We returned to the Sierra hotel just 5 months after our first visit and were so pleased we did. The greeting from staff was amazing so friendly and warm. Many staff remembered us from our first time and were genuinely pleased to welcome us back, in particular barmen and waiters Emad, Sobhy, Ehab, Bahaa and Nahad (female), head restaurant waiter Harry, spa staff Halima, Zinnap and Mena, and gardener Ed. Lifeguard Wagdy and Ramadan were also great. In fairness all staff are there to please and always try their best to do so.
We stayed in block 6 which is quite tired in places, but even so is kept spotlessly clean by the house keeping staff, and in particular our room cleaner Danial who did a splendid job for us. There was a faulty power socket in our room which was replaced within 10 minutes of it being reported, so well done the maintenance men for prompt action.
The food is good with a good choice, and although it may not suit everyone all the time, there was always something suitable to be found. In addition the premium all inclusive allows you eat in the Soho Square restaurants either free or at a 35% discount, so allowing even more choice.
The heated pools are kept clean daily by the lifeguards. Also the health and hygiene team were constantly checking the food and bar areas ensuring everything met the required standards.
The hotel may or may not be a five star depending on your perspective, but is is kept spotlessly clean, staff cannot do enough for you and the amenities are excellent, we plan to return very soon.

Room Tip: Upstairs balcony rooms give a little more privacy should you wish to sit outside your room. Although we haven't experienced it, block 3 seems to be the one with refurbished rooms.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for returning to the Sierra and for posting this lovely review. The staff you mention will get points towards prizes in our staff motivation program, besides which, they really appreciate the guests remembering their names and thanking them on this forum.
It’s important to note that we do have our own in-house health and hygiene department which tirelessly test and analyses food, drinks, tap-water, pool-water, work surfaces and bathrooms and everything else in between to ensure that the high standards we expect of ourselves and our staff are maintained.
Your feedback is important to us and very well-received and we do hope to see you in the not-too-distant future back here at the Sierra.
Kind regards,

We stayed at the Sierra from 25th January to 3rd February and, overall, we had a great time.

There were many positives that served to make the holiday really enjoyable. Sadly there was also one big negative which let the hotel down - the main restaurant - so let's get that out of the way first:

Breakfast - okay with a small selection of cereals plus yoghurts and plenty of freshly prepared fruit and continental selection of meats, cheeses and salads. Call order omelette bar where you could also get fried eggs cooked to order. A decent selection of hot items plus lots of different breads. Tea and coffee served to your table.

Lunch - we avoided the main restaurant as it was always packed and, instead opted for a light snack at the Pool Snack Bar near the Kids Club. The menu was pretty basic but they did a decent tuna mayo baguette. However, check before you order a dessert - the cheesecake with chocolate sauce had never seen any cheese and for the entire duration of our holiday there was no chocolate sauce. Also, the Lava Cake with ice cream was only available without ice cream. In the end this became a standing joke, but why advertise it if it isn't available??

Dinner - comprised soup (okay) plus quite an extensive selection of hot dishes. Unfortunately, the dishes were very bland and in a blind taste testing it would have difficult to tell one dish from another. The restaurant also featured a different theme each night (English, Russian, etc) but it was difficult to spot the differences in the content or taste of the dishes. Desserts were almost exclusively small cakes, all looking very attractive and appealing but all tasting exactly the same!
We ended up dining out of the hotel on six out of ten nights, something we've never done before. We used Akhuna Matata three times. This is a food court that is part of the all inclusive and there are about seven different themed outlets. The food was generally good but because there are different outlets the food comes out at different times and on a couple of occasions my wife had finished her meal before I had even received mine. We also dined at the steak restaurant, which was very good, and at the Savoy Italian restaurant which was excellent. These aren't part of the all inclusive but you do get 35% discount which puts them on a par with UK prices.

Service - breakfast was better than dinner but that was because we usually went into the restaurant towards the end of service when it had quietened down a bit. Dinner was usually chaotic. You have to find your own table - if you're really lucky you may find one that's been cleared and laid up. Mostly, however, you have to wait while someone clears a table and lays it up for you. Then they walk off without asking what you would like to drink. The waiters are friendly and do work hard but there is no organisation and a lack of supervision. I have stayed in many similar hotels in the past but the organisation here is about as bad as I have seen. Like a basic works canteen, but worse!

