“Excellent First Trip to Sharm”
Reviewed March 29, 2014

Just back from a great week in the Royal Grand Sharm. the weather was stunning, the staff superb and the general atmosphere fantastic.
We had a lovely room with a sea view and a swimming pool on our doorstep. One of the things I enjoyed most were wicker chairs on the balcony which were great for the early morning sunshine and so much more comfortable than the plastic ones you normally get. who would credit it - sunbathing at 6.30 in the morning in the middle of March - fantastic.
I was a bit concerned after reading some of the reviews on Trip Advisor and I can see where some people would comment on the 'tiredness' of the rooms etc, there were some wee bits and pieces which weren't perfect, a shade that didn't fit the lamp, some grouting which had been badly patched, but they were very small things overall and I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone going over to Sharm.
The beach area is delightful with man made terraces filled with plenty of loungers and loads of room to spread out, the main pool area was amazing and very inviting and with everything on a hill, a good work out on a daily basis! Don't be alarmed, there is a lift from the beach area up to main reception if you fancy a lazy day!
Good bits - the staff were all so friendly and there were plenty of them
Bad bits - if I were to be picky as everything is buffet style the food could have been warmer sometimes, but I understand it is difficult ot keep food hot when some people walk away and leave lids open!
Great holiday, great hotel, more than happy to go back anytime

Reviewed March 28, 2014

We've just returned from a one week's holiday at this hotel. It was our first visit to Egypt - and to Sharm - I was concerned a little about safety - but, need not have worried! There were road blocks on the way to the resort, checking vehicles, before allowing them to move on. We left the hotel, before dark, to go to the shops opposite the hotel - there were several little shops/stalls with souvenirs etc. The shopkeepers all wanted us to go into their shops for a look, but took 'no' for an answer (so not too much hassle!) We also had some nice conversations and chats with some of them - about their local history/culture and also talking about football matches that were being played in England at the time! Very friendly people!

Hotel: On arrival, we were greeted and taken in a little buggy/jeep to our apartment. The block we were in (Room 569), had just been decorated (or in the process of being) as the staircase, which was lovely marble flooring - was splattered with paint .... think the decorator had forgotten the dust sheet! Obviously, this would have looked better, if cleaned off - but, we weren't that worried about it, we weren't sleeping in there! Our room was spacious, it did have 2 large sized single beds, rather than a double bed - but, again, that wasn't a problem to us - quite nice to have your own space sometimes, after many years married! We had a large bathroom, with a large shower. The room had a sea view, and balcony - what a magnificent view it was too - such a lovely sight to wake up to :)

We had our breakfast outside on the terrace every morning, overlooking the sea - we were always greeted by the waiter, Hakim, who knew what we wanted to drink each morning - and served us, without delay. There was a lady who made fresh fruit juices on the terrace too - some people had to pay for these, but with a 'yellow' band (majority of British had these), otherwise they were about £1.50 each. She was such a happy lady - quite often singing too!
To be honest, I did really struggle at breakfast time - I love fruit, there was plenty on offer, that was already cut up, but - it wasn't covered up, and there were 100's of flies - not nice at all. I avoided this, and we tended to play it safe with toast! (I think this problem could be easily sorted by the management, by having covers for the fruit)
Lunch: We spent our lunchtimes at the pool bar - there's a menu on the table, and it has prices on it - but there's no charge for all inclusive customers. We tried the steak sandwich & fries, cheese & tomatoes on toast & fries, and the homemade pizzas - which were yummy! The waiter was very friendly - with an interesting cockney accent!

It was so lovely to be able to walk along to the jetty, and see the beautiful fish in the clear water - without having to venture 'too' far (as I was a bit of a chicken!) If you met any members of staff on your walk, they always said hello and were very cheery.

We loved it by the pool. It was very spacious, with plenty of sunbeds. The waiters were SO friendly - from the waiter who did the 'water round' at 10am, to the man who 'sprayed' you with scented fresh water to cool you down, and the man who offered to clean your sunglasses! We got to know Amr (who liked to joke with us) and knew our regular drinks too, along with his side-kick Mohammed. Hosam was a super barman at the Pool Bar for the first couple of days of our holidays, but he was moved upstairs - which was such a shame, although we did still get to see him in the evening.

The Entertainment team, woke us up from our sunbathing at 10am with their club dance, and worked very hard during the day. They always said hello to everyone, but, if you didn't want to join in - you weren't hassled, which was nice.

There are a team that offer their services too, they come to talk to you at your sunbeds, asking if you want Beauty treatments, massages by the sea, boat trips and tattoos. If you don't want to have anyone talk to you, you can request a 'red flag' to display and they leave you alone. We didn't do this, but if you weren't interested, they were still friendly with you. We had some lovely chats with the staff, particularly the Tattoo man, Samy - he was very friendly, despite us not having tattoos - although I did have a small Henna one! It was nice to find out more about their culture, family etc - and the differences in our lives and family traditions.

