“Family celebration to Grand Rotana”
Reviewed April 20, 2013

We had high expectations of our trip to Grand Rotana. It really did live up to all of them. It was a great place to celebrate a family birthday. Te age range was 12 to 79 and there was something for everyone. The location was fantastic. With great snorkelling and diving facilities. We took advantage of the sports facilities from the banana boat to the camel diving school. Could not recommend highly enough. One to one tuition which ensured my 12 year old nephew had the time of his life learning to scuba dive. Diving with a turtle was a once in a life time experience. The hotel was laid out really well with a sense of calm. The spa and gym facilities were brilliant. Fantastic hotel with everything you could want. The food in the main dining room was ok although the dinner options were very limited and stew based, which suited those who prefer stews! The all inclusive option was very good value with an excellent choice of restaurants. Shame the beach bar and crepe restaurant closed at 5. This was far too early. Staff went out of their way to assist. Always greeting you with a smile and willing to go the extra to ensure your stay was as comfortable as possible. I would highly recommend the Grand Rotana.

Firstly, I had read all the reports about this hotel and had high expectations. We arrived quite late and received a great welcome. The locatioin is fabulous and the pool area stunning. The jetty is a great way (the only way) to get into the sea to swim. It is scarely deep so if you are a nervous swimmer/snorkler like I am, it's a bit traumatic :). Saw a few fish but much less that other resorts where you could walk into the sea and swim round the coral. The rooms are great and clean and maybe a bit tired but we found the services good. All the waiters/service guys treated us well and nothing was too much trouble, if a little slow.
The food in the main restaurant Rameses - the cold salad stuff was OK. The "hot food" was only just tepid. Some people say the food is great, I wonder what they eat at home? Some of the meat was unrecognisable! Needless to say,we ate in the other restaurants for our evening meals which came with a surcharge. If you are all inclusive, you can only use one bar in the evening which can be noisy at times.
WiFi and broadband in the room - very expensive - it should be free.......
Would I go again - no. Would I recomend it - yes but do a B&B meal plan if possible and eat in the three "pay restaurants".

Room Tip: Block 6 is fairly close to all the amenities.

Last visited Rotana 3 years ago and were " fortunate" to be stranded for 5 extra days when the European flights were grounded due to the volcanic ash cloud from Iceland
While the rooms and some of the facilities have dated and become a bit tired the place in general is still a good 5* hotel . Pool areas and gardens are in excellent condition, I don’t think I have ever seen so many gardeners constantly working on the place .All of the staff are experienced and a measure of this is how many have been there for a long time .
We stayed Club Rotana which is worth paying a bit extra if you can stretch to it. It has a separate dining are where the breakfast is served rather than the buffet service in the main restaurant , soft drinks available through the day , cakes and sandwiches between 3 and 5 and canapés and complimentary alcoholic drinks between 6 and 8 .Canapes not really to our tastes , caviar etc but well presented . Private check in desk in club lounge , free WiFi in lounge which is not available through the hotel , Reda is the staff member who seems to make the place run so smoothly , very helpful .Club also supply a taxi pick up and drop off to the airport in top of the range cars which is a nice touch as the airport pick up are is a bit chaotic .
Silk Road restaurant is still superb and certainly one of the best in Sharm with special praise for Lead waiter Ibrahim , the Palms Beach bar is also very good with a fabulous location , excellent for lunch . The buffet is OK by buffet standards .
A couple of concerns , bar service in the Sky Bar was very poor , they prefer people not to come to the bar but we waited 15 minutes and no waiter came and the bar was not busy . Not good for an all inclusive service . Pool area service was poor , only 1 waiter for a very large area and we were not approached during our whole stay to ask if we wanted anything so we had to go to the bar which was always understaffed so the staff in there were always working flat out , minor issues but not 5* service .
Entertainment is geared toward the Italian guests , the animation team are Italian and don’t even bother saying hello to the non Italians which is a bit miserable .
Another concern was the confusing all inclusive , ultra all inclusive packages , I don’t think Rotana are deliberately trying to con guests but it does need explained more clearly
Ultra all inclusive is as it sounds , you can eat in any restaurant ( still need to book ) as many times as you like with all drinks included , all bar drinks included up to 12 midnight .
When we checked in we were given 3 vouchers and told we could eat for free in the restaurants using the vouchers ( there are Italian , Silk Road and Beach ) and outside this we would have to pay to use them at a reduced rate of 15USD each .What we didn’t realise was that the voucher was 1 per person per restaurant so that meant that we could only use 1 restaurant for free and then pay for the rest . Even at 45USD for 3 of us ( about £30) it was still good value with as much drinks as you can manage but if you think you have booked all inclusive and have to start paying it is a bit of a surprise . The all inclusive only applies to the buffet restaurant.
Overall , still a very good hotel if a little bit expensive , there are other similar hotels that are more reasonably priced .

Room Tip: Go Club Rotana

This is a fabulous hotel in a gorgeous setting, with great weather and first class facilities. The staff are always efficient, friendly and courteous and the restaurants offer a wide choice of excellent food for all the family. The rooms are luxurious and immaculately clean and the pools and beachfront are beautiful, with plenty of activity, but also lovely gardens and peaceful places to relax. There are attractive bars too, with good entertainment. Ideal for all ages, we will definitely go back again and have already been six times! On cold, wet days in the UK, it's just good to know it's there for next time!

Room Tip: Ask for a beachfront room at the C Lido end, as they look on to the palm lined seafront and are very...

We were very impressed with this resort. We stayed in connecting premier deluxe rooms, close to the sea and they were well-equipped and thoroughly cleaned everyday.

The swimming pool was stunning to look at but pretty cold (end March); however there's a small pool which is heated so we could have a splash around with the children (who adored the ice-cold water slide too). The onsite reef was brilliant and the sea weirdly was warmer than the pool; the hotel has a pier with easy-access steps over the edge of the reef and a pontoon too so it was easy to snorkel alongside all sorts of fish without harming the coral.

This is the first hotel we've ever stayed all-inclusive in and we were pleasantly surprised about the variety and quality of the food. The service was good too. We ate at the Seafood restaurant one evening which was a nice change from the main dining room.

There are lots of areas by the sea with plenty of sun loungers both there and round the pool so there were never any issues finding somewhere to laze about. We found that we enjoyed the snorkelling and splashing around so much we nev got as far as checking out the kids club or cartoon time for kids in the evenings. We did enjoy watching fire displays, belly dancing etc - there's a short show every evening at one of the bars.

It was a totally relaxing break and we'd all happily return to the hotel.

Among more than 50 hotels in different countries I tried before, this resort is truley the best regarding everything. Starting from quiet location, friendly receptionest, amazing view, cleanliness, honestly, everything. The one thing needed to be improved is the food variety in restaurant.
