“Just a tiny bit disappointed!”
Reviewed March 24, 2013 via mobile

Just returned from the Sultan Gardens last night, we were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and travelled with my parents and cousin and her husband. We have had a lovely holiday however I was slightly disappointed as I had emailed the hotel a few weeks before travel to ask for refurbished suites, we had paid to upgrade to a suite as it was a special holiday (have since heard that quite a lot of people got upgraded for free), and had requested that we be next to each other. Neither requests were granted and consequently our suites were very tired looking.

On the up side the food was amazing and the staff were faultless. The gardens are beautifully well kept and the resort is spotlessly clean.

We had a lovely holiday however I have visited another resort in Sharm and it was every bit as nice, maybe I was expecting too much after reading all the positive reviews on here but have been left feeling just a tiny bit disappointed, shame really as you only get special occasions once.

On arrival at the hotel in February we were given a sea view room as we requested but it was too far for my mother to walk so we told reception next morning and they were so very helpful and moved us by lunchtime. My mother is disabled and all the staff were so nice and helpful and really could not do enough for us. The food was very good and even though there were some things that maybe you would not want there was always such a vast choice that no-one could ever say that there was nothing that they liked and the Italian restaurant is out of this world just amazing. Basel comes around and talks to everyone which is very nice as most owners are never seen. Our room 104 was really nice and right next to pool which was great and the room was kept spotless by Said he was so nice and polite. The pool areas are good but we spent our time at the heated pool as being so early in the season the other pools were a bit cold!! I was a bit worried about to going to Sharm with my mother as she is nearly 80 but would go again as it was just so nice. I would like to thank Taha who was the pool attendant and who was always so nice and made sure that we wre okay, Aziz who was our waiter in the restaurant and he was always so nice and polite, Samia who showed us to our table every day and she was so very friendly, Ehab who was also in restaurant and also very helpful and good fun, and Kamal who was a delight to talk to very friendly and helpful both when he was at the pool in the morning and the Italian restaurant in the evening, and Abduhl at the pool bar who always made sure we had drinks at Al Shahal bar. Thank you to everyone who made our holiday so good.

Room Tip: Make sure you eat in the Italian restaurant it it amazing

We were in the party of 8 mentioned before but first time here after 4 previous trips to Sharm.

We have had better hotels but paid a lot more for it, here the service was the best we have had anywhere in Sharm and nice touches with robes and kettle with coffee in room. I would say everything was of a very good standard and well worth trying out. Management were excellent when we had a problem with one of the on site shops. Of the two service restaurants the Indian was the better in all counts but need to book as soon as you get there.

The down side is there are a lot of steps in the hotel grounds and even more down to the beach so if that is an issue to you, you will need to look elsewhere.

Room Tip: To cut down the walking and steps try and get a room near to the top of the site

As this was our last visit to Egypt, I read the reviews before booking and hoped to have my title as "saved the best for last" for this review. Obviously people have different expectations and holiday experiences which make or break the vacation, can't say we had either? We went wanting a relaxing break and in the main that's what we had. I had e-mailed the hotel prior stating we had booked a Sea/garden view suite I requested a 1st floor one, which is what we got, but the hotel just didn't gel for us??
The suite(503) was old and tired, no plasma screen in this one, just an old 20",the patio chair covers were badly water stained from the previous guests and the view was mainly of the roof of the Indian restaurant!! Admittedly you could see the sea in the distance over the palm trees if you stood up and to the side of the patio!! As we had already unpacked the previous evening whilst dark, we were unwilling to re-pack and start demanding other rooms, as so many guests seem to do, and decided that it just wasn't worth the hassle. Maybe we got the inferior rooms, because others had dictated and played on their generous nature?? Bit annoying though when we heard throughout the holiday how people were upgraded to suites at no charge, which we had payed extra for!! The chair covers were replaced about a week later, though not through a request by us. If you are a couple and don't intend staying in the room much, then it really is not worth the extra money for a suite as you just don't use the space.

Best bits: The flexibility of the dining times in the restaurant.Hubby an early riser so he was there when it opened for breakfast, as it was open till 10.30 it meant I didn't have to drag myself out of bed and usually went about 10 which suited me fine!! Again as late evening diners we liked the fact that it was open until about 10pm. The food was very good and of varied choice, so hubby(meat&two veg man with gravy) was usually able to find something.
The Chinese acrobatic show and the Fakir were extremely good and the Egyptian dancing, again good, but not the best I have seen, and the whirling skirt man, certainly inferior to other hotel shows that I have seen in the past with regard to this dancing. The Daquiri cocktails are to die for!!

Not so good bits: The lobby bar is seriously understaffed in the evening. These young waiters are serving inside and out. They don't seem to like you going to the bar to get your drink and always say they will bring it out to you!! Now were not talking a couple of minutes here!! On average 10 to 15 mins every drink, every evening!! If they'd just let you get your own, but then there is no one at the bar as they are out taking orders and drinks!! No ambience whatsoever!!! No background music, no local musician to entertain low key,e.g. guitarist, pianist?? They have background music in the toilets though?? Every evening the same thing, look at the water fountain, wait for your drink, watch the persistant photographer pounce, wait for your drink!! Even I know the poses that he has them do, I watched it that often!!

