“Stop looking at other places and just book the Royal Savoy!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 8, 2013 via mobile

We arrived half an hour early to be met with a warm welcome from Gamul as we literally got into the terminal building. He then led us to the front of a long immigration queue after which we were the first people at baggage reclaim and arrived at the Royal Savoy after a comfortable 5-10 minute drive- within 30minutes of touchdown!

The good vibe was confirmed with a warm welcome from Samuel at check in overlooking the pool area. We had a ground floor room with a verandah directly accessing the pool and gardens which was a lovely surprise. The room exceeded expectations with previous reviews suggesting a tired appearance, but we found the oppositel. The room was fresh, good sized and immaculately clean with four poster bed, fruit bowl and daily treats.

The main thing that impressed us the most and made the stay memorable was the very high level of professional and attentive service from all members of the Royal Savoy  staff. The Royal Savoy lounge is open all day until 10pm. Breakfast on the terrace is lovely with eggs made to order by the ever cheerful Farag. You can go over to the main savoy if you fancy a larger hot selection which we tried once. There is also a continental breakfast available for late risers between 11-12 which is a very nice touch.

Soft drinks, wine, beer included until sunset at the lounge, royal savoy pool area and also the private beach area and then cocktails and bubbly at the lounge until 8pm- it really is amazing value and you are never left with an empty glass from the staff (special mention to Mohamed at the pool and Bishoy in the lounge)...Not to mention the all day selection of canapés and pastries available in the lounge!

There are 2 private pool areas (heated pools) for royal savoy guests with their own bar, sauna, jacuzzi and steam room. There is a lovely private beach area with its own bar too, and you can walk out on a jetty and snorkel/ swim over the impressive coral reef with tons of fish to see! The gym is really well equipped with modern machines and is located within the spa.

Lots of restaurants in the hotel- seafood island is a must but is only open 2 evenings per week currently. Soho square is a 2 minute walk away and has lots of options too- all of which can be signed to your room with a 25% discount on food. There is a duty free in soho square but you can only buy stuff within 2 days of your arrival in Sharm- they check the passport stamp!

We were on bed and breakfast and can see no benefit of the S class unless you want to continually eat and binge drink for the entire holiday.  Certainly with the Royal Savoy Lounge, S class is not worth the large extra cost.

We would definitely recommend the Royal Savoy for a short break in the sun with impeccable personal  service. Well done to Samuel and his team - keep up the good work!

Dear guests,

Many thanks for your kind feedback and taking the time to place such a nice review.

The Royal Savoy Team is very proud of your view on our professional hospitality and delighted that you appreciated it.

We are also very pleased to know that you enjoyed your experience in our hotel, and were able to relax and unwind. The private transfer service from airport to hotel is very popular with our guests and we are glad that you enjoyed SOHO and its facilities. The duty free shops, many souvenir shops, cafés bars and restaurants are all in a great place on your doorstep - and hassle-free.
Clearly, the S-Class or ultra all Inclusive meal plan did not suit you. However, it can be great for those who do not want to pay for drinks and restaurants on the spot or to sign for them and pay at the end of the holiday and would like to know that everything is all included. Lunch and evening meals are also included in the S-Class with all the restaurants in Soho Square and the Savoy.
Again we thank you for your review and we would love to see you back here at the Royal Savoy in the near future.

Warmest regards,
Royal Savoy Manager

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 8, 2013

Royal Savoy ranks amongst the best hotels that I have stayed at during my vacations.

Plus points:
- Amazing service. Starting from the airport where a Royal Savoy staff member waited to pick us to the point when the member of staff dropped us back at the final security gate at the airport on our return, the service was always courteous and accompanied by a smile. Some important details here: The airport pick-up started the moment we entered the first building in the airport compound after disembarkation. Our pick up guy "B.Gamaal" was waiting for us above the escalators and immediately took our passports, got an entry stamp on it without us or him having to wait in a queue of other passengers (top perk of booking with this hotel), collected our bags from the baggage belt and took us to the car and on our way to the hotel - all within minutes. On return, we were met by Gamaal at the departure terminal where again he took control of our bags, helped us get through the bag security scans, check-in process, filled out our passport control forms, got the passports stamped without going through a queue and walked us to the final security point! Fantastic service and organisation for vacationers to just arrive and depart hasslefree...its a wicked touch of service

