“10 days holiday at the Grand Azrure”
Reviewed June 28, 2013

Just back from 10 days holiday at the Tropicana Grand Azure, we were a family party of six, all adults and we had 3 rooms. We arrived at the hotel at approx 11pm on the 15th of June, check in was quite efficient we quickly were escorted to our rooms, we were lucky enough to have aroom with a pool view, most rooms had aview but some were not so well placed and the outlook was a wall. First impression was that the room was very large and well equipped, the A/C worked very well but was a bit noisy on the highest setting, the mini bar was empty and remained empty for the holiday. There was a large screen TV with various channels with some good movie channels as well.

We were told that we could have a late dinner in the restaurant, but there was not much food available and what was available was poor.

The resort is very large with loads of beds so there is no problem getting a bed if you prefer a late lie in. By 7am a lot of the beds were reserved by towels, I thought this strange as I am a very early riser, I found out after a couple of days that the pool attendants will reserve your beds for you for a small tip. The hotel has it’s own private section of beach with a very long jetty that takes you out to the coral reef, I really enjoyed my daily walks out to the end of the jetty.

The main pool is large and the water was really warm, there is swim up bar and the bar service was good, there are three other pools but we stuck to the main pool as it was close to our rooms. The waiters were very polite and helpful, unfortunately you are constantly annoyed by people trying to sell you massages and excursions, it started out ok but it was getting to me as the holiday progressed and I had to quite firmly tell them no more.

There are a number of restaurants offering food from around midday, the food was okay but definitely not 5 star, I raised this with the Thompsons rep pointing out that the food was a weak point. There are Al Carte restaurants as well but again the food was below my expectations. We actually ate out 4 of the 10 nights the food at the hard Rock café was good and very reasonably priced.

The Main reception area / bar is nice, it is temperature controlled which was a god send as the weather is very very hot even in the evenings. The staff work really long hours so by the end of the day you could see they were tired which was very understandable, I had no issues with any member of staff.

My boys wanted to go to Nama bay I didn’t but I bowed to the pressure, it was an experience to say the least, that place is a mad house and I would not recommend it.

We took three excursions all booked by a local tour operator Falcon Tours which is just along from the hotel. The star gazing tour was okay but there wasn’t much star gazing, the glass bottom boat was better, but the best was the quad bikes we all had a ball.

To sum up I really enjoyed the holiday but I was disappointed by the quality of the food, it was more what I would expect from a three star

PS watch out for the mozzies

just arrived bk on Thursday from this hotel.....it was AMAZING......ignore negative reviews,as who cares about a little flakey paint.

firstly our rooms were lovely,we overlooked the noisy pool, but to be fair it wasn't that noisy, the room was spotless few bits mildew in bathroom but that cant b helped, loads wardrobe space and drawers, then our cases arrived from reception very quickly.and as we had a delay goin over we just unpacked n went to bed,......we woke up to goin out the patio door on to a double balcony so fantastic weather and views.....it was paradise.
we went to beach first day.....a lot of hassle down there from spa, divers and excursion men all wantin a bit of commission(defo cheaper else where).,,,apart from that beach and jetty gorgeous.....food served most of day and drinks.Next day we tried the noisy pool bad idea as the Russians defo took over this pool so we lasted a few hours and found the quiet pool(where we then went rest of holiday)which was great...even had our towels down for us coming to the pool, remembering our drinks etc,,,,,,excellent service there.
food was fantastic.....we ate in the buffet restraint breakfast n lunch....and if u cant find something u like in there then Wow u must b a fussy eater. In the evening we ate in the a la carte restraunts once again great food and service....these guys are always so happy to see you so big thanks to khled an hami.......we also went out a few times mcdonalds bein the best and Hard Rock café in nabq bein the worse as we got ripped of £140 for fast food was shocking and burger was under cooked.so my advice is don't use it.
we did a couple of trips which we booked through falcon just to the right of the hotel......a lot cheaper than hotel we paid 55 per person for dolphins and only 35 per couple for dessert buggies with private tour guide...FANTASTIC HIGHTLY RECOMMEND ..we also paid them to take us to old market then on to soho square and it was on £30 for both and we weren't rushed at all.try the ice bar in soho square was 17.50 but well worth the experience.
the only down side of this holiday was the entertainment team......they didn't even look at us for 2 weeks they were full of there own importance ....my daughter n bf would have loved to have went clubbing at night but didn't even realise the reps offered this till someone else told them on our last evening.

overall.....this was a great holiday and hotel and service was great....just the animation let it down but I would defo return to this place.

Room Tip: we had rooms 6201 and 6203 and they were great as they r mid way between everything

My family and I came back last Wednesday 19/06/13 from this hotel where we had stayed for 2 weeks.
We generally had a very nice holiday here but there were a few bad points which wouldn't take a lot for the hotel management to sort out.....these were :
1) The main bar which is just off the lobby is quite often very busy and can take some time to get served. There are usually a lot of bar staff on but they always seem to be rushed off their feet serving other people.
2) Main bar ran out of tomato juice and ice on the same night on the hottest day we had there (47 degrees) and refused to get any from their sister hotel across the road or buy some from the shop in the lobby. (poor service from a hotel of this size I think )
3) There are waiters taking drinks orders out by the main patio but on busy nights take too long to return.
4) Main restaurant- many people complained that the food was of poor quality and not enough choice.....- my family and I ate very well but this was only because we upgraded before going at a higher cost which meant we ate in a lovely restaurant with fab food and had a suite room.
5) Spa expensive when you have the full package approx £72 each so beware !
5) Entertainment terrible so be prepared to make your own !
6) Terrible hairdriers in rooms so take one if you decide to go.

