This was our third visit to the Hotel Fayrouz & as usual the staff could not do enough for us. Every member of staff from beach, through pool to restaurant & housekeeping is polite, respectful and helpful.

However, the choice for half board guests is now limited to only one of the hotel restaurants, The Wadi, which although good, becomes a bit mundane after a few days.

The garden rooms are looking rather tired & would benefit from fresh paint, new TV's & in some cases new internal doors. There is now wifi around the whole resort but it all costs by the hour/day. (It works out much cheaper to pay by the day).

The spa does excellent treatments, but they are expensive & bartering is essential! There is also a gym which is a good size & most if the equipment works.

The proximity to the beach is the Fayrouz's sp-it's right on the beach & therefore very handy for water sports & sunbathing.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay - apart from frustrating problems with the intermittent internet service. The staff were friendly and helpful and the setting was delightful. Breakfasts were especially well done. Evening dining was also good - but there were a lot of other restaurants nearby to explore.

Went a few months ago to the Hilton Fayrouz with two friends of mine--pleasant stay, fantastic price, but this hotel definitely has room for some improvement. I don't necessarily consider this a luxury hotel (or even a hotel on par with most Hilton beach resorts), but we only paid $95 a night. Considering how impossibly cheap that is, I think this hotel was a very great bargain.

The good:

The hotel grounds were simply gorgeous--beautifully landscaped. The exterior of the buildings are beautiful and the rooms themselves had a great layout: they're semi-attached bungalows, in rows of about 4, all with nice doors out to a little terrace. The back of our bungalow faced one of the tiny pools, so we had easy access to that, as well as the lounge chairs.

Service was also very nice. This might be the Egyptian culture at large, but seriously, everyone we met was very helpful and very warm--definitely helped make the stay memorable. On our last night, housekeeping had folded towels into a giant swan on the bed, which we absolutely adored--what a great whimsical touch.

Location is perfect. It's right on the promenade, so two steps from the beach, you're surrounded by a boardwalk with restaurants and beach bars on both sides. The guys with menus were quite aggressive--tourism is so down that we couldn't really begrudge their sales techniques--but it was great having so much nearby. And the main drag in Sharm is a few blocks away as well, with shops, hookah bars, the Hard Rock Cafe, et al. The hotel itself was very quiet--though helped by the fact that it was pretty empty--but very close to the action.

And quite possibly the best thing about the hotel: the beach, which was stunning. One of the nicest beaches I've seen, and the sole reason this hotel got a fourth star from me. On our first afternoon, we were surrounded by beautiful tropical fish even when we waded in maybe a foot of water. So awesome. There were also lots of chairs (albeit they were old, and more than a few were slightly broken) and lots of palapas to sit under. Beach bar was right nearby, and while the menu was your standard resort fare, the food was consistently tasty and reasonably-priced. There was also an activities kiosk, which was convenient--we got taken out in a boat to go snorkeling, and our guide, Mohammed, was hilarious and absolutely fantastic: another great person at the Hilton.

The bad:

Hotel itself is pretty run-down, as a lot of the reviews have said. From the looks of it, it was last renovated about 20 years ago: rooms have teal couches, tube TVs, bathrooms had some cracked tiles and missing grout. Lobby was small and utilitarian--just a front desk and one small seating area, definitely not a place to congregate--and had a small patio that was a little better, but not especially welcoming. We didn't go to the Pirates Bar, but it's the first thing you see when you pull up to the circle drive and it honestly looked a little chintzy for the lobby bar at a beachfront Hilton.

The main pool was also disappointing. It had a swim up bar, which was nice, but otherwise it's small, cold, and buried in the interior of the hotel--so no ocean view, and felt very much like an afterthought. The jacuzzi, as we found out, was at one of the smaller pools near the lobby--but it was pool temperature at best, and the water level was so low that the jets were exposed above the waterline. So the jacuzzi was utterly useless, which was disappointing, because it would've been a nice place to relax.

Wifi worked very well (even on the beach) but it was very pricey. And, worse, you only got one device--for the three of us to each hook our phones up to wifi, we were dropping about $40 per day, which is pretty outrageous considering the price of the room.

And while the service was always friendly, there wasn't that attention to detail that I'd expect from a Hilton or a four star hotel. I asked someone at the front desk (because no one was manning the concierge desk) for a restaurant recommendation and he couldn't offer more than: "Just walk down the promenade and there's a lot of stuff." There was also a maid's cart sitting, unmoved, in the middle of the pathway near our bungalow for literally the entire three days of our trip, which was odd. And, at the beach, our dirty plates and glasses from lunch would still be sitting on our chairs by the time we left several hours later every day--no one came to pick them up.

Final thoughts:

Sharm was our last stop on a two-week Middle East vacation that was running close to the top of our budget, so we were trying to keep costs down--we figured that the Hilton, which was cheaper than other branded 4-star properties and had a great location on the promenade that would mean no dinnertime cab fares, would be the best choice. We also heard it had the best beach in Sharm--no arguments there--which was a major draw.

With those parameters, yeah, the Hilton was a great choice. At the time, I personally wanted to pay another $30 a night or so to get a more luxurious hotel (I was overruled by my friends) and I still stand by that, in retrospect. But considering the great price we paid--again, just $95--we had a very nice stay.

Went with the kids for a week during Xmas, and it was great weather, amazing beach, excellent hotel & fantastic staff as usual :)
We spent the week between the beach & the pool near the lobby (we tried once the pool near the rooms building, but was a bit cold for the kids)!
Had our breakfast everyday at Al-Wadi restaurant (very friendly chefs & waiters) .... and our lunch/dinner were either at the Italian beach restaurant or sometimes we went to the "promenade area" to eat some fast food!
The whole trip was great and will do it again and again and again .... !
** I have also taken some photos with my new camera & will post it here :)

Room tip: Don't miss the Egyptian night dinner at el-Wady restaurant, with the live show ... FANTASTIC :)
