Hilton Sharm Waterfalls Resort
Ranked #52 of 231 Hotels in Sharm El Sheikh
Reviewed July 7, 2013

The night before my girlfriend and I left England for our 2 week holiday, I had 1 final look at trip advisor and feared the worst as the first 2 reviews were quite negative! These fears were quickly put to rest once we arrived.

Checking in was a painless process with helpful staff at reception, who arranged for our bags to be taken to our room and we were given a golf buggy ride to our room. We were offered to upgrade to a sea view room but politely declined.

Our room - 3105 was nice and clean. It had a big bed, free safety deposit box and a sea view as well as a garden view. It was located near the bottom of the resort, close to the beach. The rooms were cleaned daily with fresh towels. Most days the cleaners would leave the towels folded into various objects - birds, boats, hearts.

The food was egyptian style in the main buffet restaurant with a different theme each day. We always found something to eat. Breakfast was 'English' hot food with a good selection of cold breakfast items - croissants, cereal, yogurt, salads. There was also the option to have a freshly cooked omelette or fried eggs.
Within the resort was the option to eat in 3 a la carte restaurants. These were just as tasty and provided a nice alternative from the main buffet restaurant.

There are plenty of pools for you to choose to relax by. The 'main' pool is salt water which we used once, but spent most of our time around the 'Chillax 'pool, as this was fresh water and a kid free zone! Samy the beach boy was very helpful during our stay. He was always friendly and would get us some sun beds by the pool. He would also offer us ice cold towels as well as ice cold spray throughout the day, which was most refreshing.

The Chillax pool also had a swim up pool bar. This was where we met the fantastic barman Mohammed Nezam. He would make fabulous cocktails which were both on and off the all inclusive menu. He was always happy and would make sure we never had an empty glass!
There are about 6 others bars on the resort. A nice bar to relax of an evening is the 'shish bish lounge' bar. This is outside, so beware of the mosquitos! George the barman was so friendly and helpful and my girlfriend really liked that he remembered her name.
At the 'On The Rocks' bar, the barman there, Waleed, was really funny and would always make you smile. He was very entertaining, a right character who could also make a great cocktail.

The diving and snorkeling was amazing and is a must for everyone! The resort has 2 jetties that lead out to the edge of the coral. From here you can jump into the sea and see many different types of colourful fish. It really is a sight not to be missed.

Overall, a great hotel with super staff. Some of who we will never forget. We would definitely go back and would recommend it to anybody. It was a fantastic holiday made even more special by Samy, George, Mohammed Nezam and Waleed.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are slightly bigger than garden rooms, but garden rooms are just as good.

A fantastic hotel with great staff - I have never considered visitng the same hotel twice, preferring to go to different places, but I would definitely come back to

the Hilton Sharm Waterfalls.

FOOD
Buffet restaurant La Cascade was smaller than I was expecting, based on previous AI hotels I've stayed in, and seemed busy at peak times, but fine if you were early

eaters like us. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast is the same every day, with a good selection of breads, continental and "English" breakfast foods.

There's even an Arabic section with ful mesdames if you want to eat breakfast as the Egyptians do. Fresh and carton juices are available and the guys serving coffee

are cheery. A great start to the day. There's even overviews of the news, in different languages, available for reading.
I only had lunch at the buffet once or twice. For me, the highlights were the salads - baba ganoush, tahina and flatbread being all you really need. Dinners tended to

follow a similar theme - a meat dish, a fish dish, a chicken dish and a vegetable dish served with variations of rice, but again, various salads were available, plus a

roast area, a BBQ area and always at least two pasta dishes cooked live. There were some more unusual dishes which I wouldn't have tried from a menu (camel kofta being one that sticks in my mind) so is a great opportunity to experience new flavours. Though I wouldn't have camel again!
Big praise to the hostesses Naema and Dina who always greeted us with a smile and found us the best available table. My husband was ill for a couple of days (not the food - possibly the sun) and Naema was so kind, offering me the opportunity to take food away from the buffet for him, and arranging with one of the chefs to have room service if needed, for which I was very grateful.