- Three heated pools reserved for Royal Savoy group. Again some detail here: The hotel compound is shared by all 3 hotels under the Savoy banner in Sharm - Sierra, Savoy and Royal Savoy with 3 main pools shared by guests from all these in addition to the 3 that are reserved for the Royal Savoy guests. The reserved pools offer different depths for those who wish to literally sit with their sunbeds partly submerged in water to those who would like to have a swim. There is a sauna and steam room by one of these pools. All of them are served by a bar and access to the Private Lounge facilities. The cocktails made with local alcohol + local beer/wine is complimentary through the day until the pools close at sunset. Fresh juices, tea/coffe, canapes and cakes etc are also complimentary from the Private Lounge for Royal Savoy guests by these poolsides. If you choose to use the main pools, you get extra and better towels to use than the Savoy and Sierra guests but the drinks form the bar by those pools are chargeable.

- Private Lounge was amazing at it was always stocked with complimentary canapes, soft drinks, local beer/wine, cakes and pastries and attended to by members of staff through the day. Between 6-8pm, during the "happy hour", imported alcoholic drinks are complimentary as well and served with a real desire to please the guests by the service staff.

- Dedicated concierge desk always ready and available to help during working hours and otherwise we could call an extension that is served by the main Savoy reception in the same compound. We were served by Michael, Samuel, Anna and Lauren - always ready to help and organise our days and desires.

- Private beach for the Savoy group of hotels but also a dedicated and reserved section for Royal Savoy within this area, again served by a beachside bar area (+canapes etc as usual). Mahmood who was usually the staff member serving us, was forever eager to make our time by the beachside pleasant and get us all the help/food/drinks we desired.

- Variety of water sports available with access to a help desk to organise your water sports activities or just rent you snorkels (35 LE for a whole day) readily by the beach side. Plenty of lifeguards available to make us feel assured of beachside safety and even help with snorkelling and swimming. Watch out though - since its a commission based set up and a 3rd party company, different ppl on the help desk can quote you different prices and there is room to haggle here. "Tamer" who helped us was good and gave us decent deals to us though you may still be able to haggle more with him/them.

- Nearly 10 good quality restaurants within the compound but it gets even better: If you are on an ALL inclusive deal with Royal Savoy, you can eat or drink in any restaurant within Soho Square (choice of another dozen restaurants and bars) as part of the all inclusive deal! If you are on a bed n breakfast deal like we were, still all those Soho Square restaurants will offer 25% discount on all food and drinks bills for Royal Savoy guests! Makes a big difference to the bills!
- The spa is functional and of good quality - no different to a good european spa facility, with courteous and professional staff.
- Location of the hotel i.e., Soho Square, is a very different experience to real Egypt. Its great for a hassle free stroll and eating out, relaxing, entertaining, shopping visit.

Some things to consider/watch out for:

- Breakfast in the Private Lounge is functional - the staff member making eggs was great and always wanted to cook a surprise dish for us! The main hotel restaurants probably offered a larger variety of hot food though as the private lounge area was restricted to about 4-5 hot food items and thats it.

- The negative side of being in Soho Square is that its no real Egypt / Sharm that you experience. If you want the hustle bustle of being in the real Egypt and SHarm then you have to take cab rides to Naama Bay or Old Market areas. Cabs are available in Soho Square but haggling is much necessary - you can almost always haggle hard and get a one way cab for 30 LE to Naama Bay and 40 LE to Old Market. They are still a higher fare than locals would pay but its probably the best you would get as a tourist because cab drivers know they can get that fare from other tourists. No harm in getting a cab guy to come back and pick you up (take his mobile number, use your phone with your number withheld so they cant hassle you and call him yourself instead of giving them your number) for the same price i.e., say 30 LE each way to Naam Bay and back. The cab drivers prefer this kind of a deal and the only thing you really need to work out is what time you will want them to come and pick you up. Some warnings here: have the right money/change ready. We agreed on 40 LE with a driver named Khalid (car number 9147) to Naama Bay and when we got there, firstly he tried to drop us off 500mts before Naama Bay starts to avoid going into traffic near Naama Bay - say NO to this and tell him to drop you at Naama Bay entrance! And secondly, when we gave him 50 LE note and asked for 10 LE change back, he opened up empty pockets to say that he had no change and that we can find him back at Soho Square taxi stand and take our 10 LE back later or give it to him as "baqsheesh" i.e., tip because the money is small change for us. Needless to say after some argument, we preferred not to waste our time and left him with 50 LE and never found him again by the taxi stand.

