“Can`t wait to go back”
Reviewed May 9, 2007

Returned a week ago and never return to the same place, hotel twice but will definately make an exception in this case. From the start the hotel was brilliant, food wonderful and staff really helpful. The waiting staff, cleaners and reception staff were great. We stayed on the main side but went across to the sports side a few times. The pool was initially cold but soon became very welcome with 40+ degrees temperatures. The beach is small but the snorkelling made up for that, the fish were so close and the water so clear it was better than the Barrier Reef. We lost 2 days due to a funny tummy and the immodium do not work on the bug that you pick up there, dirolyte were fine. Due to loosing 2 days, this holiday went so fast, we will go for 10/11 nights or 2 weeks next time instead of just a week. We did the flight to Cairo which after initial difficulties with flights, was a fantastic day. This was down to the group we went with, 7 of us Brits and 2 Norweigens, a nicer bunch of people we could not have wished to meet, so Gary, Marg, Yan, David, Claire, James and who ever else we missed, a big thank you, we will always remember that day and cherish the photos. It pays to shop around for trips and excursions, at the pool the lads with the clip boards and books come round and are cheaper than the authorised reps so shop around. We were initially concerned regarding the security in Egypt and indeed had put this destination off a few times before taking the plunge, but we needed not worry, security is tight and actually gives you the confidence in your surroundings.
Our room was lovely, cleaned spotlessly, as was the pools and all public areas. Food wise there is something for everyone. Entertainment was good and one of the funniest things we have ever seen was the Miss Concorde competition! All the entrants were Russian and some took it very seriously, we could not believe what we were watching and thought it was hysterical!! I wont spoil it for those going, but just go and watch it, its side splitting!!!! We were that impressed by this holiday that we have already made enquiries to go again and have recommended the Concorde el Salam to our family and friends.

I have just got back from Holiday staying at the Concorde El Salem Hotel in Sharm El Sheikh. If you have any reservations about about Egypt let me put your mind at rest. The hotel was spotless. I even had a tour of the kitchens and they were fantastic. The food was fab with loads of choice hot and cold which was NOT repetitive night after night. They even did steak & kidney pie one night with pastry to die for. The puddings all homemade were scrummy with at least 24 different sweets to choose from. They bake all of their own bread and the choice of breads and rolls alone was unbelievable. My daughter who is 12 yrs ate far more on holiday than she does at home and she is really fussy about her food.

Facilities in the hotel are excellent. The swimming pools are spotless and the ground around the pools are being cleaned all of the time. The staff were absolutely brilliant. They cannot do enough for you. Tipping is a way of life and I found that tipping little and often the best policy and you will be assured of a good table at dinner and drinks are repelnished without even asking.

We stayed in the sports section and was planning on upgrading to the main upon arrival but we had a great room overlooking the pool and you are never too far from the pool, restaurant, reception etc wereas you could be quite some way away from the facilities in the main part of the hotel. I also think that the outside dining area is better at the sports hotel than the main. It is more intimate with the tables spaced further apart. You can use all of the facilities at either hotel andd there is a courtesy buss running between every 10 minutes.
Breakfast and lunch can be taken in either hotel or at the Italian restaurant on site or at the pool bars. TRY THE SEABASS AT THE POOL BARS IT IS REALLY REALLY SCRUMMY.
Your evening meal has to be eaten at which ever hotel you are booked in at.
Trips are plentiful and if you would like to go on a boat trip to do some snorkeling or even try scuba diving then I recommend that you book with Hanny down at the Scuba diving hut on the beach. He will also come round the main pool to speak with you. This is an absolutel fab day out and is cheaper than booking with the reps.. They only take about 12 people and for £20 they take you out from 9.00am in the morning untill 5.00pm. Lunch is provided and consisted of Tuna caught that morning and cooked to perfection, pasta, rice, salad & bread adn you helped yourselves to hot and cold drinks all day. The lads looking after us takes you out to 3 different snorkelling sites and stay with you in the sea at all times. You can also have a taster session of scuba diving with a ratio of no more than 2 to 1.. I was lucky to have the instructor to myself and it was one the best experiences of my life. Scuba diving was a extras £20 and is well worth the money. You will not be disappointed with this trip and you can go and just spectate if you wish and just sunbathe on the front deck and top up your tan out at sea.

Just one other note to finish off is Sharm El Sheikh airport is not as bad as people have made out. There were plenty of seats, food there was very nice a little pricey but thats airports for you. Just take toilet roll with you when you depart as you will find a lady in the toilet charging you £1.00 for a little bit of loo roll. When arriving at the airport you will find people trying to get you to take a trolley then charging you a £1.00 just be firm and say NO NO No and walk on by.
Barter for anything you wish buy, Set you own price and don't be moved. Be prepared to walk away and try somewhere else. Most times they will accept waht you have offered.