Does it really need a sectioning off by rope for the loyalty club?? Are the rest of the patrons such riff raff that they need to be segregated?? Only two letters differentiate between exclusive and exclusion!!! I appreciate that you like to reward returning guests, perhaps a bowl of fruit&wine in their room with direct dial loyalty number??

Worst bits: The "miss" show. How degrading!! Now it may be because I'm in my mid 50's and a grandparent, but would I really like my granchildren to watch four young ladies, from different countries, competing by gyrating and dancing seductively in front of another male guest to score points?? NO!!!!

The insistence of the staff to start changing the seat covers in the snack pool bar during the busy lunch time, even changing the two adjoining seats on our table!!! Was that necessary, could that not be done before the opening in the morning?? The alterations kept coming for the rest of the week to the snack bar, usually during lunch time??Plants and tables being constantly dragged around??

The lady and her husband who arrived the day before we left, obviously a loyal customer and was greeted by many staff. Such was her own grandeous impression of her "mini celebrity status" that she actually called the pool attendant over and requested of him, supposedly quietly, though I was well aware of her request, that he save the sunbeds we were using next to her, for them the following day!!!! I was glad to hear her request was refused immediately, and told that they do not save sunbeds for anyone!!!! GLAD TO HEAR IT!!!

Best staff : Pool attendant pools 3-4 great friendly guy who dresses people up in towels and has play sword fights with them. Ahmed the very young waiter in the lobby bar of an evening, good sense of humour and adorable!! Mou the new animator, started when we were there and seems such a humble, polite person with a lovely demeanour. Also the gardener who was working on a section below my balcony for a few days, every morning he would look up and nod his head with a good morning. Such a quiet gesture, but very appreciated in the fact that he never forgot to look up and nod.

My tips: Don't cook so much of the evening meat menu in sauce, but perhaps have a couple of kettle drums alongside with complementing sauces to go with each meat, then if the meat isn't all eaten, it can be used cold next day for sandwiches etc. Perhaps do a pizza station at the pools 3-4 snack bar, freshly made pizzas with guests own toppings?? Have footprints painted alongside pools to stop guests moving their sunbeds too close to the edge, making it difficult to navigate especially for the waiters with their drinks order tray or young children when the pool depth may be dangerous for them. Insert chequer boards on top of the poolside occasional tables, then guests could play draughts or chess, hire pieces from the bar or bring their own, and huge connect four frames around the hotel in shaded areas for guests to play. Again a bit of unobtrusive background music in the snack bar for ambience.

Tips to future visitors : According to hubby the pillows are hard and too high, I can't comment as I always take my own. The beds are quite firm. There is a good selection of channels, fox movie channel, but most of the others are in english with subtitles. The ATM change machine in the foyer, you put your notes in but gives out large denomination LE notes. Kettle and satchets in the suites replenished daily. Mozzie deterrents were'nt great but the pharmacy gives injections apparently??? I took jungle pump spray which was useless sprayed on me but deadly if sprayed directly on the mozzies in the room!!!!

Dear summersunshineWales,

Thank you for choosing the Sultan Gardens Resort. Thank you also for taking the time to post your detailed and helpful review review. It is very much appreciated particularly as Sultan Gardens Resort prides itself on earning reviews in an organic fashion without requesting them or offering services in exchange for them.

It was a pleasure to host you and we are very happy to read that you enjoyed your stay with us. Though we regret that aspect of your stay with us did not match your expectations. We would like to take this opportunity to address some of the points raised in your review.

First, regarding your room. We are sorry that you were not fully satisfied with the room you were allocated. Our room renovation program is moving forward steadily but we have yet to complete renovations on all rooms. Having said that, we certainly would have been willing to show you alternative accommodation had you brought your dissatisfaction to our attention.

As for your annoyance at hearing that some guests had been provided complimentary upgrade to suites, we understand this but would like to clarify that this is not done haphazardly and is part of the benefits our loyalty club program for repeaters. Among other perks, loyalty club members are eligible for complimentary room upgrades pending availability. You, yourself, would be eligible for a complimentary room upgrade pending availability should you choose to stay with us again.

Regarding the service in the lobby bar at the evenings, we apologize that you felt this was less than ideal and we will follow up on the matter.

As for evening entertainment, we apologize that you found this lacking and agree that there is always room for improvement but we would like to point out that there is a local singer entertaining nightly at the Sultan Gardens Pool Bar or the Lord's Inn Bar and Lounge depending on the weather. Additional nightly entertainment include a weekly visit by a guitarist, a weekly sound and light show and a weekly karaoke night all taking place at the same location as the local singer performs and complimenting the nightly shows in the amphitheater.