We had a lovely holiday here and the place has fantastic grounds with very lovely staff but for the reasons above, I don't think I'd return....hope this review helps

Having read some of the reports, i was bit unsure what to expect. However, didn't take long to find out!
Arrived at 11:30 pm. Reception cetainly has the wow factor if you don't look to close at the decor and the state of the tables & chairs), after checking in was told to stand in a corner with everyone else until someone came for us. No welcome drink, no welcome to Sharm. Eventually after about 10 mins taken to room, and told there was something to eat in the main restaurant. This consisted of the leftovers from the earlier dinner, some of which had been scraped onto 1 dish. There was a chef cooking eggs & when asked if he could do an omelette he replied he was preparing breakfast and not allowed to cook for us!! although we could get as much water as we wanted!!
Next day, breakfast bunfight in main restaurant. Tables were dirty and had leftover meals on most of them. (this we found was not unusual) We had to request a clean table, & then cutlery. Reasonable selection of food but to queue up like a works canteen was not what I expected of 5* hotel.
A la carte restaurants were ok & the 'British' restaurant is a big plus - steer clear of Marrakesh main restaurant if possible.
The whole place looks in need of refurbishment & even talking to people who had been 2 or 3 times previously, they also said that a lot of money needed spent on the place.
Local drinks are horrendous, so stick to cocktails, the 'fruit juice'(powdered flavoured water!!) covers up the bitterness.
All in all, for me it gets an ok, but not at the price they are asking for it- at best it is a 3*.
A note of warning, if you do not like getting stopped every 2 minutes and physically forced towards everybodys shop 'just to have a look - no bloody hassle' only to emerge 45 minutes later if your lucky - i wouldn't recommend heading up the street outside the hotel, unless its to the Pharmacy to help with the dicky tummy that evey other person seemed to come down with at some point.
VIP cruise & snorkelling is a must.
Naama Bay - no way, there were people actually locked in shops!!
Cairo & Luxor - great if you fancy getting picked up at 4am and reurned at 11pm
Soho square- no hassle fixed prices - but beware and ask price of drink before you order.

and on top of this our flight home was cancelled, and we got stuck in poor quality hotel for another day.

Room Tip: The resort is huge & walking from reception, where main bar is to beach will easily take 15 minu...

Well what can I say........we had a fantastic holiday :) We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday there and would definitely go back. It's highly recommended to anybody thinking of going.

The food was excellent and the choices were vast. All of the staff are friendly and always want to help.

Wonderful holiday, Sharm is fabulous and guaranteed sunshine.

Room Tip: We had a superior twin room. It was very large, spacious, plenty of storage and always clean.

Firstly I would have given the hotel 5 stars had it not have been for Thomson who really have gone down hill as a company.
The flight was delayed and no entertainment for a 5 and half hour flight is ridiculous! As well as this the air steward told us that if we wanted to go a trip to Cairo it would cost £15 at the airport, as once in resort it could be from £10 more. We wasn't 100% sure if we wanted to go on Cairo excursion so we thought a tenner more in resort was a better saving than losing £15 if we didn't go. However once we went to book the trip the Rep told us it would cost us £90 EACH! With lots of rubbish how they had to book a private cab to go to the airport and get it for us. We definitely didn't pay £180 between both us for two £30 visas, the 24/7 helpline confirmed this was their procedure.
We believed they just wanted quick profit so chose to not book any excursion with them and went to Falcon just down the road (5 stars on Tripadvisor from over 600 reviews), we booked quad biking for £15 (or £33 with Thomson) and Red Sea Cruise for £20 (£39 with Thomson), for exactly the same excursion.

Onto the hotel itself, it was incredible. The grounds were beautiful and clean, the rooms were very clean and with three swimming pools. One pool was a massive lagoon style with shallow water, one had animation and entertainment throughout the day and the other one was a quiet pool with no music-the plus to this pool is no one is allowed to hassle you here, as at the other pools you get people from the spa etc trying to sell you a treatment every 5 mins. So do what we did and set up base at quiet pool and go venture to other pools for swimming!

There is a private beach for Grand Azure guests and the longest jetty in Nabq at 800m! The way is shallow with it reaching just past your knees at it's very deepest point. Great for snorkelling as there are hundreds of fish!

There are two main restaurants, the Marrakesh one for breakfast, lunch and dinner, lots of variety and choice, including theme nights and food being cooked in front of you.
The Tropicanna restaurant on the beach serves stone baked pizzas and pasta for lunch, and in the evening serves a buffet for Thomson only guests which is great to get away from the busyness in the main restaurant.
There are also 4 al a carte restaurants that you must book at 10am that day or the day before, and you get unlimited visits. The food was lovely and had waiter service so was a nice change from buffet.
As well as this there are lots of snack bars around the hotel serving food all day, if you land in Sharm late the hotel serves a later dinner from 11.30pm till late which is great if you land at 10pm like we did and our starving!

At night lots of entertainment in an amphitheatre, a shisha tent on beach and a few quiet bars/lobby area around hotel if you would rather just chat and play cards with some music.
Very friendly staff who worked extremely hard to make you laugh and give you a great service, never asking or looking for tips-only the luggage and al a carte restaurants really asked.

Overall this was an amazing holiday that was great for us as a young couple but it was suited to couples and families alike.

Room Tip: Ask for a room near the main restaurant to be in the middle of everything, it has an equal walking d...