Well I think thats it. I hope this has been useful and have a great time. Any other advice please get in touch.

Oh on a final note the mossies are not bad there at the mo though I did use insect repellent every night. You won't find many in the rooms as they are airconditioned and so it is too cold for them. I normally get eaten alive when abroad but only got bitten twice. Just make sure you have insect repellent from the minute you step off the plane especially if it is an evening landing.
Oh and one more thing DON'T change your money before you go. You will get a better rate there and most places take British sterling anyhow.
The visa form that you need to fill out when you land will be given to you as soon as you get to the airport. This form needs filling out but unless you are planning on travelling outside of Sharm El Sheikh you will NOT need to stand in the long queue and pay for the VISA stamps. Just take your completed form to passport control and tell them you are staying within Sharm El Sheikh. If you are palnning trips outside of Sharm then you will need to buy the visa stmps. Currently the price is £7.50 uk pounds.

  • Liked — Extra large rooms with very comfortable beds and spotless
  • Disliked — No tea & coffee facilities though room serivce is cheap so just order your hot drinks

We have just spent a week at this hotel, 2 forty somethings and 2 sixteen yr olds, cant really fault it. Absolutely fab hotel but 75% occupancy was russian, extremely rude russians!! The food was great, plenty of choice and no bad tummies. The restaurant staff could not do enough for you. Just a few grumbles... No beach to speak of, just a small area of shingle and you cant paddle. The restaurant seats many out on the terrace where the entertainment is on in the evening, so if you dont go down at 7 when the restaurant opens you have no chance of getting a seat for the evening entertainment. The nightclub opens at 11pm and is not part of the all inclusive option!! (Neither are alcoholic cocktails). Apart freom that, my teenagers were thrilled with it. Dont think the adults would go back.

My wife and I stayed for 11 nights and we were so pleased that we have booked again for 2007.

We booked thru First Choice holidays, but contacted the hotel directly re. a room upgrade. 1st Choice rooms are in the Sports side and it is nowhere near as nice. Despite what others have said the rooms are NOT all the same in the main complex.... you can upgrade to Sea View, Deluxe, Suite or Royal Suite.

We upgraded to deluxe with Sea View (room 4109) and were delighted with the size of the room which contained a 6' bed, table and chairs, Cable TV, aircon and more. The room had a separate dressing area and a large, clean and well equipped bathroom with a full bath, shower, loo, bidet and two basins.

Having travelled many times on long haul with 1st choice (and been very pleased), we were very disapointed with their short haul planes... not enough legroom; no individual movie screens. 5 hour plus flights on thier short haul planes are distinctly uncomfortable.

Transfer to the hotel was also slow, as many travellers had not obtained visas in advance (you only need them if going on trips outside the Sharm area). We had to wait for them. Visas can be obtained in advance from the Egyptian High Commission at the same price you pay in the airport, and no queueing is involved.

On arrival, we were procesed efficiently and our upgrade paid for at reception. Bags were quickly delivered to the room and the electrics, etc were demonstrated.

Food in the main buffet restaraunt is truly great. I used to be a chef and the choice is fabulous; the food piping hot and replenished very quickly. There are also live cooking stations for pasta and pizza. My wife is a veggie and had no problems with choice. Probably 20 plus choices of desserts, including fresh figs and other fruit.

The Italian restaraunt is worth a visit too - lunch and breakfast are free. Dinner is 40% of the normal charge if you are on all inclusive, but the food is authentic and good.

Weatherwise, it was mid 30s every day - enough to make me dive for the cover of the piano bar in the heat of the midday sun.

Whether you tip or not, service is courteous if sometimes a little slow.

Wi-fi connection costs about £5 per 24 hours and covers reception and some (not all) of the rooms. Internet access can also be purchased and most times the two PCs were not being used.

We went on the 1 day Cairo/Pyramids trip - early start but a must really. Other trips include Valley of the Kings (ditto re. early start), quad biking, snorkelling trips to Ras Mohammed and another good site (although snorkelling from the beach is great).

The beach is gritty and not really for non-swimmers. There is nowhere to paddle and you swim off the pontoon, going down steps into maybe 5 metres of water.

All in all a really excellent holiday in a surprisingly high standard hotel. I have travelled all over the world from Caribbean, Indian Ocean, Africa, USA and all through Europe and for a sunshine/beach holiday this hotel is a VERY hard act to match.

Go.