We enjoyed all three a la carte restaurants. Shish Bish was open for dinner only and is Bedouin style, so you sit on rugs on the floor. We were very lucky with our

timings and had an amazing view of the bright new moon rising over the sea. Food here was good, but basic - grilled lamb, chicken or vegetables served with rice or

cous cous. We enjoyed it, but only visited once as we felt we'd exhausted the limited menu. It was a great experience - I would recommend wearing insect repellent as I

think I got bitten a lot in the outside setting. Paradise Reef for lunch served things with chips - burgers, hot dogs, fish etc. The highlights here for me were the

more Arabis style food like Hawawshi and Shawerma, eaten with a view of the pool or the sea. Dinner here was mixed - the first night we went, we were really excited by

the more Arabic style food - I had some really good fresh fish - but some of the dishes were less to our taste, for example the calamari which was stewed in a tomato

sauce. It was probably good if you like that kind of thing, but the texture wasn't to our liking.
Finally - Verdis Italian. This was very good. As we upgraded to Ultra AI, we were able to have lunch here and probably worked through most of the menu! For starters,

the breaded eggplant and breaded mozzarella dishes were probably our favourite, though I also enjoyed the interesting tuna and orange pasta salad. Mains like calamari,

lasagne, various pizzas and calzone, fish and quail were all very good. Service here was excellent, and we loved that they decorated our table when we both celebrated

birthdays during our stay.

BARS
We primarily visited the Chillax Bar by the pool, and Latinos and Cafe Shalalat. Service at all of these was good and friendly, and we were recognised after a couple

of days which made us feel really welcome. Lager and wine was acceptable and we tried cocktails with both the local spirits and the imported (as our upgrade to Ultra

AI allowed us to have imported vodka/rum/gin/whisky) and they were fine either way. Because we'd had some issues with our wristbands and been refused service, M. Ehmad (who we met first in Latinos, but then moved to Cafe Shalalat) took us under his wing and looked after us with a warm welcome and great cocktails.

ROOM
We booked a sea view room and were in 2307 from which we could see the sea and the pool, but was far enough away from the pool and Shish Bish to be quiet, perfect for

us. Access to all areas of the hotel from the room was easy as the funicular had a stop right outside our block. We were very happy with the room, which was a nice

size and included a large king size bed, a sofa, a flat screen TV and plenty of storage space. It was cleaned thoroughly each day, and we had a variety of towel art

which made us smile. The hotel and its grounds are designed in such a way that, from my room, I couldn't see any other hotel rooms and really reinforced the idea of

being at home.

POOLS
Nice pools and they are accessible from early in the day (other hotels I've stayed at have tended to have a set opening time, usually around 8). We mainly used the Chillax pool, though did visit the main pool and health club pool. You do get the health club guys trying to flog stuff but we pleasantly said we weren't interested and they went away nicely. Every so often, the pool attendant would bring iced towels around which is one of those things that is simple but makes such a difference to perception of the hotel.

REEF
The reef here is amazing, and very simple to snorkel along. The sea is relatively calm, and I saw some amazing sites. I was so blown away by the sealife, I booked a trip to Ras Mohamed - and saw nothing different than I'd already seen at the Waterfalls! The floating jettys do take a bit of getting used to at high tide.

SHOPS
There are a few shops here - silver merchant, jewellers, perfume shop, "general store" and a papyrus shop (though this is tucked out of the way). We only really visited the herbal shop though, where the potions I got soothed my mosquito bites and prevented me getting any more! The guy there speaks great English and was so helpful.

AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT
- Internet - there's a fairly old-fashioned system by which you have to get a scratch card from reception to get a limited-time connection code for wireless access,

which is only accessible from the lobby. We discussed this with Aly at the feedback session and he told us they are putting in some short-term improvements in the next

couple of months, removing the need to get a code from reception, but there won't be any major changes for a year due to a tie-in with iBahn. I didn't have a major

problem in not being connected all of the time, but it was nice to know that this is an area the management are looking at.
- Confusion over AI. We seemed to cause confusion with our upgrade to Ultra AI - one barman told us we couldn't have a drink as we needed to have a red wristband. We

ate happily in Verdis at about 12:30 for lunch a number of times as our list had indicated lunch was from 12 here, and then one day were randomly told it didn't open

until 1. No-one seemed entirely sure what was/wasn't included in breakfast and dinner room service (the description we had just said it was from a limited menu) or to

be included in the minibar. We did find the AI a little confusing all round, some things were included at some times and others not, and each time we ate at the a la

carte restaurants we did get a bit of a heavy sell to buy the additional menu, or the premium wine. The Waterfall's AI concept is great - and food and drink are

available 24 hours, which I have never come across before - but the management could maybe put some thought in to how give more clarity to the programme.
- Water. Every AI I have ever stayed at before has bottled water available to guests to grab wherever they are. Though we had bottled water in the room each day, it

tended to be glasses of water served at bars and we both found ourselves not drinking enough water in punishing heat (I think this may have been why my husband was

ill) in order to ration what we had for later or for the morning. This was especially evident in the mornings when the pool bar didn't open until 10am and we (though

not everyone) were reluctant to traipse through reception in our swimming gear to get a cup of water from the Cafe!

