We (husband and I) stayed in Tiran Island end of April/2011. The hotel was quiet becuase of the uprising events. It was my first time in Egypt and we were a bit aprehensive for some bad comments.
I love the area where Tiran Hotel is located, coral reef and variety of sea fauna to see, clean sea water and not too busy. The ROOM was very clean and well located, we were offered upgrade but we did not take it. It is important also to mention that the creativity of the staff who clean the rooms is amazing, you have to see it by yourself .
The service of 90% of staff is fantastic, I am a travel administrator and customer service is key for me. I was not desappointed, reception people were great as people in the restaurant and pool. The entertainment team were great and made the best to satisfy all the guest at that time (it seem the entertainment team has changed now, I do not know them).
FOOD was great, I do not go abroad to eat a tasteless brocoli or fish and chips! it was a good variety of food: different egyptian salads, soups, vegetables...pasta cooked in front of you with ingredients you choose, desserts and the best was the egyptian food and the coconut dessert. The wines at that time was better the white one and most of the time it was great, I do not drink fake juices so I can not comment on this. I recommend to buy water in the inside shops to prevent any stomach problems, avoid drink water fromt he tap. Also the ice cream is great so it is worth trying it.
We had MASSAGE an it was excellent. Remember to negociated to do not get ripped off.
We used the TENNIS COURTS. The sand had a lot of stones which make it difficult for the ball to bounce properly, I think tennis courts can be improved by even the area after playing football. Net was good and the staff were very helpful when setting up the area. We played many times and had good fun.
We went to Naama bay, we used the bus offered by hotel. We were drop in a shopping area. beware of the people in the shops, they try to get your attention to buy but if you do not buy they can be very rude, unpolite and laugh at you. Always remember to negociate prices (bad experience with the shopping salespeople are not hotel fault). Other than that you can walk and shop around lovely egyptian souvenirs, perfumes, oils, etc.
Overall I can say we had a great holiday. Now I am planning to go very soon in my own and I feel confident to go to Tiran Hotel my second time mostly becuase they were very polite and helpful, otherwise I will not dare to go again and more in my own. If you have any queries just ask the staff and they are very happy to help.
Tiran people, see you soon!