Evening: we ate in the buffet restaurant on our first night, there was a lady making homemade bread - similar to naan bread, which was lovely! We ate in the A la carte restaurant on one occasion, which was nice. Downside, the wine is warm - us British, tend to like it chilled, so would be super to have it from the fridge.
The other evenings, we went to the Italian Restaurant, which you can attend, as often as you like. We sat outside each time - there is a bbq dish each night (but you're not told about it) - you can just help yourself to it, and there's a dessert outside too.

We really enjoyed ourselves, and are already hoping to return - I know there's comments about it not being 5 star, but it was SUPERB value for money - a few things could be improved, BUT - we still had super sunshine, with a super view, and super service - 2 very happy customers!

We were a party of 4 ladies and have travelled to Sharm before. We liked this hotel very much, the restaurant set up is great as Russians aren't allowed in the Italian restaurant and this gives you a break from them and the lack of table manners! Mahmoud in the main restaurant is great, always ensuring we had a nice table etc. All the staff here work very hard. Sharen in Guest Relations was really helpful and did her best for us with the few problems we had. The main problem with this hotel is the pool set up. At one time there were 30-40 Russian kids in the "Relaxing" pool, they spit, dive bomb, splash, push, shout and generally make it an unpleasant experience for anyone wanting to behave normally. This hotel needs an adult only or "quiet" pool to give people a choice. Everything else here was fine. It was very clean, our rooms were good, beds comfy, and staff overall very good. The free wifi is rubbish, in this day and age that definitely needs sorting.
The guy in the handbag/gift shop was lovely, Mido the hotel taxi driver was superb, never let us down once, and the pool attendant at the top pool was brilliant. We will consider this hotel for next year.

Booked on one booking form for 2 rooms as 2 couples travelling together & also requested rooms together through travel agent. On arrival 2 rooms were as far apart as you could get! They managed to get rooms closer together but were still in different blocks at back of hotel. Had been advised by travel agent that we would get superior sea view rooms but rooms were definitely not superior & could only see the sea over the top of the rest of the hotel. Rooms were very dated & never really felt clean. Bedding had a grey tinge to it & some stains so wasn't even sure if they were clean. Towels also had brown stains on too. Beds nice size but bottom sheet did not cover mattress so woke up sleeping on the mattress :-( problems with hot water in the room so had Luke warm water for 4 days & had to call the manager to the room but they felt it was warm enough but agreed to replace the thermostat. Lo & behold we had hot water but water pressure not great so showers not good & lots of black mould in shower area. Everything in the blocks looked like it needs a good clean. Food in evening not good - not enough choice & felt they were catering more for the Russian guests (which accounted for approx 85% of clientele!) Food in Italian restaurant slightly better & a la carte great. Barbecue in Bedouin tent on beach best food we had all week but is not free - £15 each but we'll worth it. Food at pool bar at lunch great too. Special mention to Abr & Mohammed from the pool bar/restaurant who couldn't do enough for us & Abr delivered drinks to us without us asking! Pool towels definitely need replacing too as they were almost threadbare! Disappointing not to be able to walk into the beautiful sea from the lovely beach due to the reef & I think hotel should make guests aware of this before they travel as not everyone is comfortable swimming in sea so deep from the jetty & pontoon. If you were brave enough the fish & corals are fantastic but you only get to see them if you are a confident swimmer. Felt intimidated by the Russian guests who were rude, ignorant & arrogant & made no effort to dress for dinner (mostly wore track suits!) We were stared at for making a bit of effort. They were also very rude to the staff who were very pleasant to British guests as we have manners! The German lady at guest relations is also very helpful & tried her best to make good some of our complaints. Don't bother using beauty salon - not sure staff qualified & equipment & facilities poor. Pedicure left me in pain for 2 days! In summary, a 3* hotel at best which is in desperate need of a face lift but well done to the staff who made our stay bearable. Unlikely to visit again unless dramatic improvements made :-(

Dear Sarah 3010,
Thank you for choosing the Royal Grand Sharm resort and for taking a part of your valuable time to post your review. We appreciate your feedback and we remain at your service always. We apologize for the situation of your accommodation but I would like to clarify that we didn’t receive any requests either from the your tour operator or the local agency concerning your wishes otherwise we could assign connected door rooms for you as we have 48 connected room within the hotel.
It is true that our rooms look bit tired but also they are very clean and all the equipments are working properly. I think that you noticed during your stay the refurbishment which is taken place now. This refurbishment includes the bath room grouting, new curtains, sofa beds; bed skirting, bed runner, lamp shades, floor carpet and TV LCD.
As we are a multinational supplier, the hotel is open for all nationalities and we don’t discriminate between anybody. Any violation of the hotel rules are faced and corrected.