Now for the good bits: EVERYTHING ELSE!!

Our room in block 3 overlooking the Sunset Pool was excellent and kept spotlessly clean throughout our stay by Mohamed. Little extras like bath robes, slippers and a decent range of toiletries added a nice extra touch.

There are, I think, six or seven pools but we stayed by the Sunset Pool where we were royally looked after by Mina Ebeed who kept us topped up with drinks and by Roffael Nessem the pool lifeguard who fussed around us and made sure we were comfortable by the pool.

The staff really are great here ( even the restaurant staff) - very friendly and always have a cheery word for you. Even the gardeners stop what they are doing to say hello and wish you a nice day. Also the Guest Relations staff, Janel and Maryna, who were very helpful and always ready to have a laugh and joke with you.

There was entertainment in the hotel most evenings - a male singing duo who were very good, a male and female duo who were also good and a fantastic South African band called The Rockets. These guys were amazing and were usually to be seen either performing in the hotel, or in Soho Square or in Akhuna Matata.

If you don't fancy drinking in the hotel you can always visit the Queen Vic pub which is just outside the Sierra or have a drink from the bar near the main stage in Soho Square. Both bars are part of the all inclusive.

Soho Square is a 'strip' about 200 metres long, comprising shops, bars, restaurants and entertainment venues, with The Savoy Hotel at one end and the Sierra Hotel at the other. It's pretty quiet during the day but comes alive at night when visitors from other hotels flock in to make it a great atmosphere. There is a great water fountain display to music which is well worth seeing and a big outdoor stage with musical entertainment.

All in all we had a great holiday and we would certainly return - but I do hope they sort out the catering before our next visit!!

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to write this comprehensive and detailed review of your recent stay at the Sierra. I’m so pleased that you had a great time and that there were many positive comments in your report.
However, I am a little disappointed that you were not so keen on some of the food items and the absence of others. Unfortunately, machines do sometimes breakdown and it seems that the freezer containing the ice cream was not functioning properly and I believe that this was the reason for the lack of ice cream. This has now been rectified. The cheese cake is made in-house to a traditional European recipe and I’m sorry you didn’t like it.
Your comments about dinner have been passed to the F&B department but I can assure you that the little cakes have a wide range of flavours including chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, lemon, walnut, almond and many more.
Despite one or two niggles it’s good to know that you would return and we hope to welcome you back soon.
Kind regards,

We've just returned from a lovely two week stay in the Sierra. This hotel does have some negatives but not bad enough to matter to us. The rooms in the 6000's block are basic with tatty bathrooms and are in need of being updated. Our room was also very noisy! However we don't go on holiday to spend time in a hotel room and it was kept very clean for us. Tea, coffee and bottled water are left in rooms everyday : ).
The hotel grounds are pleasant and very well kept, pools are looked after and hotel toilets are cleaned constantly.
The all inclusive is fantastic value for money! To eat you can choose from the main hotel restaurant, snack bar, food court or kebab cafe. The food in the main restaurant is mediocre and usually luke warm but there's a wide variety to choose from. Water is allegededley served at tables with your meal but we only managed to get a glass of water twice in two weeks. The snack bar is hit or miss, either hot junk food or cold hard chips but again it does have quite a wide choice. The food court in Soho square offers service with a smile (most of the time) amazing fish and chips with a side salad but everything else we tried in there was terrible. The menu in the kebab cafe is limited but the dishes we tried were delicious and portions are enormous.
The drinks in a couple of bars in Soho square are also included in the all inclusive package. You can choose from soft drinks, fresh fruit juices, draft beer, wines, spirits (lighter fuel) and cocktails as long as you order from the blue menus. We were conned at the Fontana bar when the barman gave us the black menu. £30 and 4 drinks later including a generous tip another hotel guest told us we could've had free drinks.
The bar staff within the hotel were amazing. They're very friendly, welcoming and efficient. We had incredible service from Ehab, Bahaa, Sobhy and Ehmed!

All in all our holiday was fantastic and we are booking the Sierra for our February holiday next year.

