The stars are beautiful without the light pollution of the city, but take care to check what your trip actually involves. There are many sites which offer star gazing with a telescope and a guide to explain the stars. Some also put on a show with whirling dervish, belly and/or fire dancer while others are more traditional Bedouin experiences. You can avoid camel riding and climbing if you aren't up to it, but heck with the guide before booking.

Negatives first - the camel ride was painful, first one I've been on, I had my 4yr old daughter on with me and the seat kept knocking against my lower back ! The food I refused to eat it, apart from a couple of spoonfuls of rice, they had some food that looked like a tiny rack of ribs- i thought they belonged to a desert rat due to the size but didnt ask, my husband ate them and wasn't ill though. so I would recommend eating a large tea before going and also wear long tight trousers so the many ants (as expected in foriegn place) dont crawl up the inside of your trouser leg, theyre hard to shake out once on the inside.
Positives- it was an amazing and breath taking experience being able to see the milky way with your own eyes, seeing that band going along the sky and wondering what mysteries it hides, this was something from a bucket list without realising it before hand. They had telescopes and you could see a couple of planets and they told you about life spans of stars etc. They even let my daughter look through rather than dismissing her as too young, which was I really appreciated. If you are interested in astromony even a little then this excursion will be amazing, breath taking

booked via BlueSky tours in Sharm. Fantastic tour guide very knowledgable about the area, its history and all about the Bedouin people. Camel rides, Water pips, dancing around the fire and lovely food and to top it off amazing Star gazing. Must do this trip if nothing else.
