We're a couple in our late 20s and we booked a week's all inclusive deal here. Here's how it went.
The hotel itself is impressive. The resort complex is large and beautifully kept. The swimming pools are gorgeous, especially the headed pool with a pool bar at the back of the resort. If you're a couple looking for a romantic place, ask for rooms in the 70xx area near the pool bar. It's beautiful to swim there in light or dark - but unfortunately the pools close at 7pm due to chemical processing - I think they could have made that midnight or something. The food is also very reasonable with several choices of 3 courses, 3 times a day, considering they have to scale to accommodate the number of guests, really, the food itself is ok. The hotel restaurants have much better food but of course, not included. We were also pleased with 2 vouchers for a free meal in 2 of the hotel restaurants.
As a previous review states, this hotel is let down by the staff. The staff genereally come there to work flat out during season, earn as much as they can, working 7 days a week, 12 hours a day with little rest. As a consequence they are busy, stressed and grumpy... unless you TIP.
The dining area for all inclusive guests leaves a lot to be desired. Many tables are wobbly. The cutlery and dishes are disgusting - grubby with bits and splodges. For a supposedly 5-star hotel, this is not acceptable. Another niggle is that people are not encouraged to be clean there. People regularly take way more that they can manage, leave 3/4 plate fulls to be thrown away and make a mess in the serving areas. The waiters, already stretched, have to keep up with cleaning the buffet - but they should be more on it than they are. Personal opinion is that people should be made to pay extra for wasting food. They do this in Asia.
Tip, tip tip
The difference in experience we got before and after tipping was AMAZING. We tipped in our room, and the bed was made with fresh flower petals from the grounds and a towel in the shape of a love heart. We tipped a waiter in the dining hall, and he became OUR waiter; asking if everything is OK, remembering our drinks, and generally hovering attentively. We tipped the bar guy at the pool and suddenly our drinks tasted way better, made with love, and brought out to us. We tipped the hotel bar guy, he became OUR hotel bar guy, bringing us snacks with the drinks to our sofa. If you want to be treated well, tip EARLY and GENEROUSLY. Bear in mind what they earn as hotel service staff and give them something that will make them happy. You'll see the difference and you will be treated like you're the only guests there.
Massages were mediocre (unless you tip). I think my girl was tired all the time and didn't put her heart into it. The Spa's Jacuzzi had grime in it. Yuck. The Spa staff are out in the resort gardens waiting to pounce on you with their "good deals". HAGGLE IT DOWN HARD. The sauna is pretty good though. The Hamam was good too.
If you can book in advance and get a good deal on this hotel, it's worth it. Have a tipping budget. I would not pay top dollar for it though. I rate service OVER surroundings... and it's only the service that lets this place down.