Dear Guest,

Firstly I am most alarmed that you would consider that you had been 'conned' kindly allow me to explain ; in your welcome letter that you receive when you check in, your all inclusive privileges are clearly explained.

It is unfortunate to hear that you didn't like your room however you will be delighted to know that we are currently in the progress of room renovation. I do hope that you will be back soon and you overall enjoyed your stay with us,

regards

Our two weeks at the Sierra Hotel in Soho Square Sharm, was the best holiday so far! From The welcoming staff, to the staff all over the hotel, including the friendly gardeners they were welcoming every morning. The staff, especially Rhani, a very polite, pleasant young man, who couldn't do enough for us in the Crystal Lounge, and the staff in the Queen Vic, just made our holiday! Our days spent on the beach were made very special by the staff including the lifeguards, in particular Sherif Ahmed who kindly gave us both confidence with snorkling, which was awsome! He also was very polite and attentive, as were the catering staff at the snack bar on the Sierra Beach. We were particularly impressed by the hard working waiters in the Restaurant in the Sierra especially Mohamed Ahman (with glasses) hope i got his name right? Definatly booking next February 2015. Would recommend this holiday to all my friends and family. Thankyou Egypt you lovely people!!!! ( we also met some lovely people who made our holiday extra special! hope to see them next year??)

we booked here because of the location, with somewhere to walk safely day and night it was perfect.free entertainment, plenty shops to browse, though not the cheapest.i think this is what gave the hotel 5*.rooms were average though very noisy, the design of the whole complex gives no soundproofing what so ever.the pool areas of which there is many were lovely, kept clean and tidy, plenty sunbeds and nice towels, and yes as many say sunset pool and mina a blessing.although sunset is adult only, which is a must anywhere in my opinion, the surrounding rooms are not adult only, which kind of defeats the object of zoning.we asked to change rooms to block three thinking it would be quite,no problem changing rooms, reception were helpful.as for the restaurant, this is where it goes downhill big style.food was never hot, even when first put out,not a lot of variety, not a lot of flavour either to anything.the best was the pasta station,it was cooked to your liking while you wait.each nite was a theme night but unless the poster outside the door telling you what it was you would never of guessed.so very random.as for the waiters, slow, lazy, miserable, without any guidence, they just didnt know what to do.the fact that it is the only restaurant on the complex would make this whole complex 3*.perhaps this is why thomson dont have sierra in its portfolio.the two eateries and two bars in soho square you can use for free were an asset,to get away from the hotel was needed.only one bar in eve in lobby but very limited seating and again very noisy.would reccomend the savoy highly,we used the italian there with 35% discount and it was worth every penny.i have never been in an italian so lovely, setting, atmosphere service, everything was 100%.if going back to sharks bay that would be my only choice, the savoy.the beach area for sierra is the pits, standing right alongside savoy beach,we felt like the poor relations and left after half hour.having travelled a lot and worked in the travel industry,i am an honest reviewer, negative and positive.to sum up,we had a lovely holiday, cos we make the best of everything,we would not return to sierra,i cant work out why it has 5* the same as savoy, there is little evidence to suggest this.it was not a cheap holiday,we have stayed in egypt twice for the same money and had far far superior within the last two years.NICE HOTEL BUT NOT 5*.

Dear Guest,

If you have worked in the travel industry you will be aware that 5* hotels can vary a lot in quality and price. At the 5* Four Seasons in Park Lane, Central London you will pay upwards of £450 sterling per person per night B&B. In Sharm El Sheikh there are several different categories of 5* hotels and the Sierra is a 5* Family Hotel and is accredited as such internationally for its excellent level of service.

Our staff our dedicated to providing guest satisfaction, they work very hard and put in a huge amount of effort, however they are, at the end of the day, human. The hotel has been running at a very high occupancy and ensuring that all our guests have their needs met could possibly have left one or two of our restaurant staff feeling overwhelmed, which is not an excuse, i do apologise if that was the case, but as you said you have worked in tourism so I am sure you will be understanding of such situations.

There are a lot of places to eat in the resort including Soho Square where there are several bars and restaurants included in the all-inclusive.

The beach for the Sierra is next to the Savoy beach. Same sand, same sea, same sunshine, same everything. Quite why it is “the pits” I’m not sure.

Kind regards,
