“Great for a relaxing break in the sun.”
Reviewed December 8, 2012

Spent a week lazing about in November, and really enjoyed ourselves. Reading some of the reviews it's hard to know what people expect for their money, and whilst we are not over fussy we still want to be looked after properly. Food was always good, hygiene standards were faultless, toilets in public areas were constantly cleaned, pools were clean (1 heated) sandy beach and shallow sea for quite a way out. Can't believe that some people are complaining that the hotel is a bit run down, but also complaining that there is refurbishment work going on??. They are open 52 weeks a year so they've got to do it sometime. We really liked it, and have never before been to a place where so many guests come back time after time (You get a plaque on a tree in the garden after 5/6 visits and there are hundreds of them!!) If you are thinking of going for some winter sun which is not costing a fortune then this will suit you. Here's a few pointers to help you decide.

GOOD POINTS
All the hotel staff are extremely helpful, pleasant and polite, and there are loads and loads of them.

Rooms were kept spotlessly clean, with fabulous towel art every day.

Gardens are tidy and well kept, constantly being pruned and weeded when we were there.

Plenty of spare sunbeds and parasols round both the pools and on the beach

Food in the main restaurant was always good, with plenty of choice

Nice to see hand sanitiser gel at all restaurants - other peoples hygiene isn't always as good as your own!

There are some refurbishment works going on but not too intrusive or noisy

Breakfast served til 10 in main restaurant . Late breakfast available at beach restaurant.

Huge buffet lunch in main restaurant, snack menu (fish/pizza/chicken/burgers) at beach restaurant, and little man with burgers and crisps by the pool.

Afternoon tea with sandwiches and cakes served around 4

Dinner served from 6.30 til 10. Each night was themed - Italian Chinese French etc but it was a bit of a loose description. There was a big choice and we never had anything that was below par. Fabulous pastries and desserts.

Italian and Indian a la carte restaurants - once each per stay. Didn't try the Indian but had a good steak at the Italian

BAD POINTS
Spa staff were a complete pain, trying to sell massage or hair removal (how rude!). Came several times a day and would not take no for an answer. Pretend to be asleep ;-)

Entertainment in the evening was dreadful. Animation team did their best but it was excrutiating. They did a good job in the day with the pool and beach activities, but their comedy and dancing were dire. Kids disco was mainly songs in French or German?

Room layout was very confusing especially if your room was towards the beach

Beer OK but the spirits and wines were pretty poor and weak.

They fogged for mozzies in the gardens every evening, but this seemed to send them into the bar and balcony area. They are vicious so take some strong Deet for your legs and ankles.

Irish bar is horrible. Its dark and depressing, the aircon is so cold you can't sit there, and the drinks are in paper cups.

Main bar area by reception feels a bit like an airport lounge

We have been back from the Coral Sea Resort for just over a day now and already checking the website to go again!
Flew with Thomson from Bournemouth to Sharm El Sheikh - flight was superb and transfer from airport to CSR was easy and well managed. On arrival we were met by friendly faces and helpful reception staff. Our room, number 1108, was superb with a huge balcony overlooking the gardens and pool area down to the sea, where we spent many early evenings relaxing with a drink watching the sun go down! Although the room had obviously seen a very busy season, it was spotlessly clean and comfortable. The only gripe we have about the room is that there was no tea/coffee making facilities but this was rectified very quickly following a request to Mahmoud on reception, whereupon a kettle appeared followed by tea/coffee/sugar etc. Yes, we did have to pay £23 extra for the week but as we had only booked a standard room, was a small price to pay for our early morning cuppa! Our room was cleaned daily with fresh towels, arranged in beautiful 'towel art'. We never thought it would be possible to make two towels look like a pair of swans! The food in the Dine Around Restaurant we found to be superb with a wide variety to suit all tastes. We ate at breakfast, lunch and dinner (not always on the same day!) and were always in a dilemma as to what to choose, as it all looked so tempting! We also ate a couple of times at The Mermaid, where again the food was excellent and the staff brilliant! All the time we spent wandering the beautiful gardens we noticed that they were very well kept by the gardening staff without a sign of a weed or litter, even a discarded cigarette end! Have to say we went on this holiday purely to relax in the sun, which shone 5 out of the 7 days we were there (and even on the days that we did not see the sun, it was still warm enough to walk about in bikini and shorts), so cannot comment on any of the trips, as most of our time was spent relaxing on the sunloungers around the pool or cooling off in the pool at the pool bar! One of the most friendliest staff (although they were all great) was the man whose name we can't recall, who very kindly put towels on our chosen sunbeds every morning even though we did not tip him until our last day! The Animation Team deserve a special mention - 'Whoop Whoop'!! They worked relentlessly throughout the day and evening to ensure everyone was having fun but also respected those of us who would rather watch the entertainment than participate! Mario has organised his team to a very high standard! One member of the team shone out for us, we think her name is Tania (but apologies if it's not) - she always stopped to say 'Hi...how are you' and to make sure that we were happy with everything and enjoying our holiday whenever we bumped into her around the complex. It was good to see that they too were 'game for a laugh' when being pushed into the pool by happy holidaymakers! Was also a very nice touch that they were there when we departed on the coach for the airport on our last day to wave (and dance) us off!
Overall, we had a superb holiday at CSR and would recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of visiting Sharm El Sheikh for the first time, as we feel it deserves 5 stars for friendliness, cleanliness and entertainment value!
The only downside to our holiday was the pressure from the Spa staff, one in particular, who will try to bully you into having a massage.....avoid this man like the plague! Honestly, he was worse than the mosquitos, who were a bit of a problem and would advise anyone travelling here to stock up on repellent before travelling, shame it doesn't work on the Spa staff!
If the Animation Team are reading this - watch out Guys, we will be back .... sooner rather than later....Whoop Whoop!! And it will be sooner!! Steve and Wendy from Bournemouth