As for the Loyalty Club area being sectioned off by velvet robe, we apologize if this gave you the wrong impression and we will consider alternatives but we would like to explain why this part of the lobby is arranged the way it is. At the Sultan Garden Resort we have traditionally thanked repeat visitors for their patronage in traditional ways common to most hotels (fruit baskets, extra room amenities and so on). However, as the number of repeaters and repeat visits has steadily grown (we have guests who have been back more than 20 times and guests who visit several times a year) we began to feel the need to offer something more. The Loyalty Club program was born out of this need. Among the many benefits and services offered to Loyalty Club guests is personalized express check in and dedicated Guest Relations service specifically for Loyalty Club members. To execute this properly requires an area in the lobby which needs to be cordoned off to prevent it being in use by other guests when it is needed for Loyalty Club services. We appreciate that this might not be ideal for all guests and hope you will understand our reasoning.

Thank you for your comments regarding the "Miss Show" in the amphitheater. We will take this comment on board and track for similar comments then take action as needed.

Thank you also for your well thought out and constructive suggestions. We will keep these under consideration as we work to improve our services and facility.

We understand that you are not planning any further visits to Egypt but we hope you will return and we remain at your service.

Best Regards

Having read the reviews on trip advisor before we went to the hotel our expectations were high.Having emailled the hotel in advance for a transfer and a room request ,we were met at the airport and a very swift check in with a welcoming cool drink gave a good first impression. After being shown to our suite (806) we went to dinner in the adults only restaurant and this was where we took all our meals. The choice of food was very good for all the meals...sometimes they could have been a bit hotter..as could the tea and coffee.Waleed our waiter was great always smiling .
Suite was just we wanted it was in a quiet location what we had asked for,by pool 3 ,even though we always used the quiet pool which was heated...apart from two days was it was decidely chilly. We spoke to Basel about it and he did go and see why it was cold.It warmed up again thankfully.Great staff by the pool always there to put the parasol up and move sun beds .Drinks always on offer from the bar staff. We didn't go to the beach as we prefer the pool ,but there are a lot of steps but the taf taf is always going around the resort
Staff in all areas were helpful and courteous.Room was kept clean and we asked for extra pillows which appeared instantly.
Animation was interesting and sometimes could be very loud especially in the ampitheatre.
We booked the Italian for two meals...as we do not do garlic we were a bit concerned but we went and saw the Senior Sous Chef...Mohamed Moustafa and he told us no problem if we told him our choice off the menu 24 hrs in advance he would make sure it was prepared without garlic. This we did and we had a wonderful meal on both occasions. Thanks again.
Our return transfer to the airport was easy as the transfer in.
So this hotel certainly was what we expected and some .Would recommend it and are looking forward to returning next March.
Tipping..Not expected but the service deserves it .Notes preferred to coins.(dollars ,euros or Egyptian pounds)

Our third visit to this Hotel and it did not disappoint us. The introduction of the Indian restaurant and the improved Italian Restaurant, were very much enjoyed.
We highly recommend the Fish market for lunch. At 10 euros a head, it is Great value. The food isexcellent, and the staff are brilliant
The main restaurants provide plenty of choice to suit everyones tastes, and the adults only restaurant upstairs was appreciated.
The waiters do a fantastic job, as do the room cleaners and gardenrs, also the staff at the two main pools.
A special mention for the reception staff and guest relations who were all very helpful.
We are really looking forward to our next visit and seeing old friends again.

We stayed at Sultan Gardens from 10-18 March 2013 and we had a fabulous time. It was our first trip to Egypt and we were a little apprehensive about tales of upset tummies etc before we went. However, neither of us had any problem in this regard. We ate and drank at the restaurants and bars every day including salads and ice in drinks and we were fine.
The quality and variety of food in the restaurants was excellent and we are glad to recommend it to all. In addition to the main restaurant, there are also an Italian, an Indian, a fish restaurant and an a la carte next to the beach. We ate in the Italian on 2 occasions and really enjoyed it. The main restaurant has different country themes each night including Mexican, Russian & Italian. In addition to the themed meals, there was always burgers and pasta on offer also.
We took advantage of one of the excursions on offer - a 2 hour speedboat trip involving stops for snorkelling and an encounter with a school of dolphins. Excellent value at £20 each.
Now onto the staff. We cannot speak highly enough of them - always friendly, helpful, smiling and willing to stop for a chat. Among our favourites were Lofty & Mahmoud in the restaurant, Mohammed & Ayman at the pool, Ahmed & Abo at the Al Shalal poolside bar and last but by no means least is Khaled Hassan at the Casa Mia Italian restaurant. All of them are a credit to the hotel and made our holiday that extra bit more enjoyable.
We had an unforgettable time at the Sultan Gardens on our first visit to Sharm and we would recommend it to you gladly. We will definitely be going back there in the future

Room Tip: We had room 264 which was about halfway between reception and the beach and had a sea view.
