We drove from Dahab to St Catherines which takes about an hour and a half. This turned out to be the highlight of the trip as the journey through the desert mountains is spectacular. The monastery is located deep in the mountains close to a now well established town. Unfortunately visitors are only allowed access to a very small part of the monastery and an additional charge is payable to go into the museum where some icons are on display. Even in here though only small number of exhibits can be viewed. If you are planning to climb Mt Sinai, which we could not do as I had a broken foot, make sure you get good advice first. Climbing to watch sunrise is touted to be the most popular - but we heard from reliable sources that sunset is more spectacular. There are two main routes - 3,700 steps or a more winding route that can be done by camel (I contemplated doing this but was only at the last minute told that the last 700 steps had to be walked up and that these are quite steep with no hand rails).

the Guides are all very friendly , english speakers , the monastery is wonderfull & very old , inside the church itself No Camera are allowed but you can take picture around the premise.

there are two mountains there Moses mountain and Catherine Mountain , the common for tourist is Moses around +2300 Meters , but catherine is alot higher , going to the top of the mountain is not recomended for people afraid of heights :) , but the mose wonderfull sunrise you will see upthere .

The burning bush is still thriving and located at the back of the church at an angle. Church is interesting. Not much else. But there is only one place where God talked to Moses -- here, which makes it unique.

As this is really a different experience than many other similar things in Egypt such as Tombs, Temples, Pyramids etc. therefore if you are heading to Sinai then defiantly worth for a trip.
If you will visit the area, recommend also to be there very early in the morning and walk up the Sinai Mountain for watching the sunrise.