Room Tip: Our room 1108 was below the floor that they are renovating and to be honest, although reading other...

Stayed for one week from 29th Nov to 6th Dec, got back yesterday morning and we are missing the place already. The hotel was well presented and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. There is some work going on at the moment, but unless you intend to spend your entire holiday sleeping in your room during the day (in which case perhaps your own bedroom at home would have sufficed) - it's of no real consequence. The gardens, pools and hotel are very well maintained, though the painted pathways need attention. Slippery when wet.
The beach is on your doorstep and we spent every day snorkelling and sunbathing. Even tried our hand at scuba diving with the on-site Aquarius Diving Club. AMAZING!
Ideal time of year to go as there's no rush for sunloungers by the pool or on the beach. Easy to find seating in the restaurants and bars too.
There ARE mosquitos here, and even though the staff spray the grounds up to twice a day, the little buggers do still manage to take a chunk out of you when you're not looking - so take plenty of spray and antihistamine cream to be prepared.
The animation team were lovely people, and very hard working - but they didn't really add anything to the experience for us.
We didn't bother with the A La Carte restaurant as it was virtually empty at this time of year so was unappealing, and we completely forgot to try the Indian Restaurant (Mermaid Bar during the day). The food in the Dine Around Buffet was sufficient, but not inspiring. We didn't starve.
Our room was on the Shady Side, and though a tiny bit tired it was still very well turned out and comfortable. The bed was HUGE!
Don't bother to pay extra for a Select Room with coffee facilites. £28 is just not worth it IMO. Save your money and do something else with it.
We will be returning to the hotel as soon as humanly possible, we had such a lovely time and met some wonderful people.
If you're looking for problems or something to complain about, I imagine you can find them - but if you're looking for somewhere warm/hot, comfortable, friendly and relaxed to spend a week or two, worry free - this is the place to be.

Room Tip: Higher floors seem to be cooler, and if you want constant sunshine they you need to book the Sunny S...

Had a lovely holiday at the Coral Sea Resort. Stayed the last 2 weeks of November and the weather was great, alot hotter than expected. The hotel staff were friendly and very helpful. Plenty of food and drink for all to enjoy and the restaurant was very clean. Our room was very large and comfortable and the views from our balcony were stunning, far better than i had expected. Animation team were good and Dan was exceptional, what a lovely young man. This was our first trip to Egypt and it certainly won't be our last, we will be staying at the CSR again, so a big thankyou to everyone for making our holiday a great one.