The Concorde is a very large, lively hotel with lots of facilities. The food was ok with plenty of choice (although we all suffered from bad stomachs) and the service was excellent. One big downside however - we stayed in two different rooms and each one was full of mosquitoes, despite the hotel spraying the rooms. Even though we covered ourselves in anti-mosquito repellent, we were all badly bitten - my 11 year old daughter ended up with over 30 bites.

We stayed at the Concorde hotel in April 15th-22nd. We were lucky enough to get a main hotel room which overlooked the aqua gym pool. The sports hotel looked fine, but even the staff said the rooms were nicer in the main hotel. Room itself was fine, the usual TV, fridge, good shower and all nice and clean. Comfy double queen beds were great with squidgy pillows too.

We stayed all inclusive (AI), but this hotel still wanted extras!! We had to pay extra for cocktails, cappucinos, the Italian resturant - and you had to buy bottled water to use away from the restaurants which we thought was a bit tight, however it was so cheap to buy it wasnt a problem - just the principle!! We didnt have a list of what was included in AI but the reception gave us one, no problem. Apart from that, the food was good. Lots of choice and mostly recognisable, no evidence of yesterdays leftovers being re-served. They have a Movenpick icecream 'van' down by the italian resturant, 2 scoops was 80EP, about 80p - very nice although we both got the pharoahs revenge after the 2 times we had it, coincidence? The beach bar served nice BBQ'd chicken etc and salad at lunch, the italian did pizza/pasta/salad buffet which we ate most days. The main resturant also did a buffet lunch but it was quite similar to the dinners, so could get a bit samey.

Unfortunately you are more likley to get ill in Egypt than not, but dont bother with imodium - it doesnt work on these bugs! Take Diarolyte/rehydration sachets which do help a lot.

The pools were all good, cold though but ok once you were in. The sea was no warmer although it was the best feature of the hotel by far - lovely coral beach and clear seas with a stable safe jetty with lifeguard. The snorkelling was amazing, better here than at the Ras Mohammed National Park. We even saw a sea turtle just off the beach along with the usual amazing fish and jellies. The current swimming towards the Hilton hotel was quite strong so be careful if you have kids or aren't a strong swimmer.

Sharm airport is like any other, busy, crowded and expensive! Its fine - just be aware that your gate will have your flight against it on the board below, and will start flashing when its time to queue up - there are no annoucements etc - until your name is called as last remining passengers etc!

So overall a lovely relaxing holiday, great staff, and not too many rude Russians! Hurrah!

Enjoy yourselves if you go here!

  • Liked — Great snorkelling, close to Naama Bay
  • Disliked — Nothing really, although having to pay extra for things was a little annoying having paid for all inclusive.

I am an avid reader of Trip Adviser and book accommodation based on these reviews . Having read all the reviews for the El Salam I think I may have had too high an expectation as I was slightly and I mean slightly disappointed with the beach (there isnt really one) and the service. Apart from that I cant fault the hotel, the food is very good for an all inclusive. Facilities are plentiful, there is something for everyone.

The beach is made up of manmade terraces and I think I expected some kind of long beach to walk on however now understand their coastal line I fully understand this is not possible due to the coral/fish etc. Snorkelling and the fish are fantastic. We spent the whole week on the terraces as there was always a nice breeze to help with the intense heat. Service was good but not excellent and we had to look for a waiter on several occasions and on some of these occasions there were none to be seen for a couple of hours. Noise from the nearby building site is constant but didnt spoil.

There is an italian restaurant which you could eat at but this is not included in the AI however they knock 40% off the bill at the end. We did not use this so cannot comment. The restaurant was next door to our block of rooms and was empty most evenings.

We upgraded to a sea view room which was a definite plus and recommended.

Service in the restaurant and bars was not excellent, again we had to summon waiters on several occasions and often had to search for them in several of the bars.

The main restaurant is very busy and the waiters and waitresses were very good here and service was better in these areas. The big problem here of course is the Russians who are rude, miserable, loud and on mass! The Eygptians do not like them and we saw several heated arguments between the Eygptians and Russians. However they did not bother us and we had several laughs at their attire - C & A must be making a packet in Russia.

Entertainment is watchable.

We took two trips, the Quad Biking and a Day at sea snorkelling and diving. Both trips booked on the beach terrace with Hanney and were excellent value at £20 each (dive additional £20). Recommended. Dont book the trip with the tour operators as they are more expensive.

When you check out please ensure you have your towel cards available to hand back in. If not you will be charged for the towels! We had left ours in our rooms which caused a long delay at check-out.

All in all a good relaxing holiday in the sun in April, I would recommend this hotel but some previous reviews do increase your expectations.