The hotel is ideally located at the edge of the Om El Seid plateau. A floating jetty provides easy access to the two beautiful and very well known house reefs Paradise and Turtle Bay. It is a crime in Egypt to walk over or to destroy the corals
We have four guest relations of 4 nationalities to ensure that our guests receive the finest service available if you informed them about these problems, they would be quickly solved.
Thank you again for your feedback, we hope you will return soon and we remain at your service.
Yours truly,
Ashraf Fawzy

This hotel is definately not a 5 star compared to english standards but I would return. The womens toilets on the ground floor nearest to the pools and lifts have alot of traffic thru its doors and the poor cleaners cannot get in to clean them so definately more toilets required there. The free stuttle bus from the hotel to the old market and Naamaa bay is good but the drive is quite rude.
Egypt has so many beatufiful fruits to offer the world and it was a shame more was not available esp for breakfast to have with the yoghurts. Also I'm sure cinimmon is plentyful in Egypt, some cinimmon sugar would have been lovely with the pancakes and waffles. Also there are so many herbs and spices that could have been used on the pizzas.I'm not a fussy eater but I don't eat beef due to my religion so labeling the dishes is impt for me as is hot food ( most was just luke warm). The buffet food could have been more tasty!
However it is the amazing staff who make this hotel. Big thanks to Uri for being such a social butterfly( the girls from the animation team are not so friendly). Thanks to the juicers in the morning, the egg cook, Ahmed the pizza guy, the lovely natured Peter, the main bar man who worked like a machine in front of the long queues, Sherrif , one of the chiefs who was always v attentive and my buggie guy. My father has a bad knee and cannot walk far so there are golf buggies to use around the complex. I asked one of the front of house guys if he could just take my father and brother to the front security gates and my mum and I would walk and meet them at the front so we could explore the bazaars outside. I didn't get his name but he took my whole family out and beyond the gates and we had very little to walk and then picked us up again too. Such a lovely gesture and then he wouldn't take a tip either!
In all a good holiday! Thank U!

Room Tip: Avoid the 500 rooms if you want an early nite as the entertainment is not always very good so you go...

The hotel is nice and clean with plenty on space within the hotel however it is very dated. The décor in the hotel looked like it was from the 80s however was told it will be going under refurbishment soon. Rooms were old fashioned but clean.
The food wasn't very nice with very little selection for people. I am not a fussy eater at all but I did struggle with finding dinner in the evenings. The best food was at the pool bar where there were fresh pizza, sandwiches, pasta, etc served at lunch time so would recommend going there in the afternoon and filling yourself up...just mind the RUSSIANS as usual...they seem to take over all the hotels in Egypt, you just can avoid them unfortunately!
All of the pools were a nice size but as usual..struggled to find sunbeds after 8am so you have to be up earlish to get a nice spot. However the entertainment in the evening is pretty rubbish so you end up going to bed early most nights anyway!
The guys in the animation team were really nice and friendly..especially Yuri and the Nigerian guy(sorry forgot his name). Such friendly guys and always try to make you smile. The girls however were very ignorant and never spoke to anyone and did not try to involve you in any activities and I actually wanted to join in but they never invited us so we never bothered.
The sales guys by the pool are a bit annoying with offering facials and manicures though and I ended up getting my nails done but they were awful! The nail varnishes in the salon seem years old, clumping all the time and the beautician kept adding water which just made it thin and runny then the next day were chipping already! The spa however was lovely! We had a package with a Turkish bath and massage which was so nice and relaxing the best guy to go to is Belal as he will tell you all about the spa and give you a good deal, hes such a lovely guy so best go to him. Samy the tattoo guy is also very lovely and friendly could easily chat with him all day..always has a smile on his face!
The staff who work in the hotel are all very nice and cant do enough for you especially the guy who brings you drinks by the pool...drinks just appeared without asking and was also fun to have some banter with.
The only downside to the waiters is some ask you to going outside of the hotel with them if women are on holiday without a man. Just because English women are friendly and smile does not mean they want to go to naama bay or to rooms with the men. I ended up avoiding the restaurant and not wanting to go for dinner as I wanted to avoid some waiters who do not understand the word NO! You could say no over and over and they still ask you again 5 minutes later. I go on holiday to relax with my family not to be taken out by hotel staff!
99.9% of the staff in the hotel however are very nice and hard working and do just want to be friends with you which is nice.
I would not go back to this hotel again but was ok for a nice relaxing holiday that is cheap and cheerful, however was expecting luxury 5 star but we didn't get that!

Room Tip: Choose a room with a sea view as we heard these were nicer