Stayed early November, not been to Sharm before but eagerly awaiting the sun and amazing snorkelling. Hotel looked lovely on arrival, room was slightly disappointing in comparison and I would have to agree that they need a bit of TLC especially the bathrooms with mouldy grouting and rusty bits. Huge rooms with hardly any furniture led to it feeling a bit cavernous, biggest balcony I have ever seen!
Room attendant made amazing creations from towels everyday, they must go to towel origami school!
Bottled water is available to help yourself to at lunch and dinner in the main restaurant only. Outside this you can get water from the water dispensers at the pool or mermaid restaurant. They didn't mind you refilling your bottle from it to take to the beach or to your room.
First impressions of the restaurant was very good, food looked fresh, appetizing, beautifully presented and wine not bad at all especially the red. Hand sanitiser dispensers are situated by the entrances but i was quite appalled to notice only about half the guests use it. Also I saw people picking up food with their bare hands especially when choosing their bread. We ate what we liked but not too much, same with wine, we had no alcohol during the day and didn't over do the sun but we both still got very bad stomachs which started after 3 days and lasted for almost 2 weeks long after we got home, this was definitely not just down to the heat or different food. Overhearing conversations and talking to people I would say most people had a bad tummy for at least some of the time. But i'm not going to blame the hotel food cos I just can't be sure.
I think it was from the seawater personally. The beach was very disappointing and the first feet of sand going in to the sea is all slimy, a kind of grey/green sticky mud! This apparently is a recent development and down to pollution.
Although Coral Sea Resort has its own jetty, the actual reef is still about 600 metres away, much too far to swim. If you're an experienced snorkeller then unless you take a trip to Ras Mohammed Nat Pk or do a trip out to the reef u will be very disappointed. What remains of any coral is mostly dead, apart from a couple of big rocks out at the furthest black buoy. There are some lovely fish to be seen but not in great numbers. if you've never been snorkelling before it would I think you would still enjoy it. On our 3rd day the water was really choppy but we still went in and swallowed loadsa seawater, that night our bad stomachs BOTH started! Coincidence? I think not.
I went for a walk one morning along the promenade thing that connects all the hotels along the coast. The reef kind of runs diagonally and the jettys at Magic Life Hotel and Rixos next to it, go right to the reef. I wish i had known this before and spent the extra money staying at Magic Life. If you are going specifically for the snorkelling then you must stay at one of these places or be prepared to do snorkelling trips.
We mostly went to the beach everday, although the pool areas looked nice, there was constant blaring music which even got on your nerves on the beach! The animation team made the place feel like a Butlins camp, a bunch of loud, scruffy looking chainsmoking teenagers. I know some people enjoyed it especially the youngsters but if you're looking for a peaceful, relaxing, holiday then it will not appeal.
Be aware too that you will be constantly pestered by staff from the Spa and beauty parlour, even on the beach. If you definitely don't want any of their services you must practise saying 'No' before you go as they are very persuasive. My boyfriend booked some massages but they were pretty expensive although he enjoyed it. BUT please be aware that when you sign the paper to say you will turn up that even if you cannot go for ANY reason you will still be liable to pay half the cost, if you refuse it will still be added to your bill. I'm quite angry that at the last massage my boyfriend booked even tho they knew he was ill with a bad stomach, they pressured him into booking yet another one for our final day. He went at the agreed time but felt so ill he couldn't go thro with the massage and was still charged!!!!! even tho the staff member heard him in the toilet being ill!! You have been warned!
Overall think it is great value for money, great for family fun but not if you're looking for peace n quiet. Admittedly our bad stomachs spoiled the holiday but I really don't think as I said before that the hotel was to blame. We're convinced it was from the sea water that we swallowed while snorkelling on that choppy day. Sorry if this was too long and boring! Happy Holidays! x

Room Tip: Get a room overlooking the gardens, much quieter, also the rooms on the first floor have MASSIVE bal...

Well having been back from the coral sea for a week now I can say that I am missing the place.Had a great family holiday, the weather was absolutely amazing,so we're the people who worked in the hotel.the hotel is great ( even though it's looking a bit tired its all being refurbished)it didn't stop us enjoying ourselves. The pools are great the top pool which is heated and the bottom large pool which is freezing. The top pool is the lively pool where all the activities are done during the day. All the animation team are great (especially ashley H) what a great lad, we had a game of footy with him,and polo.Food is great you certainly will not starve, lots of variety in the buffet resturant at meal time's although the best was breakfast for us( what a great variety of cereal fruit and cooked)I can't really comment on the other resturants as we didn't eat in them, but we were told they were very good.Drinks ...as I don't drink alcohol and only drink coke, that was fine for me my drinks were all fresh straight from the bottle,my husband on the other side did enjoy his Gin & Tonic of a night.....The only down side to this holiday was the Irish Bar serving drinks in Paper Cups that's not really what you want to be drinking out of when in a pub( come on guys someone needs to sort this out...it's not a children's TEA PARTY)....The bar staff are amazing at there job,so bubbly and chatty so are the resturant staff. All in all a great holiday and will be returning..

Room Tip: Top floor rooms are definitely the rooms to have less mosquito's.
