“Great, I am going second time”
Reviewed November 18, 2011

We (husband and I) stayed in Tiran Island end of April/2011. The hotel was quiet becuase of the uprising events. It was my first time in Egypt and we were a bit aprehensive for some bad comments.

I love the area where Tiran Hotel is located, coral reef and variety of sea fauna to see, clean sea water and not too busy. The ROOM was very clean and well located, we were offered upgrade but we did not take it. It is important also to mention that the creativity of the staff who clean the rooms is amazing, you have to see it by yourself .

The service of 90% of staff is fantastic, I am a travel administrator and customer service is key for me. I was not desappointed, reception people were great as people in the restaurant and pool. The entertainment team were great and made the best to satisfy all the guest at that time (it seem the entertainment team has changed now, I do not know them).

FOOD was great, I do not go abroad to eat a tasteless brocoli or fish and chips! it was a good variety of food: different egyptian salads, soups, vegetables...pasta cooked in front of you with ingredients you choose, desserts and the best was the egyptian food and the coconut dessert. The wines at that time was better the white one and most of the time it was great, I do not drink fake juices so I can not comment on this. I recommend to buy water in the inside shops to prevent any stomach problems, avoid drink water fromt he tap. Also the ice cream is great so it is worth trying it.

We had MASSAGE an it was excellent. Remember to negociated to do not get ripped off.

We used the TENNIS COURTS. The sand had a lot of stones which make it difficult for the ball to bounce properly, I think tennis courts can be improved by even the area after playing football. Net was good and the staff were very helpful when setting up the area. We played many times and had good fun.

We went to Naama bay, we used the bus offered by hotel. We were drop in a shopping area. beware of the people in the shops, they try to get your attention to buy but if you do not buy they can be very rude, unpolite and laugh at you. Always remember to negociate prices (bad experience with the shopping salespeople are not hotel fault). Other than that you can walk and shop around lovely egyptian souvenirs, perfumes, oils, etc.

Overall I can say we had a great holiday. Now I am planning to go very soon in my own and I feel confident to go to Tiran Hotel my second time mostly becuase they were very polite and helpful, otherwise I will not dare to go again and more in my own. If you have any queries just ask the staff and they are very happy to help.

Tiran people, see you soon!

Room Tip: Negociate prices when buy, be polite with the staff as well.

First time to Egypt and can honestly say we will be back and especially to the tiran! Loved every minute of it!
Food was lovely everyday! Something new to serve, I'm not usually one for trying new things but glad I did!
Drinks were strong, just how we like them lol, cocktails very nice, my boyfriend particularly enjoyed "wife for me"
The staff were absolutely brilliant, everyone in great spirits. Would most like to mention omar from room service, fantastic customer service from him and really looked after us!!
Animation team were great too! Very funny and always getting you involved especially jet lee and Sam!
Rooms and hotel were wonderful everything clean and looked after! Couldn't of asked for a better hotel! Will be back next year but for 2 weeks haha!

Thankyou

I loved the beach they have. The reef there is amazing (compared to others we seen, even "national parks' this one is the best.). Beautiful view from the beach, Although it's not just in front of the hotel. (5 minutes of a walk + small bus).
Although service could be improved, I liked the hotel very much. Nice, clean, beautiful. One of the best holidays I had, But the reason is SEA, wonderful.

Room Tip: try to get a sea view room (better than a "swimming pool" rooms)

We travelled to Sharm with Easy Jet in October Half Term. The tour rep, Ayman, was excellent and went out of his way to help. We wanted to book up diving for the holiday so he took us to a dive centre at the Sheraton Hotel, some miles away and helped to negotiate a good deal for us.

I would like to thank Rachel, the Quality Manager, for her assistance and good natured approach throughout the week.

On arrival, we were very happy with our room - very spacious and clean. We were also very impressed with the pool area. It's very large and beautifully set out. It's clean and well maintained with a pool bar and plenty of beds for everyone.

Our first impression of the restaurant was disappointing - it is a very large room which gives the impression of a brightly lit canteen rather than a restaurant. However, we were able to sit outside and this is a beautiful, candlelit balconly area overlooking the pool.

The main issue for us was the drinks. There is a table which has been set up as a bar and you go up to request your drinks. We both ordered white wine but having taken one sip were convinced it was off. It did actually taste of vinegar so we thought we had been unlucky and ordered red instead. This had a slight fizz to it, was very pale in colour and again, undrinkable. We later discovered that the red wine being served in the restaurant was different to that in the lobby bar. The lobby bar red wine was significantly better so we took this up to the restaurant instead until the lobby bar informed us that they had changed their supplier and all wine now came from the restaurant. Apparently, the Russians drink such large quantities of it that they have changed suppliers to manage costs. As a result, we drank very little on the holiday - often the fruit juices but be aware that these are more like squash than a juice.

