“First trip to Egypt”
Reviewed December 5, 2012

Booked this hotel as it had good reviews and we wanted a decent standard on our first trip to Egypt. The hotel is nicely positioned in a quiet area of Sharm on the main road from Naama Bay about a 10 minute taxi ride away from the hustle and bustle.

Check in was quick and easy and we were taken by golf buggy to our room. Room was very spacious and had everything expected of a 4 or 5* hotel, linen changed regularly and room cleaned meticulously by our man maid. He went out of his way on my birthday having seen cards to get the management to send down a cake and card!

Pool area was spotless and our towels were laid out ready for us every morning by Ayman who was great and always made sure we had a good spot, regular sun glasses cleaning was also a nice touch.

There are really only two things that lets this hotel down. Firstly, the all inclusive as others have mentioned, you pretty much need to keep the sheet they give you at check in on you at all times to know what you can have, at what time and where as not all bars at all times are included (and not all serve food AI at all times). It's also worrying to have to sign for every drink or snack you have as we felt worried that we would get charged for it at the end, a strange practice that surely would be bettered by having wrist bands like all other AI hotels.

The only other criticism is the service in the main buffet 'Coast' restaurant. Diabolical is the only word for it. Regularly found ourselves half way through our meal before we could get a drink or even summon someone to acknowledge we were even there. This seemed so strange as the service in all other areas of the hotel was fantastic. Tipping well did nothing to change this either. Food on the other hand was very good, lots of choice and good quality.

On the whole we had a great week and would probably return if the all inclusive was changed to an any time any place policy. Gorgeous hotel and grounds and some really lovely staff (Il Palio restaurant and waiters superb).

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room

The hotel is about 10 mins outside of Na'ama Bay, and therefore is fairely quiet. It has a great location, and most rooms seem to have a good view, although some do look over a service road! We have stayed for many years at this resort, and originally chose it based on the reviews about it being popular with Europeans - Italians and Scandinavians. However since the introduction of their All Inclusive option the place has been 'found' by Russians that are fairly noisy and take over the pool and restaurants. As long as you eat in Aqua or Acupulco Joes you are ok in avoiding them - they mainly eat in the main buffet restarant. The staff are exceptional - we always tip in US $ which may be part of the good service and they are always willing to help. The Chef at Aqua, along with the staff really try to make your holiday special, and if you are adventurous they love to prepare 'local' egyptian food for you to try. There is a dive centre at the hotel, and great snorkelling off a hotel jetty. they have also upped the security at the entrance to the hotel which leaves you feeling very safe.

Room Tip: Go for a suite - you get your own kitchen area with large fridge freezer you can stock up with soft...

Beautiful hotel, good service and well located. If you like to snorkel this place is great. There is a floating deck inside the hotel which allows you to swim and enjoy the reefs. I had only one problem with the hotel: I booked 2 days of diving with a company with no business relationship with the hotel... the person from the company which was supposed to pick me up at the hotel wasn't allowed to enter the hotel or call me to let me know I had to meet him outside the entrance. I had to call the company after waiting for 30 minutes... when the driver arrived it was already late so I couldn't go to Ras Mohamed for diving (because the boat had left). I only had 2 days to dive at Sharm el Sheikh, so missing what I really wanted to do on my first day was very frustrating.
This type of policy, which doesn't allow a non related company to communicate with the hotel's customers is absolutely unacceptable, as it impaired my vacation.

Overall a lovely hotel , its my fifth time there and was uprgraded to a suite with sea view. The room are comfortable and the location for snorkling straight off hotel jetty excellent.
Only problems this time was standard of service in the buffet breakfast.
They either need to be completley self service or organise the staff.
We always tip after good service but staff seemed very de motivated.
Previously had been shown to clean set tables and then served with either tea or coffee. Most mornings we had to find a table and badger staff for cutlery and drinks.
Whether its because they now have more Russian all inclusive guests or another reason I don't know , but at times breakfast became a hassle , which is a shame as the food is good.
It was difficult to work out whether any of the staff were team leaders and it was all quite haphzard.
The room staff and all staff and bars and beach etc were very at attentive and well desererved the tips.
The chap who walked out of the hotel and organised us a taxi to the airport for our return was wonderful and told us off for being willing to pay over 100 egyptian [ £10] for the trip.
Also don't forget to visit the memorial just outside the hotel for those lost in the 2004 bombings,

Room Tip: If you like to go swimming ask to go nearer beach , not sure how people cope if they are not good wa...

I have just returned from a 7 night stay at the Renaissance Golden View Beach Resort and have to say what a lovely hotel this was.

Having previous reservations about travelling to Eygpt, I have never felt so safe in a hotel complex. It is clear that the hotel take your safety seriously from having security bollards at the front of the hotel to baggage scanners before entering reception.

The staff are extremely friendly and ask questions about your stay to ensure that you have no problems. We had a couple of issues with little things including no hot water and an issue with the safe, but having phoned reception these issues were dealt with within less than 30 minutes. Special mentions have to be given to Sobhy in Rotunda bar and Ayman at the pool, these guys were truly wonderful and really take the time to get to know you.

The hotel is built into a cliff and has lots of steps but the grounds of the hotel are nicely kept and all areas are extremely clean.

The food was varied and we had no issues with any sickness (something which we had been told may occur from people who have been to different hotels in Eygpt).Just stand your ground in the buffet restaurants as some people don't believe in waiting their turn to get their food.

Sunrise is something definitely worth getting up early to see.

Overall I would recommend this hotel to anyone and would certainly not think twice about returning.

I have just returned from a 7 night stay at the Renaissance. Aside from a few niggles in the main restaurant (queues around the buffet) I would definitely recommend this hotel. I was a little nervous given the current security issues in Egypt however was more than reassured by the lengths the Renaissance go to in order to ensure your safety.

Despite also having reservations about hygiene standards in Egypt and the typical upset stomach you hear about, we were absolutely fine. No need to avoid the salad or ice in drinks unlike some European holidays I have been on.

Special mention to Ayman who works at the main pool and Sobhy in the Rotunda bar. Customer service comes naturally to these guys and they are a credit to the hotel.

We had a great one week stay in this hotel. The room and the service was great. The breakfast was really good but the restaurants for snack and dinner were really slow and the food was just adequate. So we used a lot the restaurant in El Fanar (the nearby beach). The food was not a bid thing. The place itself was relaxing and everything that we needed was arranged. Many places were easily reached by the taxis always waiting outside the hotel.

We wrote a travel blog about our holiday there - so if you like to read more about the hotel and surroundings and how to get aroud, just read our travel blog at:
