This is not what the English would call a 5* hotel! However, it was clean but really needs updating.
The location is great if you like a quiet holiday, and it's right on the beach.
The rooms are spacious, clean, good shower and very cleaned well everyday by the friendly housekeeping guy.
There are a lot of sales reps that want you to book massages, boat trips etc, but they are all friendly enough and when you get to know them they are friendly people.
The food was OK, not great. There were a lot of Russians staying in the hotel over Christmas, they are really greedy and pile their plates with food including the strawberries!
Top tip, don't change your English money, the hotel, shops and sales people all accept the English pound. So if the exchange rate is low, just take your English money.
We had a massage in the spa, really nice so we booked another one but felt we didn't get our full 30 mins worth.
What we saw of Sharm , we thought was nice. We went over Christmas and the weather was lovely. Around 25-28 degrees. But the sun is low and around 4pm the sun would go down behind the hotel and the temperature drops. The evenings were chilly, so a thick cardigan is needed!! Or a thin jacket.
Entertainment was rubbish, but it didn't bother us.
Take bite cream, we all got bitten quite a few times.
Overall, we had a good time, and the hotel is good for the price.

This hotel took me by surprise when I walked in through reception! you get the feeling of a 5 star hotel with beautiful decor and open glass windows straight to stunning views of the beautiful Red Sea! The room we had was fantastic - views of the garden, pool and sea! Felt myself chilling out immediately! Exceptionally hard working staff - helpful, friendly and always with a smile on their faces! The manager was truly a gentleman and helped us with everything. The restaurants were great- remember you're in Egypt and the food is different but delicious! I would recommend this fantastic hotel and want to say a big thank you to all staff and the fantastic animation team for a wonderful Christmas.

We stayed at the Royal Grand Sharm in Sharm El Sheikh between December 19-29th 2013. The Hotel is large, and occupies a good location on the coast in well maintained landscaped gardens. The staff are polite, very friendly and accommodating but don’t expect to be able to compare this hotel to usual 5 star hotels in other locations, its not bling but comfortable and well worn; but The Royal Grand Sharm represent great value.

We stayed on an all inclusive basis with all food and drink included. We stayed on the second floor in a deluxe sea room view which had a large balcony overlooking the main swimming pool and sea beyond. The weather was beautiful during the day with temperatures around 25-27 degrees and to get the most out of the trip be prepared to get up early and find a suitable spot around the pool or on the beach and start sunbathing at 8am. In December the sun dips around 4pm so get your tanning hours in early (it does get colder in the evenings so take a jumper).

If your thinking of staying in Sharm El Sheikh the main choices to make when selecting if you want to stay at the Royal Grand Sharm are; do you want to stay in a quieter location away from the night life and shopping of Soho Square but be away from the airport and closer to the diving? We visited Narma bay to check out some of the other more central hotels that occupy that strip and were delighted with our choice of hotel.

Summarised below are some of the activities we enjoyed during our stay;

- Exploring the Desert – organised by the Hotel this half day trip involved a mini bus drive to a desert compound and then getting suitably attired in Arab headscarf before driving either two seater buggies or quad bikes into the desert and enjoying see some great scenery and having some fast bumpy driving along the way. Be aware that the afternoon is very very dusty, wear old cloths as the dust get everywhere and you could even take ski goggles to cut out the dust that get past your sun glasses and enjoy the drive even more.

- Scuba diving – a diving school is located in the hotel grounds and good snorkelling and instruction available from a private jetty that takes you over the reef. This was a big factor in selecting this hotel for our trip. Day trips further out along the coast and diving wrecks are available with boats staffed by professional, well organised instructors and crew.

- Visiting the old market – basically an attempt to reproduce an authentic Arab market but really its a warren of stalls/shops hawking all the same stuff. Its fun to barter but don’t bother going if you can’t cope with endless cheap sales banter and reproduction goods.

The Royal Grand Sharm Hotel has a german speaking Guest services. That was very helpfull for us to get information about Egypt and hotel services. We used the SPA every day. The haman bath and the medical massages were excellent.
The culture of the russian guests (80% of all guest) is not the same like me. I couldn't not ignore it, it was my feeling especially in the restaurtants of the hotel.

FOOD WHAT A DISGRACE - You cannot believe your eyes. If the thought hot food was to be served hot then it should be hot - not cold or luke warm. It was a joke. We lived off more or less soup for two weeks. Even the a la carte restaurant - you cannot belive it, we start in the bar watching staff prepare the meals, food was put on to a plate 10 minutes before it was served and nothing to keep it warm.

The rooms were in need of a good make over, bed was creaking all the time, lamps with tears in the shades, and the bathroom well what more could I say, it is antiquated. The grounds were kept managed but the paths had holes in them, out side a door was a raised manholes cover which we frequently tripped over - lucky not to break anything. Tiles broken on stairs and many many more things

On the plus side I feel sorry for the staff having to put up with ancient equipment and be expected to keep smiling. The staff were very good. But it is down to management to make sure that things are up to standard.

THIS IS NOT A FIVE STAR HOTEL THIS IS A THREE STAR AT THE MOST - IF YOU LIKE YOUR FOOD DON'T GO HERE - BIG MISTAKE

Room Tip: Don't go !!!!!! if you do chose rooms from 200 and not 500 as they are near the stage and it is very loud