- Whilst the sevice staff is always courteous and eager to help, the general culture of the country is easy going and can be frustrating if you want to just organise your day. Two examples from us: when we wanted to book to go quad biking, we asked on Friday for a booking to be made for Sunday. I asked about the confirmation many times on the booking and it was only late Saturday evening that we finally got a confirmation on our booking. Until then it was not clear if were going to get a booking or not. WHen we got to the reception at 2.15pm which was our pick up time for the quad biking, no one showed up to pick us up until 3pm! We were quite concerned that the booking hadnt gone through and we asked the concierge staff to find out and it took them nearly 30mins to figure out that the pick up was just running late - not everyone carries a mobile phone so it takes a lot longer to organise and find out about things essentially. This is not a reflection on the staff but more the cultural aspect of the place. SImilarly when we wanted to get a late checkout requested on our day of departure, we were told we wouldnt get a confirmation on that until the night before the checkout...again, the staff was very helpful but thats just the way that the information is made available to the,. So, essentially one has to be patient and not worry about delays...its just how it works :)

- Mosquitoes and small insects are common all year round due to the nature of the landscape and weather. Ask the hotel for a mosquito killer spray and keep it for the duration of your stay. Keep the doors closed in the evening and use the spray every morning beofre you leave the room and in the evening a while before you sleep and you will be fine. Also take some mosquito repellent creams - they do make a difference!

- Generally the shops do have a huge haggling capacity. We were quoted a price of 350 LE for one of those decorative souvenir plates and we ended up haggling the shopkeeper down to buying 2 plates for 120 LE! Seriously!

- Food quality in Soho Square for international cuisines is ok - we did not like the Indian food much and Thai was ok. However the Egyptian food was fantastic so stick to clean local food and its more enjoyable. The hotel restaurants offer better quality of international cuisine than the Soho Square. We heard that food in Naama Bay and old Market is very nice (authentic local cuisine + some chinese restaurants) but we didnt get the time to try it

Overall, the hotel is tops! The place rocks but just be prepared for a cultural drift and enjoy the relaxed environment in Soho Square and a very entertaining Naama Bay strip area if you like the hustle bustle and a real Egyptian way!

Room Tip: Our room 4031 was great as it had a patio area opening right in front of a pool area that we could w...

Our first visit to Egypt and a wonderful cosmopolitan experience.
Royal Savoy was a perfect choice for total relaxation and endless sunshine. Nothing is too much trouble for the delightful staff and we were thoroughly spoilt.
The gardens are beautiful and there is a large choice of restaurants, always with perfect service.
All areas - public and private were kept spotless and no problem with mosquitoes.
Our honeymoon suite had fantastic views over the gardens down to the sea with really comfortable furniture on the verandah and in the suite. Did have a bit of a problem with so many light switches!!
The room was serviced twice a day with clean towels, afternoon cakes, turndown and chocolates. Thanks Ahwad and friends.
Plenty of bottled water provided and free internet access.

The three pools had very comfortable sun beds and large umbrellas. All wonderfully serviced by Mohammed and Pakly, who catered for every need. Ice buckets refreshed, coffee, drinks whatever one desired . Pakly provides an astonishing service polishing one's sun/reading glasses - never come across that before!
Happy hour provided tasty canapes and delicious cocktails in the lounge/breakfast area. This perhaps could have been a little larger, but I think this is planned for the future.

An enormous choice of restaurants, both within the Savoy and Soho Square. So something for everyone, whatever their preference. Too many to try them all, we particularly enjoyed the Steak house, Sea Island and the Chinese was fun. The rest are on hold for the next visit!
Brilliant buggy transport to and from Soho for those who wished - very helpful after a few joint replacements!

I would like to reassure anyone reading this that we felt entirely safe - in fact much more so than in the Caribbean. It is very sad that bookings seem to have dropped as people are fearful of political conflict. Yet Sharm is a fantastic resort with something for everyone, security is excellent, absolutely no hooliganism, friendly and excellent service everywhere.

We shall definitely be back.

Thanks to Sammy and his great staff. x

I came to stay in The Royal Savoy in Sharm for my anniversary with my boyfriend and we had a wonderful time. The room we stayed in was lovely, a perfect size and very clean. The hotel in general had lots to do, our favourite place to eat was Rosmarino the italian restaurant in the hotel. I ordered the garlic mushrooms to start and the seafood risotto for main and the food was to die for!! We liked it so much we went back a second time during out stay!