Regarding the food, we were disappointed initially but we spoke to the catering manager, Salah, and he went out of his way to accommodate us. I asked for decafeinated coffee and this was provided every day. There were delicious, soft, warm rolls with every meal and a wide range of salads every day. The best food was the Egyptian food - this was a delicious range of salads, houmous, dips, breads, kofte and so on. It would have been ideal if this could have been served every day.

We found it difficult to relax in the pool area because the entertainment team run aqua aerobics in the mornings and water volleyball in the afternoons. Although there is a quiet period after lunch, the music gets put on full volume from about 4pm. Also, on the first couple of days, people try to sell you massages and photographs so it can be difficult to get any sleep by the pool.

As we were diving every day, we didn't spend very much time in the hotel. We chose to buy lunch on the boat as the catering was excellent and more appealing than the hotel lunch box which we took on the first day. If anybody wants to go diving, we recommend Aquarius Diving at the Sheraton Hotel. All the staff are excellent and the trips were magical.

We were particularly disappointed with the Reception service in the hotel. They were unable or unwilling to help out with simple requests such as changing money - they would send us to the bar whose staff would then send us back to Reception. They also refused to make a phone call for us to check our return flight details, saying they don't have any outside lines. If you need to make a call, you have to make it from your room which is charged at about 30 pence. It's a small amount of money but it didn't feel like four star treatment.

Weighing everything up, we feel that Rachel went out of her way to help us - she even sent a bottle of wine to our room and responded to all our queries promptly and helpfully. The restaurant staff also did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable - they reserved us a table outside every day, served us coffee and made it clear that if we needed anything, we had only to ask. However, the bar really was unsatisfactory - Rachel spoke to the bar manager about the quality of the wine on two occasions while we were there but despite her best efforts, the white wine remained undrinkable and the red wine variable depending on who was supplying it on the day.

Having visited Egypt before and stayed in four star accommodation, I do not feel that Tiran Beach is a four star hotel. However, I believe Rachel is doing her best to improve things and that there are some very committed people who are working hard in the hotel to give guests the best service.

First of all i would like to say this hotel is absolutely beautiful the pool is amazing, resort is clean. We caught a taxi to the hotel as description stated that it was under 10 mins to get there. Now we know we got completely robbed as this cost us 250 egyptian pounds and you can literally see the airport from the hotel and cost us 100 egyptian pounds on the way back.We got greeted at the hotel, bags taken to the room which was over looking a biulding site, they offered 10pounds a day to upgrade the room with a pool room but we declined.
ROOM:
The room was beautiful, very clean and spacious. It got cleaned every day with some fantastic towel art, THANK YOU, Shame about the building site view
ALL INCLUSIVE:
The variety of all inclusive drinks is extremely poor, all we drank for two weeks was orange and pinapple juice. There was not alot of alcohol to choose from and it all tasted like disinfectant. The food was all the same and very poor the first week, rice, soggy chips, sauteed vegetables, sea bass and roasted chicken on the bone. The soup was gorgeous each day though. they had chefs cooking infront of you but they always cooked pasta, not really adventurous! the second week the food did get alot better as they added stir fry, beef burgers and pizza. We also discovered that mcdonalds and KFC delievered to the hotel from nabq bay so we had this for a change the last few nights. Although now a week after my holiday i am suffering from gastroenteritis, not sure if this was from the hotel or mcdonalds. The hotel provided all inclusive snacks from 16.00 - 17.00, here u could get a scoop of icecream and a few chips on a huge tray. Also they only offer one fruit.
RUSSIANS:
If you want to meet people on your holiday dont come to this hotel as it is mainly full of Russians and people from the Ukraine. Alot of these people were extremely rude, loved jumping the ques for food and have no manners.
ENTERTAINMENT:
The animation team were ok. 'Jet Lee' was absolutely halerious. The entertainment on the night time was fair - although most of the time it started really late instead of starting at 21.30 so everyone would be sitting on these very dusty rugs for hours, very uncomfortable. We felt like we could not joiun in the water polo as it got very competitive and aggressive between the russians
HASSLE:
By the end of the holiday me and my partner would pretend we were asleep by the poolside when the photographer/excursion/massage/salon people would come around and hassle you for treatments etc they would still hassle you when you are asleep or trying to relax, each one of them would hassle you at least twice a day! found it very difficult to relax.
STAFF:
we got treated like kings an queens on our first night, but from then we didnt get acknowledged. The staff on food service were unprofessional, having full blown arguements all the time infront of us. I broke my wristband on the 2nd week by accident, the reception people looked at me as if id killed someone, very rude. The towel men would always ask for tips and cigarettes, which was annoying
LOCATION:
there was no where to walk by the hotel, the loaction was full of securty points and you could only get so far, which we missed. We spent a hell of alot of money on taxi's who again literally begging us for tips and ripping us of. The hotel did do a cheap bus but you had to go there at a certain time and be back at a set time.
Looking back maybe we should have said that the hotel was not what we were expecting but we made the most of what we had.
Thank you

Many thanks for your review and some of the lovely things you have to say about your stay. I have already taken your review to Jet Lee who got a pat on t e back from all and was very happy to read your comments.

