“This hotel is not for British people!”
Reviewed August 21, 2013

We stayed at Faraana Reef for 10 days in July.

The room was clean and tidy and we were impressed with the quality of the air con. The cleaner was very good & also very friendly.

We quickly realised that we were possibly one of 3 English couples in the hotel. The entertainment was in Italian and Russian as most of the people staying in this hotel were foreign. The hotel does not cater for British people at all. The staff that we spoke to were actually very surprised to see British people and told us that this is rare to see.

We were very disappointed with the food. We expected that there would not be much variation being all inclusive but this was a joke. Pizza everyday? Salad for breakfast dinner and tea? My partner & I were both very poorly (chronic diarrhoea) the hotel staff were very helpful and actually contacted the pharmacy and got them to deliver the medication to us. The grill restaurant is lovely but please be aware that you can only use this facility when allocated. Plastic mugs for tea and coffee, small plastic cups for beer, cocktails, cola. It was impossible to enjoy an alcoholic drink.

The beach was a let down as we had to walk down 100+ steps to get there. We also had to purchase shoes to go in the sea as it was so rough on our feet. We spent a lot of time at the pools. Both in need of a good clean. There are sunken plastic cups amongst chippings of paint from the bottom of the pool. The pool does not appear to close and there were people in and out at all hours - even during the night.

This hotel is perfect if you are looking to relax and not have a conversation with anyone! We resorted to booking excursions and visiting soho square which I would highly recommend! The hotel is very nice to look at and it is such a shame that it is possibly being run into the ground.

We are just back from 2 weeks here and all I can say is a bulldozer would be the best thing that can happen to this hotel but by looking at it there is already been one in there as the hotel is falling apart, from the human waste died birds and the peeling paint in the pools , the restaurants that were only open some of the time and the one that is all smashed up and a danger to anyone who go near it, the beach that is amazing but if you need the toilet or a shower you have to walk up 130 steps though a building sight to get to, the bedrooms that have doors that don't lock bathrooms that were so bad I would not even write about and our beds which I should say were 2 plaits pushed together, this hotel is in great need of a lots of money and time spent on it.

On a brighter note the staff try so hard to make your stay pleasant and they also no of the problems there and do try to help you , also the food was ok there was always something there that you could eat but it was not always very hot, but if you are going there go to breakfast that was fab ,

On our last day we were asked if we would like to keep our room as we had a late flight we were told that it was free but when we went to leave the hotel the manager tried to get us to pay £120 per room ( we had 3 rooms as there was 6 of us) and said that he never said that even when we got our cleaner to come and speak up for us he still would not have it we did not pay this and we told him we would phone for the police if he did not stop acting and shouting at us the way he was ( I think he wanted the money for him self but I have no proof of this ) .

If you are going here go expecting the worst and you won't be disappointed also take your walking shoes as everything is a long walk away .

We arrived on 30th July, and found out instantly that we were the only British family there - everywhere you looked, you'd see Russians and Italians staring you down with a grim face. Most of the staff were quite boring when it came to British people, however the "restaurant" beer server enjoyed having us around cause of our Indian ethnic background (only pro of this story). The cleaner was quite nosey, and had the audacity to beg for our travel iron simply cause it looked good (I mean, wtf?)

The food tasted like it was cooked in a bowl of sweat - only edible thing was pasta. However we had tried many other foods from their "restaurant" (more like school canteen... Actually that's an insult to school canteens). All 5 of us had acquired the Pharaohs Revenge (severe diarrhoea) from the food, it was absolutely sickening.

The location was in a world of turds, with an extremely deep ramp of about 70 meters that you had to travel down to get to the infested beach. Outside the hotel, we were greeted by the beautiful site of rubble and rubbish.

I recommend going to a hotel in Na'ama Bay, as that area is much more developed than sharm El Sheikh, with much more things to do. The taxi drivers said that Na'ama Bay was filled with more Brits, and recommended to stay in Marriott Resort - you'll be more at home there than at this [--] that I stayed at.

So let me start off with the fact that the general architecture of the hotel is brilliant. It's absolutely beautiful. It has been landscaped really well and it's sort of like a mini village which I liked because it's not like a usual hotel with rooms coming off the lobby/reception area. But that's where the good stuff ends.

I don't really know where to start off with the bad experience of the hotel so I'm going to just pretty much write what comes off from the top of my head. The staff differ from each other a lot. Some are very friendly and good at their job whilst others are miserable and don't really care. The cleanliness is also varying. The actual keeping of the rooms are good but little things like dirty plates and mugs/glasses ruin it. The hotel also gets ruined by the cheapness of certain things. The coffee mugs are plastic rather than porcelain and the lack in variety of drinks they offer is horrendous. They only have one type of beer to offer and "cocktails" are just basic mixers. They also serve drinks in plastic cups at the bar area rather than glasses. The food is also rubbish. They serve the same food everyday with the exception of varying specialties which weren't that good. The nearby Mosque will also annoy you a lot. I'm not racist nor a blaspheming person but the loudspeakers they use will wake you up at 2am and then they'll repeat this same thing another 4 times during the day. The hotel is also isolated. If you exit the hotel for a walk you essentially walk down a road that smells because they use the other side of the road as a dump and the houses look like slums. Basically, the hotel just doesn't feel well maintained and the surroundings just makes the nice hotel look and feel bad.