HOTEL AS A WHOLE
Great hotel and grounds - smaller than we were expecting, though it seems very large - probably because of the steps! I would think twice before bringing a child's buggy here or visiting if I had movility problems. The size does mean it feels very intimate though.
We did visit the health club for a couple of treatments. One was an after-sun moisturising wrap (we'd seriously underestimated the strength of the sun in June) and one was a back and neck massage. A lady called Nour did both my treatments and they were lovely and though there was a bit of a language barrier we had a nice chat.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary at the Waterfalls, as well as both celebrating birthdays, and were amazed when we had cakes delivered to the room for each occasion, which was a really nice touch.
About five days in to our stay, we were invited to Latinos to talk to the management team about our impressions of the hotel; we had a lovely conversation with Aly and

were encouraged to give both positive feedback and talk about areas where we felt improvements could be made. I travel a lot and I have never come across this kind of

opportunity before. What a privilege for an organisation like Hilton to show they really care about their customers.

A great hotel. The staff are a credit to the organisation and I will definitely consider going back.

Room Tip: We chose to pay extra for a sea view and were very happy with 2307. The hotel is quite compact thoug...

i booked for a week in April 2013. there were 3 of us in the room but the room was plenty big enough - there were 2 double beds and a sofa bed which was very comfy and was bigger than a single, the bathroom was huge too.

there are several pool areas which cater for all guests - the adult only pool at the top of the hil is ideal if you want a relaxing holiday.

the food is a good quality for an all inclusive - there does seem to be a lack of variety though. we ate in all three of the booked restaurants and they were all excellent.

the staff were superb - freindly and helpful

highly recommended!

Firstly I have to talk about the kids club. It's brilliant. A purpose built nursery school style building with lovely people and so much for the kids to do. Very well organised too. My 4yo loved it and it was her favourite place to be, mostly due to the extensive Disney DVD collection and Disney toys. She got a little gift to take away too each time. I felt totally safe leaving her there while my partner and I went a walk the local outdoor mall.

The food here is great although like everything after the tenth day I would have been fed up if it weren't for the lovely a la carte restaurants. The traditional Bedouin one was great, my daughter loved the baba ganoush, it was so fresh and full of flavour. The nearby rooftop style bar was lovely too overlooking the views all around.

Animation team was good especially at the mini disco. The shows at night are definitely worth a look for some fun and a couple drinks.

The pools were lovely, never too crowded. Never went to the adult only pool, mostly because ironically that's where most of the childish behaviour was but it was nice to have it to keep rowdier guests away from the families.

My only gripes were 1. Not enough toilets. There's sometimes a fair distance to walk to the nearest toilet.

2. The ants. Oh my god they were the size of cats. My daughter got eaten alive. I never get bitten by Mosquitos or midges or anything but these ants really went to town. The little ones were all over our balcony chairs sometimes. Luckily the only places I as them were here and at the beach bar at night. I think there may have been a lot at the shisha a bar living in the rugs because my daughter fell asleep on one and was covered head to toe in bites. It looked like chicken pox!

The rooms are big, there's lots if water and your all inclusive does really far. I recommend snorkelling off the jetty and also budgeting for some excursions to break up the trip or you will regret it later. Book everything ASAP once you arrive to avoid disappointment.

Get a private transfer too, those buses are apparently a nightmare. Our private transfers was in a very nice big air conditioned car with a driver and a member of Hilton staff who told us so much info about Egypt and even got our daughter really into everything by quizzing her about camels.

Recently we booked the Hilton Waterfalls for a 40th Birthday excursion. We have visited this resort many times in the past and have always enjoyed our stay. I must say that this time was exceptional, the food was second to none, the service from all of the restaurants was amazing, the courtesy of ALL of the staff was impeccable (Many thanks to the two Ibrahim's) and all of the recommendations that we provided on our last visit was addressed. The cleanliness of the site was brilliant and I could not highly recommend any more - a truly wonderful stay and cannot wait to get back in the Autumn.
Also being a scuba diver the Ocean College dive centre located on the site again played a blinder with an amazing 8 days diving and again an impeccable time.
