Stayed here for five nights. The rooms are not small or large as they are about 200 square feet. All rooms have a balcony or terrace that overlooks the pool. The furniture is in good condition and the television is LCD with sat channels. The location is a bit isolated as nothing is in walking distance. However, cabs and the local minvans are easily obtained in front of the place. The minivans go to Nabqa and to Naama for 5 pounds. Food was the best I had in Egypt (on my budget). Two nights there was leg of veal and one night there was salmon. There was always a chicken, a beef, and a fish entree; Never any liver. For those that complain about the food I don't understand this (what do you eat at home?). Of course, I'm kind of a simpleton. Years ago I used to joke with an ex-boss of mine that we might be mistaken for J Edgar Hoover and his deputy Clyde Tolson since we ate at the same restaurant in Coral Gables for lunch every day and always ordered the same thing (like J Edgar, my boss would get cottage cheese and some salad; me the tuna melt).
As far as the hotel staff:
I don't know who cleaned my room since it happened when I wasn't there.
I probably met the manager but i don't remember. I meet many, many hotel employees (probably several hundred over the last two years) and could not possibly remember all their names.
I largely didn't interact with the wait staff. As it's a buffet I am capable of carrying my own food. The plates were removed when I wasn't at the table.
One bartender mentioned his name, Walled. He poured beer when I asked for one. I have nothing else to comment other than the guy did his job as expected.
A woman from Russia who was part of the entertainment staff talked to me briefly. She seemed interested in my travel to Turkey (not sure why) and inquired if I would like to go to Russia. Yes I would like to go to Russia but haven't really been able to afford it. I acknowledged the woman's ancestors incredible sacrifice in fighting against the Facist menace during WWII.
As far as odd people:
One guy asked me how much money I had (not on me but my net worth). He also said that some guy from Saudi Arabia talking to his girlfriend/wife/whatever was good looking and that he could f his bum. His lady friend was not pleased with the comment. Not to mention that such comments are kind of taboo in that part of the world.
A couple of older ladies invited me to a conversation with them in the bar. They wanted to hear stories about New York. I'm not from New York nor did I ever live there. As I couldn't help them and it was almost midnight I declined their offer and went to bed.
Some woman looks at a picture from Walled's wallet and comments to Walled that he is dark complected. Walled is not dark complected by my estimation. Seemed like an odd thing to say to somebody.
