“Out of this world, must go!”
Reviewed January 1, 2014

I travelled with my wife and 16 year old daughter to Sonesta beach from the 19th of December to the 30th of December. So we were there for Christmas and it was fantastic, resort is huge and for the first day or two we were getting lost. The food was amazing we ate at Le Dome restaurant every night and the service was great. Ahmed and Fady were the two young boys who served us breakfast, noon and night. They were so friendly and nothing was a trouble. My daughter loved them, we had a room near the cactus pool and that was where most of the British people were, we made so many lovely friends on the first day. The only thing was it says on the brocher said that the wifi is free, it is not! You must pay for it and you only get it in reception and the bar in reception you have to pay for the drinks. Especially being there over Christmas you want to contact family but it didn't bother us. The animation team were fantastic, My daughter loved Valantina, she done the aqua aerobics and a lot of other activities. Rashad from the cactus pool put our towels out every morning and was so so friendly. he is an amazing guy and he was a huge part of the holiday. Orealia from the animation team was lovely and sweet and so friendly. Meme for the oasis pool bar was so friendly and always greeted us with hugs and took time to sit and chat to us for ages. We plan on going back in summer and Christmas too. Any bad reviews about this hotel, these people must be very picky and strange.

Room Tip: I would recommend a room near the cactus pool and the bar is great for drinks and the bar staff from...

Staying at this resort from December 20st till December 30st ended up being one of the best Christmasses ever!
Wonderful resort with frienldy and very helpfull staff.

Rooms are large enough, bed is okay although matrasses could be thicker and everything is kept very clean.
Food is good: plenty of variety and of very good quality.
Fantastic and fanatic animation team with lots of activities.
If only the Russians would stay away (or behave as normal people) our holiday would have been perfect!

Special thanks go out to Hossam, Emad (we love your desert!) and Faisal ("Be good to yourself")!
Finally we would like to thank Mr Hazem Hassan for the wonderful attentions.

We will surely go back Christmas 2014.

Room Tip: Upgrade to the Royale; this is absolutely worth the money!

We have just returned from visiting Sharm for the first time. We travelled between 15th-22nd October. Upon arrival at reception we were welcomed with a cool refreshing drink. From the outside the hotel doesn’t look as grand, as it doesn’t have the fancy driveway and pillars like the other named hotels but once inside you will be surprised!!

I requested a room by the cactus pool after reading other reviews, we stayed in room 2705. Location was great as we could just step outside to the pool area from our room. The Cactus pool is where most of the Brits were, which was generally a quieter pool. If you fancy some music and activities the blue wave pool is close by too. There are many pools located around the complex you won’t be stuck for choice. Most of the main ones have swim up pool bar.
Our room was huge, dressing area to the right, leading into bedroom, lounge and further child’s bedroom area. The bed was big but really uncomfortable, a bit too firm and similarly the lounge furniture, but I suppose you don’t come on holiday to sit in your room all-day.

The hotel itself is lovely, it’s spread over a large complex with apartment blocks, and you will be walking through beautiful gardens to reach the many restaurants. The closest to the cactus pool is Le Dome, which is smaller than the main Citadel Restaurant, I found both offered a good quality and choice of foods for buffet type restaurants, it wasn’t just burgers, pizza and chips!! The waiter service was great they would seat you and serve your drinks swiftly and always very friendly. The Casablanca restaurant which serves Lebanese food this is also part of the all-inclusive and you require 24 hour prior booking. We tried the Tandoori restaurant (not part of the all-inclusive) and the food was so tasty one of the best Indians I’ve had. Wine is only served at meal time within the restaurants, it’s not available at bars, its only local beer, alcohol and cocktails.

Naama Bay is about 15/20 minute walk along the promenade, definitely worth visiting at night after 7pm this place comes to life. So many bars to choose from and very reasonable, great atomophere. I didn’t find the shop keepers were as pushy as the other reviews, a simple No thank you and continue walking seem to work. Taxi ride from outside the hotel to Naama is around £2-3. We also visited Soho Square again comes to life at night, has more of a up market vibe.