Then there is the actual holiday itself. Sharm El Shaik is not for people looking to do a lot. There isn't much to do. We tried to look for good excursions but found ourselves staying in the hotel swimming pool (which is brilliant) for the majority of the holiday. The public people are quite rude and in the markets they will try and trick you into buying things. Taxis are rubbish and feel cheap but charge you an arm and leg for journeys. Shopping is also very limited with a lack of choice of stalls and shops to haggle at. We essentially got bored after the third day on holiday.

I do not recommend Sharm El Shaik. If you have to go Egypt for holiday then go to Nama Bay!

Recently returned from 2 week stay at this resort. I will divide my review in to pros' and cons'.
Pros' - The staff are, as ever in Egypt, very friendly and efficient. The rooms are ok and cleaned daily; AC very good. We had a pool view room, so pleased we could just step out and splash away. The resort itself is very clen and well kept and there are shops on site for any bits and pieces you may require. However, I would recommend that you go out of the resort, turn left and a 5 minute walk will get you to the local 24/7 supermarket, which is much cheaper.
The pools are great and we tended to favour the wave pool, which was lovely. The beach and reef are a big plus. I would rate it as one of the best resort reefs in Sharm. Easy access and on par with the reef of Tiran island. The majority of tourists at the resort were Russian, Italian and Polish. The fact that there were very few British was fine by me and we met some very friendly people during are visit. In particular, a big hello to Jimmy from Belgium and Albert from Poland. The staff, as I have said are always a bog plus in Egypt, so a big thanks to all of them.
The cons' - The food could have been more varied, but this is often the case with all inclusive and with the heat I often found that I eat less during the day. We had to purchase drinking water from the resort, which was new to us in Egypt, which I felt was a disapointment. However, we tended to buy water in bulk at the local supermarket outside the resort which was a snip price wise.
On the whole, I would recommend this hotel if staying in Sharm and it was very good value for your money.

We have been back for a week but we had a brilliant time the food was very good plenty to choose from pasta, sea food rice dishes, chips, jacket spuds, wedges an mash two types meat or fish.
Plenty of sweet treats.
Room was nice and cleaned every day also clean towels.
The three pools were brilliant an the wave pool was ace.
Now the beach was lovely you could get a lift to the steps by golf cart (that was fun) the steps going down are fine but coming back up not so good if you've got bad lungs or legs no good we only did it once.
We would go back again best holiday weve had in Egypt no hassle in hotel or on the beach even had a manicure which was lovely in the hairdressers in hotel grounds.
We've been to Egypt about 12 times but this was the best by far we really had a restfully time

Room Tip: Just ask they are very helpfull

In this May we had a lovely 2 weeks-long holiday in Faraana Reef Resort.

The hotel is an average 4* egyptian hotel. There are different type of rooms, newer ond older ones. We had standard double room in the old sector (room Nr. 539), the bathroom really needs renewal, but in total there was no big problem with the room. The TV didn't work, but we didn't need it. Our first roomboy, the funny Max, made a good job.
The rooms in the new sector seemed more attractive with moderner furniture and flat tv, but we were not in that type of rooms.

Most of the rooms (around the bars and next to the disco) are noisy int the evenings, because there are music every evening in the bar from 10 to midnight, the disco starts at midnight. If this bothers you you really need to ask a quiet room at the reception.

The food is not so special, but everything is good and enough. In May the Panorama Restaurant (for snack lunch) on the beach did not work. You must go in to the main restaurant for lunch also, it was a little bit uncomfortable, because it is a little bit far from the beach.
There is a grill restaurant on the beach, but you must book table always one day before. In the grill restaurant the sortiment is almost the same, in the evening there are fresh grilled fish and meat. Small negative things in the bars : you get drinks in small plastic cups, and there is no cocktail menü, if you ask for cocktail, you get something sweet, but not really what you imagined. But the coffee is really good, with a lot milk foam :)

The best-best part of the hotel is the beach with the most beautiful coral reef we have ever seen in Sharm. You can snorkel all day long, there is always something new and interesting. You can see different type of corals and many fishes. There are 3 diving places in the bay (Temple and Ras Katy by Faraana Hotel, Ras um Sid by Iberotel Fanara) you can snorkel all places, nobody cares if you swim in front of the other hotels. The bay is never to windy, there are enough sun beds. The Temple is a famous diving place and therefore sometimes there are too many snorkel and diving ships by the hotel and the water is a little bit busy, you must be careful. You can pay for massage or aqua sports if you want, but the boys are not too violent.

The amination team is Italian, they speak also Russian, but if you understand only English, you won't be animated :)

In walking distance of the hotel you can find a big bazar, where you can buy everything what you want. There is also a big shopping mall ( Il Mercato ) with brand shops like Adidas,Quicksilver etc...

The summary is : you can have everything to the good holiday in this hotel, but if you prefer high-quality things, you should choose an other one.