The hotel is situated next to Soho Square which has so much to do, there is an English pub called The Queen Vic where you can watch sports (yes my boyfriend did watch the football!!) and lots of different restaurants including a Chinese, Thai, Indian. We loved it and will definitely look into going back soon!!

Having been lucky enough to travel to many beautiful destinations across the world, I feel I must write a few words to express the quality of this establishment and their staff.
This our second visit after our honeymoon in 2011 and I am pleased to say the hotel has only improved in what was already a quality destination.
For anyone wondering if the increased cost of staying in the royal savoy is worth it?? Be assured it is!!. The variety of amenities and attention to detail exceeds the other hotels I have previously booked in sharm.
From the second you are whisked through immigration until the moment you leave, you are made to feel like royalty. The language skills of all the staff are fantastic and you can tell the employees are proud of their job and even the gardeners and cleaners walk with broad smiles and are both courteous and attentive. Your glass is never empty and every style of food is catered for.
I have special dietary requirements and upon mentioning this to a manager named Islam bedir was carefully looked after in every restaurant. He personally visited each restaurant before I eat to inform other staff and even offered me special meals upon request. I would like to thank him for his assistance and help (a truly world class manager!!)
I could spend hours listing the reasons why to stay at the royal savoy but you would only appreciate the difference if you book here yourself.
The mark of a great hotel is not that you don't get small issues, but how they are dealt with, this hotel ticks all the boxes for a relaxing sun filled and enjoyable experience!!

As with any hotel not recently built I agree that some rooms are better than others. However they are currently updating most areas and doing this without disturbing anyone. My one recommendation is that the guests are allowed to use their rooms for longer on their departure day, or asked when it would be ideal for them to vacate. I say this because it was obvious the hotel was not full and would have been little effort to give it us for longer.

Many thanks to all at the royal savoy, with a special mention to Islam bedir mentioned above and to our friend George in the royal savoy lounge who tended to our every need on a regular basis. Our pool attendant mohamed who had our drinks ready every day and abdulah who seamlessly made our departure truly amazing. See you all again soon!!!!

P.s - for any trip advisor writers who feel they did not experience the same quality as I have mentioned above, please book a night in any European hotel that costs anything like the rates charged by the royal savoy. You will surely then find your complaints some what insignificant in comparison !!!!!

This was our 4th visit to the Royal and once again it did not disappoint. Due to a mix up in the booking the expected pick up at the airport was not there to greet us, but a quick call to the hotel and a driver was dispatched, and arrived within half an hour just as we had finished collecting our luggage, so no big issue. Yes the older rooms are looking a little tired, but they are kept immaculately clean by the happy friendly housekeeping team, and are more than comfortable with great views of either one of the many pools or the Red Sea.

Breakfast is served in a cosy private lounge with a large range of salads, cereals, breads, and cooked items. Enough to fill any hungry stomach. The highlight being the eggs cooked however you wanted them by the always smiling Farag. The other waiting staff are attentive and prompt in providing any drinks requested and clearing away any used items of cutlery.

There are in total 13 different restaurants to choose from, but some like the fish bar ( highly recommend you,pay it a visit) only open on certain nights. By far the two best places to eat are the Bombay and the Steak House in Soho Square, at which Royal Guests receive a 25% discount on food. As they do in all restaurants in Soho Square.

If you just want a peaceful relaxing holiday and plenty of sunshine, either on the beach or poolside, both of which have an abundance of sun beds with parasols, and being spoiled rotten by the staff (A special mention for Mohamed and Pakley) at the pools, both of which made sure our time at the pools were thoroughly enjoyable buy keeping us well fed and watered.

If you just want a relaxing holiday by the sea with guaranteed sun shine you can't go wrong in paying the Royal a visit.

We will definitely be returning again.

Room Tip: As I said in the review the older rooms are starting to show their age, so if you can splash the cas...

I went to the Royal Savoy in Sharm, Egypt, for a recent break in the sun. The staff at this hotel know how to look after guests and nothing is too much trouble for them. The private transfer from the airport enables you to go through passport control without queues and the service from everyone was excellent.

We would advise you to eat at the Indian and Egyptian restaurants and also the beach restaurant, avoid the buffet and Italian restaurants.

They also have a very good omlette and egg chef, who will cook eggs of any description for breakfast, this is worth trying as well.

A thoroughly excellent stay with extremely good staff.
