can book up lots of excursions which are reasonably cheap and if you like to dive its fantastic. The pyramids are an hours flight away at a cost of about 130 pound each. All in all it was a lovely stay and I would definitely recommend it. Lastly, if you have to make your own way by taxi from the airport to the mexicana be aware the taxi drivers will try and sting you for at least 4 times what the fayre should be. You should look to pay no more than 12 english pounds. They tried to charge me 30 pound and I had to haggle a lot to get the right price. Its the same in the shops, beware they will charge you way over the top for things if you dont haggle, so get ready to haggle!!

We went for christmas and it was very nice, the weather was amazing and the food was surprisingly good. The staff at the hotel were good apart from if it got busy then they didnt seem to know what to do. However our holiday was ruined by the touters around the pool at the hotel, you expect it down the street but not around the pool and these people would wake you up to ask if you wanted a massage not just once a day but a few times everyday. We will probably go back but probably to NAMA BAY as we were just a bit to secluded at the mexicana.

we have just got back after staying at the mexicana for 2 weeks. we were a bit worried as it was our 1st visit to egypt, we need not have worried it was a lovely hotel and the staff could not do enough for you.michal was our cleaner and he did a fantastic job, every other day there was fresh flowers in the room.we went on b/b basis as we had heard ai was not very good i think we made the right decision as food looked very poor.breakfast was ok if you can eat eggs and bread every day, you could have fresh fruit salad if you could manage to get to it as soon as it came out before our russian friends did, they take everything in bulk and if they think you are waiting to get some they always fill there bowl to the brim as not to leave any for anyone else ie us brits.
however they wont stop us from returning to the mexicana as we have just booked to go again next april cant wait.
