“Someway to go to reach the standards associated with a 5 star renaissance hotel”
Reviewed March 26, 2014

I have just returned home from a week away at this hotel. First impressions of the hotel was that it was clean albeit in need of a re- fresh. The grounds are beautiful and well tended to with staggered steps leading to other pool areas, accommodation and the beach. The staff at reception were courteous and checking in was done with minimal fuss.
This hotel is advertised as a 5 star and as such with the good reputation with this chain of hotels, we were expecting a degree of luxury. We were sadly disappointed. On booking we were told that we had a free upgrade to a deluxe room. Our room however was a standard room with twin beds and was very compact. This was queried upon arrival and we were told that the twin rooms and the deluxe rooms are the same!! That aside, the room was clean, the beds comfortable and the linen fresh. Given that we spent little time in the room that wasn't really an issue. however, the all inclusive package was. I have traveled abroad on many occasions and previously stayed at other hotels in Sharm so i have previous experience of this option. I can truly say that this is the worst all inclusive package that i have had. Cocktails were not included, my friend asked for a lemon and lime to be told that this was not in the all inclusive package and would have to be paid for. There was no complimentary entrance for a meal at the speciality restaurant ( although they offered roughly what equated to £5 per person off a meal in one of these restaurants. Not a lot when an average meal for two cost around £40 and the all inclusive package had been paid for.
Ice cream was advertised as being free, however only certain types could be eaten freely. There was a variety of ice cream in the freezer however guests were only able to have the cheaper brands.
the main meals were located in the conference room as the restaurant was being refurbished. The food was generally fresh but lacking in variety. The best meal of the day tended to be at breakfast time. The midday snacks left a lot to be desired.
There was sometimes a lack of cutlery, and the food was "sameish" As the week went by we did however see subtle improvements.
the staff in the restaurant were very friendly and always willing to go that extra mile for the customers. Special thanks to Mohamed Adel and Bola Nicola who looked after us so well. There is no complaint about the service or the staff as they work extremely hard and nothing was too much trouble.
We did address our concerns to the management ( Max) whilst at the hotel. He took on board our concerns and that of other customers and it was clear that he was wanting to make improvements with the hotel and was striving to do so.
The majority of the evenings were spent in the ZinZina bar. The staff here were also exceptional and we were looked after very well. Special thanks to Khaled.
The entertainment was a little hit and miss but they tried hard.
In short this has the potential to be a lovely hotel and to have justification for it's 5 star rating. However changes need to be made.
That said, the sun shone, the location was lovely and quiet and if these problems could be ironed out, this would make for a fantastic holiday.

My friend and I were initially concerned about going to Egypt as the foreign office advice had changed just before we went. However we were reassured somewhat by the level of security at the hotel - with visiting vehicles being carefully checked and airport style security to enter the hotel. The main entrance and building is very impressive and we liked the way the rooms were set out - in two storey blocks generally set around one of the 4 pools, landscaped down from the main building down to the sea.
The room was a good size and the beds comfortable. I slept really well, and there was very little noise. Minus points for sockets being a challenge to get to in order to plug in various chargers, and there were no tea/coffee making facilites in the room - always a welcome addition.
The bathroom was a generous size and the shower was great - lots of hot water. Overall the room was very clean but a little bit tired - not quite what I'd expect for a 5 star. Plus points are the very friendly staff and the cleanliness of the whole hotel and rooms.
We used the landscaped sandy area by the sea rather than the pools. Sunbeds very comfortable and plenty available.
We did have a massage in the health club. The staff are aways offering different deals so its not necessary to pay the full price. The massage was nice but was a bit concerned as the therapists didn't ask any past medical history/allergies or if you had any back/shoulder/neck problems.
We paid for bed and breakfast as not a fan of all inclusive, and the breakfast was ok but glad we weren't having all meals there. However after some investigation of the local area there were very few restaurants in this area and we ended up getting a taxi into Naama bay most evenings. In fact wasn't overly impressed with any of the food we had in Egypt.
Overall I really enjoyed my stay here and would come back to Sharm el Sheikh because of the amazing snorkeling. However on reflection i would probably stay nearer to Naama bay next time as they have more restaurants to choose from in the evening.