To clear a few points for future guests:

A return taxi should cost approx 100LE from the airport to the hotel with a local taxi. This may take a bit of haggling or you can pre-book transfers with your tour operator.

A pool or sea view room upgrade is $5 per person per night or where possible is given on a complimentary basis to repeat guests, however, some reviewers prefer a mountain or garden view room.

We are always trying to change and improve our food choice and many improvements have been made recently with very good feedback.

Most hotels in Sharm cater for many different nationalities. Different times of the year and special offers can influence the number of guests from any one country at a time but overall we have a good market mix of all nationalities.

Many thanks and we hope to improve on your current rating if you're ever back in Sharm.

Hello my names Dom, i recently stayed at the Tiran Island hotel for a week from the 15th Oct to 22nd Oct.

The hotel is a stone throw away from the airport so after dropping countless other people off at there hotel we finally arrived at the hotel. Now this being my first time in Sharm El Sheikh and Egypt i really didnt know what to expect.

As we arrived we entered the main entrance to hotel and you are instantly in the main part of the hotel. Reception is to your right (very easy to find) a small walk from the front entrance. We were quickly checked in and are bags collect from us and we were told if we would like something to eat that the kitchen was closing shortly but we could go and eat first before going to our rooms.

Our room was on the right side of the building room 1041 which had its own patio that was on to the front garden of the hotel. The room is like any other hotel room i have stayed in aboard but this was clean and very spacious. There is general wear and tear here and there but that should be expected of any hotel that is busy all year round.

We were told on arrival that we would have a meeting with our Travel Rep at 10:00 the next morning to talk about possible trips and excursions you could go on and also arrange your transfer details for the trip home. Our Travel Rep was called Ayman from Eastmar travel who is very friendly and is able to offer you a great deal of information about the area and trips which is helpful for new comers. Trips can be paid for in Euros, Pounds and Egyptian Pounds. (I recommend Quad Biking) during this meeting we realised we had left our travel information back in our room and i went back to get it. On my return trip to the meeting i manage to trip and split my toe open (I know on the first day and first 2 hours of the holiday) i managed to hobble to hotel reception with help from a very friendly cleaner, then on of the luggage carriers took me to a room to clean the cut and dress it for me (beyond the call of duty i might add) he then for the rest of the week made sure i was ok and asked how i was doing the staff at this hotel are brilliant and are a real credit. ( i hope the owners realise that)

Rachel is the general manager at the hotel and you will see her at least once a day if she can find you to ask if everything is ok and if we needed anything, Having someone english at the hotel was extremely reassuring to my self and my other half and rachel is another great asset to the hotel and we hope to see you again soon.

The animation team are great they will always ask if you would like to join the daily activites and you can always have a little fun with them even if you dont want to join in. They will spend time if you give it to them to find out more about you and tell you about them which is always nice. Sam i hope you do come and visit soon (defiently the hotel comedian). Hany that works at the lobby bar as well is brilliant very friendly and due having a mutal friend always made sure are stay was as comfortable as possible.

The Pool area is huge not once even with the hotel i think at 60/70 % full did we have problems with getting a sun bed. If you are determind to catch a tan speak to Rahtib and he will show you to the best beds and lay your towels out for you. If you do want to quietly sun bath i wold recommend being away from the speakers (although never to loud) and the centre of the pool where water polo takes place.

The Food is not as bad as people have made it out to be in previous reviews and in fact got better as the week went on. I am always willing to try new things and there was always something to fill my self up on there is normally fish and chicken daily with rice, potatoes, vegtables etc and although a little repetitive they do change as the days go on. There is a hot plate section that there is always something different daily at lunch and dinner and for the fussy eater pasta made freshly for you. Breakfast the omlette station is genious (though cooked slightly differently) but you can just have fried eggs if prefered. I think with a little more variation day to day this resturant would be great but i can understand that they have to cater for all cultures and it wont always be in your favour. But when you go all inclusive anywhere the food will be the same.

Other guests from certain other cultures can be extremely rude by not understanding the concept of standing in a line to wait for food to the general disregard for being polite. But the staff take it on the chin and continue to smile

All in All i had a great week away and would go back the same hotel next time i visit Sharm if there have us !

Make sure you visit Soho square but bring trousers (i didnt) taxi cost us 35 le each way and 50 le each way to naama bay.
