We've just returned after staying here from Feb 15th - 25th 2013. Oh dear!
My comments are aimed at Thomson/First Choice - currently the sole UK operator - rather than the Hotel itself.
There is extensive refurbishment work going on as the complex is being changed to an Aqua resort. All the bedrooms are being stripped back and rebuilt. And unfortunately it's very intrusive. At 7.40am on the second morning we were woken by workmen drilling, hammering, banging, shouting etc.
When we complained to the Thomson Rep we were told that it's been a real issue for Thomson guests and communication from the UK has been both poor and slow. The Rep seemed disillusioned, downbeat and rather compromised and said the hotel management were informed of the early noise on a near daily basis, the builders were told off, started a little later for a day or two and then resumed at about 7.30 again.
We don't blame the hotel for this. It certainly needs a refurbishment. Though the pool/beach area is incredible, the interior public areas are very tired - approaching grim. Speaking to some regulars - they had visited 7 and 9 times - they agreed the place was looking very tired. By the way, the hotel staff were generally very helpful and the service they provided is excellent.
But Thomson - your communication from start to finish was dire! We paid for a premium room and weren't really able to enjoy between around 8.30am and 5pm due to the noise. On departure we even had to find a rep to let them know our coach hadn't shown up and was over an hour late. We were hurriedly shown into a taxi amidst an atmosphere of confusion as apparently the hotel was unable to accommodate all the new arrivals.
PS. I called Thomson yesterday to enquire about the 'building work'. The lady said she had nothing about building work 'on the system', would check with head office and call me back. 27 hours later I'm still waiting. Am I surprised...? No.
Thomson, you have had our money! I would love to discuss this further with you. But I doubt if I'll hear 'a dicky bird'. Poor show and totally unacceptable.