We did the following excursions:
Sand Buggies– great fun, if you’re not quite ready for quad biking.
1001 Arabian Nights dinner and show – traditional Moroccan meal following by shows including belly dancing.
Yellow submarine boat – You get to see the beautiful coral and fish underwater, definitely worth doing this one.

The only negatives were:
The entertainment team were a bit pushy at times, it would have just been nice to say NO once, same with the massage reps.
We visited during the Eid Festival, and the hotel was at its busiest, some of the Arabs were rude pushing into queues and letting their children run wild - Probably best to avoid coming at this time.
Air conditioning in the room was loud, I had to turn it off at night.
Some of the cocktails were not well made (Cactus pool had the best)
The wireless in the Lobby is not free as advertised, going rate is £4.00 for 30 minutes!! However there are many bars along the promenade offering free Wi-Fi.

Overall, for what we paid I found the hotel great value for money and would definitely consider visiting again.

Had a fantastic holiday there just before Christmas 2013. Hotel spotless, pools great, 2 of them being heated. Restaurants are out of this world, staff can't do enough to please you, very friendly & the Manager of them all is great. Our room was beautiful, ground floor and overlooked the Calypso Pool with its own terrace. Fantastic value for money & we would highly recommend it for anyone who just wants some r & r. If you want wifi then a quick walk up into the local town to Hard Rock Cafe, buy a drink & get their access code for free wifi.

Pros;
Wide selection of pools. We stayed around the Cactus pool as this is where all the English people tend to be, we emailed ahead of our stay to ask if we could have a room around this which they honoured! You get given towel cards on arrival and these are huge and fluffy. The pool bar was lovely a selection of around 8 cocktails/mocktails, milkshakes, pure orange but only one beer, but my boyfriend did like it. The pool and pool area was very clean and there was a wide selection of activities to keep you busy.
Activities ranged from darts, water volleyball, football, water darts (which was a huge favourite of everyone) aqua yoga, yoga the list was endless we loved the late night shows on stage very funny. There we're constant activities for children too but as we went as a couple I wouldn't know to list them.

Daily housekeeping was spot on. I'm very particular about cleanliness and tidiness so this was a bonus when the staff we're just as clean and tidy. They would organise our toiletries in the bathroom too. We had fresh towels and bedding everyday, room was spotless and bathroom however the shower curtain did tend to fall down twice but it is easily put back up! We we're able to store our bottles of water in the fridge, it was stocked of snacks but we did not touch them and we also stored our moisturisers in there too which was not a problem.

Huge room/living area; the room was huge with more than enough space especially for two people. In our room we had a huge bed, a single bed in a different room and a bunk bed in a different room. The living area had two seating areas and a blanket where the tv was. Although the signal was not the best it had a huge selection of channels including news, music and film. There was also a dressing room area, plugs situated perfectly next to bed each side and all mirrors. The wardrobes were huge and had extra pillows in. The bathroom had a hairdryer which could do the job if you had the patience otherwise take your own.

Restaurants had a huge selection of food for breakfast and dinner and lunch. We tried every restaurant in the resort and couldn't fault one. There is one restaurant you have to pay but get a discount for I cannot remember the name but it was absolutely beautiful we got the house curry and I would go back alone just for this! Deffinately recommend.

Cons;

The bed was ROCK HARD. Although it is huge we found ourselves having to try the other beds in the room as this bed was seriously hard I'm not sure about other rooms but it was slightly frustrating. However, we done trips etc of a day so when we got in from the pyramids etc we had no problem getting asleep, it could have just been a lot comfier.