Well we were a bit troubled by some of the reports that we read after we'd already booked our trip as we'd previously only read glowing reports about this resort but here's our post trip review.
Firts impression was good - staff very friendly and check in great - much better than we'd hoped and mohammed in reception was great checking with us five minutes after we'd been escioorted to our room to see if we were happy (which we were but good to see they care)
We'd arived late afternoon so after a quick tour to get our bearings we wehnt for dinner at the buffet restaurant and was pleased to see the quality of food had improved somewhat from what other guests had reported.
That said, the food quality and choice was only just above average and still has some way to go to meet our expectations - thankfully the resort had benefitted from a new catering & beverages manager just days before our arrival and the food was at least edible and hot with a reasonable choice. It certainly wasnt going to win them any culinary awards though just yet but maybe the new manager can squeeze some extra budget from the Marriott chain to make more of a mark.
Breakfasts are pretty good to be fair and lunch wasnt too unpleasant as long as you dont mind Russian guests pushing you aside to fill their plates to overflowing (then not to bother eating it) but I guess the hotel has little or no control over them to be fair....and my guess is wherever you go thats going to be the case.
The resort itself is very well laid out and id advise people not to worry unduly about the steps unless you are particularly averse to walking. If so just ask them for a room nearer the lobby and i feel sure they'd oblige.
Likewise id pay no attention to those reprots that suggest there are sunbed huggers - we certainly saw none of that and on one day where we left our towels on a bed for more thna acouple of hours the staff had moved them so other gusests could use the beds and gave us new towels and beds on our return so no real issues there either.
The staff down on the beach and around the pools couldnt do enough for us - in fact Ayman and Ahmed made us feel really welcome - even cleaning our sunglasses every day (and didnt seem to expect tips every day for the privelige im pleased to say)
The pool is in need of a bit of investment but was clean enough - just a few crusty old tiles around the edges that catch your eye as you're swimming. however i used it every day and was very enjoyable. The swim up bar is a nice touch too.
The all inclusive package tho needs improving on tho as some drinks are only available if ur prepared to pay for them and so is food at the pool bar - amazingly enough when they charge for food its better so they can produce good food if they want...that said, the ceasar salad I paid for at the pool bar was inedible as the lettuce was black in places and i wasnt prepared to risk it !
Acapulcos mexican food is a little better but still only 3 star at best and they reaaalllly need to do more to control flies and mosquitos...
overall i'd class this place as about 3.5 stars not 5 as its advertised .

Room Tip: decide whether u need a room close to the sea in which case you'll have quite a few steps to cli...

A great hotel with staff who have exemplary attitudes to service and guest satisfaction. As regulars at Acapulco joes all the staff there are fantastic and show a great loyalty to the hotel coupled with a desire to please the guests.
The problem here is the food on the ai package which has vastly deteriorated since last year and the many previous visits made. Many guests have complained and met with the manager and some improvements are visible, it would not take much more for the new manager to get the satisfaction levels back to the previous high standards. Vouchers are now issued to allow eating once per visit at the alternative restaurants and this would have been well received if the choice for all inclusive guests had not been reduced. As a once a visit treat surely the whole menu could be made available without breaking the bank especially as this replaces a previous daily allowance.

The cocktails mentioned which were missing have now reappeared on the menu, not the full choice but very adequate for purpose. On this point feedback has clearly been heard and actioned.

Sea view rooms are nice and worth paying a bit extra for. Tipping is both expected and appreciated, suggest you get some small change from the front desk for taxis etc before leaving the hotel. Taxis for naama bay should cost no more than 20le
Extra benefits available to marriot members including drinks in the loony bar which is a very nice venue for pre dinner drinks.

Overall a good hotel but no longer great however it could win a place back in the hearts of many guests with just a few minor changes to make returning guests feel valued. Sad to say that what we have heard from many people is that they will not return and will advise others to avoid it. We feel that we will revisit if reassured that improvements will continue, our chat with the manager was brief (he is busy and we have a holiday to enjoy)however he seemed prepared to listen and is obviously eminently capable despite the teething issues of the changes he has made. We are optimistic about the future here.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are lovely

Over all it was a very pleasant stay. Reception staff are welcoming and eager to help. The hotel is well organised with plenty of well maintained green areas. The room was excellent "7208", clean, capacious, air-conditioned, with a wide LG LCD. The most amazing part for me is the sea. No direct access from the beach (rocky beach and corals), through jetty you discover a wonderful world of crystal clear water, amazing colorful corals and plenty of fish, but be aware of the the current.
Worst part is the food, really disappointing with bad selection of food. The hotel has very good staff.

My review is short and sweet.5 Star Hotel,2 Star restaurants.very nice looking hotel, very smart hotel entrance.170 steps from reception to the beach.it was no problem for us but could be for less able people.complex nicely layed out all pool areas good and clean,we liked the beach areas but not a good beach for a bucket and spade I think most of it is man made.rooms were good.staff very good.nightly entertainment very repetitive.but the thing that let's this hotel down is the food.we were in the conference centre.when food was bought out their was very little effort to keep it warm.all food was within reach of tiny fingers so a lot of prodding and pocking at pudding, not good.very little selection for evening meal.final comment the staff are excellent.

Room Tip: We were suppose to have a sea view.we could just about see the sea over the top of other apartments.

We"ve just returned from a fortnights stay, which will have been our 7th time at this hotel. Firstly, on a positive note, the staff are excellent, nothing is too much trouble and they are extremely polite. I would like to give a special mention to ALL the pool guys who take very good care of you, Ahmed at the rotunda bar who gave us first class service as did Soltan at the aqua bar. The hotel is in a lovely spot, with beautiful gardens overlooking the private beach. The rooms are spacious, clean with clean bedding and towels daily. The only negative thing I can say is that the food was not up to its usual standard......breakfast was excellent as usual, but the lunchtime and evening meals were a little hit and miss! The main restaurant at the hotel is having a major revamp and re-opening in april, so meals are being served in the conference suites. Quite a few brits were complaining, sometimes unneccesarily, but the management are aware of the issues and assured us that they are working at improving meals. We had already booked to go back in september and are already looking forward to it. I am confident that the food will return to its usual high quality.

Room Tip: Ask for seaview room
