We have been to this hotel six times and have a named palm tree to show this, but this was definitely our worst experience. Why did Thomsons FAIL TO ADVISE US of the extensive and intrusive building work (rather than lie and say...some building work). We booked in advance and paid for a select ground floor room (being partially sighted) with sea view and got what seemed to be a standard room on the top floor. We had to stand up on the small balcony to get the pleasure of any sea view. We had to navigate through rubble, building materials, trailing electrical wires and dust to get to and from the room and experienced building noise from 7am until 8pm every day regardless of where we were on site. The balcony was festooned with building waste such as paper, plastic and cardboard etc on a regular basis. Health and safety was definitley not respected. We agree with others about the poor conditions and we did complain ..we got a late check out but were locked out of the room by noon!!! We asked for the stairs to be cleaned of rubble and dust and this happened just once - then we had a daily struggle through the mess. Yes, floors were ripped up, rooms gutted and refurbished but we tolerated this for our two weeks. Guess the work will not be finished by May 1st which is the completion date.
The bathroom left much to be desired - toilet roll holder fell off, no shampoo or soap on the first day , hair dryer held together with tape and connection broke so it stopped working. However, some bathroom maintenance took place on two days when we were there but out of the room; the fruit expected with the select room only materialesd after 24 hours, DVD and TV had to be seen by engineers three times, lights had to be mended.... and so it goes on....Evening meal dress code was not adhered to - the standard has really slipped and guests turned up in very short shorts, vests exposing tattoos which contravened the code on the dining room door . This is a great shame for what is supposed to be a four star hotel - lets keep up the standards, please, Coral Sea.
However, all hotel staff were super, food good with plenty of variety and the sun shone every day. Just wish a couple of the Thomson staff could have been more supportive of guests rather than being complacent when we very politely complained - not good gueat relations on this occasion, but we should have gone to see Julie instead.
Our great selection of photgraphs to support these comments are currently being processed at the moment - we have not exaggerated the conditions in any way.