The beach was not the best. We walked down and came straight back. The sun loungers are on top of one another there is no personal space I would not trust my bag whilst sunbathing there, the sand was not soft it had stones everywhere and it all just seemed a let down plus it's quite a walk. I also needed more sun screen and went the shop on site by the beach and they tried to charge my 300 Egyptian pounds which is £15 each! You can haggle but the cheek was just beyond me.

Tips;

Request a room by the cactus pool if you are travelling as a couple/adults. If you are travelling as a family then any pool will suit you fine.

Definitely save money to pay for one if the restaurants on site you have to pay for as this was my favourite meal.

Take enough sunscreen and request bottles of water from the pool bar if you are all inclusive and keep these in the fridge stocked to take on trips etc and brushing your teeth etc.

Request a ground floor apartment as there are no lifts and stairs quite steep!

Take a lot of stomach tablets!! Regardless of how careful you are you will need them, cannot say it is the hotels fault as we went on trips and ate outside the resort too but there isn't a person there who didn't need them.

Room Tip: Tips in review.

We have had a marvellous week in Sharm (5 / 12 to 12/12/ 2013), holidaying in the Sonesta Beach Hotel. The hotel is very comfortable, location is excellent, the pools and beach are clean and the restaurant service is exemplary. It is a beautiful hotel, not only architecturally, but in every sense.

All three main restaurants provide some of the cleanest, most colourful and delicious buffet - and one a la carte - meals. The waiters give excellent service, and the chefs prepare excellent and different variety of dishes throughout the week.

The room we occupied was always clean and well maintained. And the staff at both the pools and the beach are doing an excellent job. Plenty of sunbeds around the many pools and drinks and snacks are available all day from the pool bars.

The coral reef opposite the hotel beach and beyond (one of the main resort’s assets) is simply gorgeous. Snorkelling is a real pleasurable experience. Naama Bay attractions are within a walking distance (20 min) or in a taxi for less than £3.
.
All in all – my wife and I had a fantastic holiday in the Sonesta Beach Hotel. We will certainly come back. Although I was a bit worried before going, I am writing this to assure British and Western European visitors that Sharm is VERY SAFE and the Sonesta Beach Resort is wonderful.

We (family of 3, 2adults & 16yr old) stayed at the Sonesta Beach over Christmas and had a lovely relaxing time. However there were a few negatives that prevented a 5 score, so I'll start there:
Wifi: when travelling with a 16yr old social media access is more important than Sun!!, therefore to find that wifi was chargeable and not cheap at that was very disappointing. It is rare in this modern age where wifi access in hotels of 4&5star isn't free in specific areas. Across the road at small cafe there was free wifi as long as you bought a drink.
Charges for drinks in the lobby bar: in summer months this may not be a problem, however in Dec when the evening and night temps drop, the lobby bar was the only indoor bar available post 10pm. Sitting outside with hoddies and jackets and fighting to sit under the patio heaters isn't very comfortable but when faced with being charged for drinks in the lobby bar the hoddies & heaters won!!!
Check out: we checked out at 12noon and our luggage was collected from our room. We were shocked to find that our luggage was found at 4pm,when we went to shower and change to travel home, outside the hotel on the car park pavement. I presumed luggage was stored in a safe secure room. There was an iPad in the one bag, grrrr. When I complained I was informed that the security guard kept an eye on them. I went out and pretended to tamper with another persons suitcase and was not approached or even watched by the security guard.Think of that question at the airport," did you pack the bags yourself and has it been left unattended". To say we were concerned and angry was an understatement.

Now that's out of the way, the rest was excellent. The complex is huge and immaculate with the most friendly staff I have ever come across. Nothing was too much trouble and they remember everything about their guests. I'm embarrassed not to remember the name of the housekeeper allocated to our room but he was amazing.
Our room was situated near the Cactus heated pool and was spacious and comfortable. Yes it may be a little tired but we were happy with it. The Dec daytime temp was comfortable (24-27degrees) but the heated pool was the only one that people dared enter!!
All in all we wanted a relaxing week and got it at the Sonesta.
